Emma's eyes instantly lits up with a spiral of expectations and hope.

She looked at Rex's earth worm with spite and then her eyes strutted towards the majestic looks of the Royal eagle.

"You're sure you can help?" Emma's eyes glimmered as she waited for a response.

"We can discuss the details over dinner." He handed an invitation card over and she attempted to go with him but Rex quickly stopped her, a frown glazing over his face.

"Should I have to remind you that we have our first training session today?"

Those words caused Emma to scoff and roll her eyes at the same time.

"That's the point that you are not getting Mr. Trash, I would give anything just to be the farthest away from you that I possibly can! Besides, who wouldn't want to have fun with someone like Harold instead of wasting time with a cursed bloodline failure!"

Harold's face lit up with triumph. He slid close to Rex and whispered into his hearing with venom dripping from every word.

"Don't worry about the training, Rex. Emma and I will be exercising plenty tonight. I'll make sure she forgets you even exist."

With those words, they were out of the hall. Rex's stomach churned but there was nothing that he could do about it, not when he had made her choice.

“If only you could let me show her my true form, she would be melting.” Lung growled into Rex's mind.

“Not yet, not now!” Rex threw off the thoughts almost instantly.

He just stood in the silent and empty halls doing nothing. Each pair had their own training room and only their two fingerprints could unlock the doors, and with Emma away, they were stuck there.

"How about you join the challenge hall party?" A voice asked, too familiar like he had heard it somewhere before.

When Rex turned, his eyes interlocked with Gerald yet again and he squinted.

"Why are you always alone?" He was forced to ask.

"At least not the same reason as you, I just like being alone. But you should try the party out, it would be fun and you would not have to sulk all day.”

Finally, Rex nodded, at least it was going to be better than being there all alone especially with the fact that he had to train to become stronger.

*********

The party boomed with so much life, different ring fights lined up all around the place, beast against beast and people against people, sweaty bodies slamming against each other in the most brutal manners possible.

He was enjoying the fights and the brutish display of strength and techniques when his eyes met with someone that made his stomach twist into a knot.

It was Emma, laughing so passionately while Harold glided his hands around her waist, pulling her closer with each passing moment.

And as though she could feel his presence, she turned, her mood turned sour, almos ice cold.

She jerked up from her seat, the hall watching every bit of her steps as she marched toward Rex and growled angrily.

"You still had the guts to track me down here? What kind of stalker are you?"

“Does you family also come with a gene that leaves you immune to shame?”

Rex's hands curled tightly, the pain coursing through his skin, but after a few moments, he released, his expression melting into something almost unreadable.

"As I said earlier, I'd rather track a stray dog down than follow you anywhere. The world doesn't revolve around you, princess."

"Lie all you want Mr. Trash! Everyone knows that you are obsessed with me but you better get any stupid thoughts away from your pathetic mind!” She scoffed and others chimed in with multiple murmurs.

“Apart from training, I doubt your dirty attitude and that slimy worm would allow anything to go further between us anyway."

Her face burned red, she wanted to slap him, but the thoughts of the partnership rules instantly brought her hands to a halt.

Then, Harold stepped forward, his face radiating absolute superiority and contempt.

“Insulting a lady are you?”

“Even if I need a morality police, it would certainly be the grand Harold who is the propaganda of good and righteous living!”

Rex attempted to walk away, unable to stand another moment of their hypocrisy.

Then Harold stop him right in his path.

“You can't talk trash about a lady and walk away just like that!”

The crowd echoed in cognition. “Yes!”

“Yes Harold, he has to be punished!” They clamor under their breathes, sulking up to the most powerful person in the room to get into his good graces.

"Well, isn't it a grand coincidence. I was just thinking about who to pick for tonight's challenge and you showed up like a gift from the gods!" His voice dripped with mockery as he looked Rex up and down like he was examining garbage.

"How about we test our beasts' limits right here, right now, Trash? Though I hesitate to even call that string of slime crawling behind you a beast. It's more like bait that forgot to stay on the hook."

Laughter exploded through the halls in a deadly wave, shaking the building even to its foundations. Students pointed and whispered, their eyes gleaming with anticipation of watching the cursed bloodline get humiliated once again.

"What do you say, Rex? Unless you're too scared to let everyone see just how pathetic you really are. I promise I'll make it quick. Wouldn't want your worm to suffer too long before it returns to whatever dirt hole it crawled out of."

Emma crossed her arms, a cruel smile playing on her lips as she waited for Rex to back down like she expected him to.

The entire hall fell silent, waiting for his response.
