"I'm declining the offer!" Rex replied casually.

He wasn't the one to give a damn about PR.

Boos and jeers filtered through the halls in roaring waves, immediately followed by murmurs of condescending words.

"His family has never grown a pair of balls over the last few decades, I really wasn't expecting anything else."

"Haha, that's actually the best option if you ask me, at least he knows his place and who he shouldn't mess with!"

Standing over at the other end of the counter, Emma's face flushed red with embarrassment.

Even though they were nothing but forced partners in a sense, anything attributed to your partner in this world was also attributed to you.

Shame boiled right through her lungs but there was nothing else that she could do other than look at him with her eyes rolling in spite.

The feeling of watching his mortal enemy go under the tons of insults hauled at him caused a lasting sweet sensation of happiness to rise right through Harold's guts.

However, that wasn't enough, he needed to crush Rex so much that he would not dare to raise his head again in that school and know his place in the sewers.

"I'm afraid but there is no running away from this!" Harold replied with mocked care as he pointed off to the rules that were carved into the walls.

Once a combat pass had been presented to someone, they were bound to accept it, it was part of their extra-curricular activities and would add to their overall graduating grade, a system that would further help their CVs while they searched for jobs.

Plus, it was a monetary system for the school too. Each combat win met more money and each loss came with a penalty and for poor students like Rex, that was a whole lot to worry about.

While for someone like Harold, it was nothing more than formalities.

The ring manager walked forward, his frown cutting the scar on his face even deeper.

"These are the rules duelists. Once an opponent knocks the other opponent down, they are deemed to have lost.

And you would fight by fusing your strength with that of your beast!" The manager went further to lay down the rules so that it was properly understood.

Winning earns you both a combat pass, excursion pass and a score point on your status," the manager took a pitiful look at the earthworm before further returning his military glance to Rex.

A wave of relief washed through Rex as he didn't need to put the full strength of his beast on full display and riase brows.

"Don't worry, I would allow you to use weapons so you don't feel so defenseless!" Harold announced with fake generosity that forced more cheers and applause from the already awed crowd.

"Isn't Harold so generous!" The crowd cried at each other.

Meanwhile, Lung rolled, huffed and snorted, wanting to take his real form.

"Not yet Lung. Except you want to be sliced into numerous parts for an experiment!" Rex muttered.

Though the manager pointed off at the section with everything needed ranging from weapons and anything else, Rex ignored all of them and walked onto the stage with Lung tagging along. This time, with a pace that was a little bit faster and eager.

Everyone was stunned, a smirk cut right through the face of Harold as he whispered.

"Seems the bastard has grown some balls, we will see just where all of that is going to lead to!"

The manager went off to the swinging bell, hitting it twice to notify that the duel had officially begun.

The instant the bell went off, the eagle instantly synced with Harold, giving his body a faint glow and an aura that caused most people to shrink back from the way, both terrified and awed.

Cheers erupted through the halls, enough to deafen the hearing of everyone.

Then, Rex peered over at Lung but he gave him a cold look instead, like it was a wound on his pride to be in this fight.

He tried to pick it up and merge with his beast. First he launched into the dark space of his mind where the beast consciousness lay and tried to merge with it but there was no outcome.

He tried another means, and another but it remained the same.

Laughter slid off through the hall in large ripples.

"Isn't this just pathetic, he can't even merge with his own beast!" Laughter rolled through the hall.

"If you ask me, I would say that this isn't a fight that is meant to take place in the first place as we already know who is going to be the winner."

Meanwhile, Emma almost spat out her guts in utter disgust.

"I can't believe I'm stuck with this loser," she muttered under her breath, her hands clenched into fists.

“The level of his incompetence leaves me baffled every passing moment.”

Harold's glow intensified as he cracked his knuckles, the eagle's power flowing through him like liquid fire. He looked like a god standing in that ring, radiating power that made the weaker students step back even further.

"Having trouble there, Trash?" Harold called out with a grin. "Don't worry, I'll wait. Wouldn't want anyone to say I didn't give you a fair chance before I crushed you into the dirt where you belong!"

Some students were already placing bets on how long Rex would last. Most gave him less than thirty seconds.

Money flinging through the halls, the bets on how long it was going to take for Rex to be stomped out of existence, not on whether or not he even had a chance.

Rex stood there, Lung crawling lazily at his feet, still unable to fuse.

His hands trembled slightly with pure rage

Then Lung giggled and he Rex almost blew up

"And you need to change back to your initial form, people are afraid of what they do not know and we would not want anyone experimenting on you. "What are you doing, Jim?! Stop! You should be attacking him, not yourself!" he screamed with a cracking voice. But the snake didn't even flinch at his voice. It didn't hear him. It just kept biting into its own flesh, tearing its own scales, chewing its own body apart like it was the most natural thing in the world.Fear slammed through Annoid's spine in cold waves. He turned toward Rex, rage and panic mixing in his voice."Tell that demon to stop whatever it did to my Jim right now!"He pointed a shaking finger. "You know my family! You know how powerful we are!
