BENJAMIN'S OFFICE

Benjamin sat in his office, the heavy desk buried under neat stacks of files and folders. A golden pen rested between his fingers as he signed off on another document.

His brow was furrowed in concentration, but more than that, in irritation. He hated paperwork, but it was necessary to keep his empire in order.

The silence of the room was broken by a knock on the door.

Benjamin’s head snapped up instantly as his jaw tightened. His eyes moved toward the door.

“I said,” his voice rang out. “that I was not to be disturbed.”

The door creaked open anyway, just a fraction at first, and one of his men stepped in cautiously, his broad shoulders somehow seeming smaller under Benjamin’s piercing stare.

“I—I apologize, sir,” the man stammered quickly, bowing his head. “Forgive me for interrupting, but it’s about the matter you instructed us to confirm. The one concerning Lisa.”

Benjamin's eyes narrowed into thin slits. He leaned back slowly in his chair, folding his arms acro

Scott stepped out of the car with Cara just behind him. The moment his shoes touched the ground, the air shifted. In less than a heartbeat, the quiet outside the company’s gates erupted into noise, movement, and flashing lights. The press, who had been waiting restlessly for his arrival, surged forward as though on cue. Cameras clicked and flashed so violently it was almost blinding, microphones were shoved toward his face from every direction, and voices rose in a chaotic chorus of questions all shouted at once.“Sir, sir! Are you really the new CEO of Harrington Dynamics?”“What’s your relationship with the Harringtons?”“Why did Gale Harrington give up his position so suddenly?”“Is it true the Harringtons were forced out?”“Were you the original owner of Harrington Dynamics before Gale took over?”“Is it true the company was stolen from you years ago?”“How exactly did you get the company back? Was it a legal settlement, or did you use other means?”“People are saying Gale signed

SCOTT'S GUEST HOUSE The morning sun spilled through the blinds. Scott stirred awake long before the alarm on his nightstand buzzed. He pushed himself up slowly, swinging his legs over the edge of the bed. For a long moment he sat there, elbows resting on his knees, staring at the floor. He rubbed a hand over his face and let out a sigh. There was no time to waste. Today was important. Today he'd be going to the company. He got dressed carefully, choosing a dark suit. His tie was knotted neatly and his shoes polished. After fastening his cufflinks, Scott reached for his phone. He scrolled briefly through his contacts until his finger landed on one name—Cara. The line rang only once before she picked up.“Boss,” Cara’s voice was brisk, alert, as though she had been waiting for the call.“Come by,” Scott said. “We’re going to the office together today.”“Yes, boss. On my way now.”True to her word, it wasn’t long before Scott’s phone buzzed again with a message. I’m outside.Scott sl

AUNT KATE'S HOUSE The aroma of onions sizzling in oil drifted through the kitchen, mingling with the faint scent of garlic and herbs Aunt Kate had set out on the counter. She stood at the stove, her apron tied firmly around her waist. Beside her stood Leah, perched on a small stool to reach the counter properly, her hair tied up in a messy bun and her hands covered in flour.Leah leaned over the cutting board with a knife that was perhaps just a little too big for her hands. “Aunt Kate, are you sure I should be doing this?” she asked, her tone cautious but her eyes sparkling with eagerness. Aunt Kate glanced over her shoulder, raising one brow. “Leah, if you want to learn, you have to practice. Cooking isn’t about watching—it’s about doing.” She gave the onions in the pan a quick stir before turning back to her niece. “Just keep your fingers curled in so you don’t chop them off. I’d rather not explain missing fingers to Scott whenever he visits next.”Leah giggled, though her knife

Gale stood frozen in place, his chest still heaving, his fists tightening around the back of the chair until the veins in his arms bulged. His jaw clenched and unclenched as though he was battling within himself—battling whether to admit the humiliating truth.Damian leaned back in his seat, his elbows still resting on his knees, his eyes fixed on Gale. He hadn’t said a word since Laura’s outburst. Finally, Gale exhaled sharply through his nose and let go of the chair. He straightened his back and turned toward them as his eyes blazed with a mixture of shame and anger.Gale began to pace the room again and his hands were restless at his sides. He finally stopped near the center of the room and ran a hand down his face before speaking.“It was at the abandoned warehouse,” he began, his tone clipped. “I called him there just as planned. I had the men waiting, ready to make sure Scott Grayson understood exactly who he was dealing with. It should have been simple. I was supposed to have

GALE'S HOUSE The crystal glass hit the wall with a sharp crack, shattering into a hundred glittering fragments that scattered across the floor. The sound echoed through the large living room, followed almost immediately by the low, guttural growl that tore from Gale’s throat. His chest rose and fell rapidly as he stood there, his hands clenched into fists at his sides, his shoulders trembling with fury he could no longer contain. He didn’t want to contain it. Why should he? He had been humiliated, stripped of what was his, robbed in a way that made every nerve in his body scream.“Damn him!” Gale bellowed suddenly, his voice booming so loudly. His hand shot out, and with a roar he slammed his fist against the wall. The impact was so strong that the wood groaned beneath the force. Pain shot up his arm. But Gale didn’t even look at his injured hand. His mind was consumed. His fury was the only thing he could feel.Across the room, Damian sat slouched in a chair, his elbows on his kne

VICTOR KANE'S HOUSE Victor Kane leaned back in his chair as he held a stack of photographs, bending them slightly between his fingers as he studied them again. He already knew every detail in those pictures, but he kept staring, as if they might give him something new if he looked long enough. The photos were of Scott Grayson. His home. His movements. His life, frozen in black and white and delivered into Victor’s waiting hands like pieces of a puzzle he had been craving for years.Victor’s lips parted slightly.“So… this is where you live, Scott,” he muttered, almost to himself. He held one of the pictures higher, squinting at it. “This neat little house, this quiet little sanctuary you’ve built for yourself, as if you could ever truly escape me. You thought you were free. You thought you had left it all behind. But here I am… and here you are.”He chuckled under his breath, though there was nothing humorous in the sound.Victor leaned forward, pressing one photograph flat onto the
