AUNT KATE'S HOUSE

The aroma of onions sizzling in oil drifted through the kitchen, mingling with the faint scent of garlic and herbs Aunt Kate had set out on the counter. She stood at the stove, her apron tied firmly around her waist.

Beside her stood Leah, perched on a small stool to reach the counter properly, her hair tied up in a messy bun and her hands covered in flour.

Leah leaned over the cutting board with a knife that was perhaps just a little too big for her hands. “Aunt Kate, are you sure I should be doing this?” she asked, her tone cautious but her eyes sparkling with eagerness.

Aunt Kate glanced over her shoulder, raising one brow. “Leah, if you want to learn, you have to practice. Cooking isn’t about watching—it’s about doing.” She gave the onions in the pan a quick stir before turning back to her niece. “Just keep your fingers curled in so you don’t chop them off. I’d rather not explain missing fingers to Scott whenever he visits next.”

Leah giggled, though her knife

ABC TECHNOLOGIES The long table of the conference room gleamed under the lights, reflecting the rows of staff seated with notepads and laptops in front of them. Every eye in the room was fixed on Scott, who stood at the head of the table. His presence alone commanded attention.“Good morning, everyone,” Scott began, his voice steady, deep, and confident. “I know most of you already know me by name, but I want to take this moment to properly introduce myself to you as your new CEO — Scott Grayson.”A ripple of whispers ran through the room. Some faces lit up with admiration, others showed nervous curiosity. Many of the employees had only ever heard about Scott in passing, and now here he was, speaking directly to them — a man whose reputation preceded him.Scott’s gaze swept across the room. “I want you all to understand something very clearly. We are at the threshold of a new chapter. This company has accomplished much in the past, but the world around us is moving quickly. Technol

Cara woke up before the sun had fully risen, her body moving almost mechanically as she prepared for the day. She slipped into her dark fitted jacket, tied her hair into a neat ponytail, and studied her reflection in the mirror. Scott had asked her to check on Lisa. On the surface, it seemed simple, but Cara knew Scott never wasted his words. If he wanted Lisa checked on, then there had to be more going on beneath the surface. And knowing Scott as she did, he must have sensed something before even voicing the command.By the time she left her apartment, the city was beginning to stir awake. Her first destination was Lisa’s workplace. Scott had said nothing about what to expect, only that she should go and see. —EVENTS BY L.RCara tightened her grip on the steering wheel as she parked in front of the glassy office building. She knew this was one place Lisa never toyed with. LISA'S HOUSE The heavy slam of the door rattled through the walls as Benjamin stormed into Lisa’s living room. His face was red with rage, his jaw tight, his chest rising and falling as though he had run a long distance. But it wasn’t exhaustion that shook him—it was fury boiling deep within him.Lisa, who had been curled up on the couch with a glass of water, jumped at the sound of the door. She turned, startled, and her eyes immediately caught the storm in Benjamin’s eyes. Her heart skipped a beat.“Benjamin?” she asked nervously, setting her glass down quickly. “What—what’s the matter with you?”He stopped only a few feet away from her, his glare fixed on her as if his eyes alone could burn her to ashes. He didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he paced the room, running a hand over his face, muttering under his breath words she couldn’t catch. Every movement radiated raw anger. Finally, he turned sharply, his oice booming. “You knew!”Lisa blinked rapidly, confused and uneasy. “K

BENJAMIN'S HOUSEThe clang of metal echoed through the private gym, bouncing off the walls. Benjamin’s arms flexed as he slammed the dumbbells back into their rack, his chest heaving, his forehead glistening with sweat. His jaw was tight, his expression one of rage. The men he had sent out had returned only minutes earlier, reporting the same pathetic excuse he had heard a dozen times already.“We couldn’t find him, boss.”Benjamin had nearly thrown a weight plate at them out of pure frustration. Instead, he chose to drown his fury in raw exercise, trying to burn the anger out of his system with sheer force. His muscles screamed, but the fire in his chest only grew.“That bastard,” he muttered between clenched teeth, his voice hoarse with anger. “Always one step ahead. Always slipping through my fingers.”He gripped the barbell, veins bulging in his arms as he lifted it above his chest and pushed up. His breaths came out sharp, more like growls than exhales. He was so focused on his

LISA'S HOUSE Lisa lay sprawled across the couch, one arm draped lazily over the armrest, the other holding the remote control as though it were the only thing keeping her occupied. The room was silent except for the sound of the television and the occasional sigh she let out.“This is so frustrating,” Lisa groaned loudly, throwing her head back against the couch as though the very act of breathing in that house was suffocating her.She flicked from one channel to another, her expression bored. Cooking shows, reruns of dramas she had already watched twice, a cartoon channel that didn’t interest her in the slightest—it was all the same. Nothing could hold her attention.“This is ridiculous,” she muttered, pressing another button. “There’s absolutely nothing worth watching these days. It’s all boring. Completely boring.”She tossed her head back against the couch cushions and groaned. “Day after day, it’s the same thing—nothing to do, nowhere to go. Benjamin locks me up here like I’m so

GALE'S HOUSE Laura stormed out of the spa with her heels clicking furiously against the tiles. The attendants called after her, confused, but she didn’t even glance back. Camilla rushed behind her, clutching her bag as she tried to keep up.“Laura, wait! What about the session? We—”Laura spun around suddenly, her eyes blazing. “Forget the session! Forget the spa! I can’t sit there pretending to relax while the entire world is talking about this. I need to go home. I need to talk to Gale. I need to—” Her words cut off in a sharp breath, her chest heaving. “I’ll talk to you later, Camilla. Just—later.”Camilla hesitated, clearly worried, but she nodded. “Alright. Call me when you’ve calmed down.”But Laura wasn’t listening anymore. She had already turned on her heel, striding toward her car.The drive home felt endless. Her fingers tightened around the steering wheel, her nails digging into her palms. Every time she blinked, she saw Scott’s face in her mind declaring to the world that
