Desmond’s eyes widened as the words on the note slowly became clear under the light.

‘Don’t think you’re so smart. What we did today was intentional. The next time we try something like this, you’d never find your sister.’

His jaw tightened instantly. The paper crumpled slightly in his grip.

Asher, standing beside him, read it over his shoulder. He exhaled slowly and rubbed his forehead.

“You know,” Asher said quietly, “we found Vivian too easily. I’m sure they were just testing us.”

“Shit,” Desmond cursed under his breath.“Someone triggered something. Go check it out!” a voice echoed from inside as footsteps thundered toward the lab.Desmond quickly grabbed Zoe's hand. “Let’s go.”Vivian and Asher had already started moving ahead. They ran until they reached a less crowded area, stopping to catch their breath. Their chests rose and fell rapidly as they turned back toward the main field outside the lab.Sirens blared loudly, echoing through the entire building.“What was that noise?” someone shouted.“What the hell is going on?” another voice added.Vivian glanced at Desmond, panic flickering in her eyes. “Dessy, I'm scared.”“Don't be…” Desmond told her softly.“What the fuck is going on?” someone else muttered nearby. Then…“What’s all this ruckus about?”That voice.Desmond and Asher froze slightly, then exchanged a look. It was Elias’ voice.“Mr. Eli.” One of the men rushed toward him. “There was some sort of explosion. Some of the serums broke—”Elias’ expre

  • Chapter 58: Go for it

“You fool,” a deep voice muttered as a ceramic vase slammed hard against the man’s head.Desmond froze. His gaze slowly shifted toward the source and his heart nearly stopped. It was Elias. The man immediately let go of Vivian’s wrist, clutching his head as he winced in pain.Elias grabbed the man by his collar, his expression cold and unforgiving.“All you think about is women,” Elias said flatly. “You’re here to work, not fool around.”“Take him away.” He ordered. Two men stepped forward instantly, grabbing the struggling man.“I’m sorry, Mr. Eli! I’m sorry! Please…!” he screamed in pure panic as they dragged him away.“No! Please!”His voice faded as he was pulled down the hallway.Desmond’s eyes widened. Instinctively, he turned away, keeping his movements controlled. His heart pounded as he resisted the urge to rush to Vivian. If Elias recognized him, Vivian would be in danger. And so, he clenched his jaw and walked off.Elias’ gaze shifted, then landed on Vivian. She swallowed h

  • Chapter 57: You're a genius

“Shit,” Desmond muttered under his breath. If Elias saw him, he'd be done for. Elias had encountered him, and it wouldn’t take more than a glance for him to recognize him. If that happened, their plans would be crushed, and being in Black Finger’s hideout themselves made them extremely vulnerable. They’d be on the losing end before they even started. His legs kept moving, carrying him forward, heart pounding. He thought about taking another route, going somewhere else to avoid detection. He walked, slowly at first, then a bit faster, trying to stay calm.“Stop.”He froze as he heard Elias’ voice from behind him.“Oh…no,” Desmond breathed under his breath. He couldn’t risk turning his head, but if he didn’t stop walking, he’d draw attention. He slowed his steps, finally coming to a halt. His mind raced. He needed a plan…fast. From the corner of his eye, he spotted another man walking toward Elias, carrying a box. The man halted, and Elias barked, “That’s the wrong box. Go get the bla

  • Chapter 56: Rules

Desmond took a step forward, but Irius’ voice made him halt.“Wait.”They all turned back to him. His expression had gone completely serious.“There are a few rules.”Desmond’s gaze hardened slightly. He knew this wasn’t something to take lightly.Irius looked directly at him first.“This one is for you, Golden Onyx. The tonic you took suppresses your aura’s presence, but not its activity.” His eyes narrowed slightly. “The moment you step into that lab, do not use your ability. Not even a little.”Desmond’s jaw tightened.“If you do,” Irius continued, “the sensors will pick up the spike immediately. And when they do, alarms won’t just go off, but you'd be hunted.”Silence fell for a second.Desmond nodded slowly. He had already suspected something like that. Then Irius shifted his gaze to the others, especially Vivian and Zoe. “Second rule. Don’t overact. And don’t act too clean.”Vivian blinked.“This isn’t a normal workplace,” Irius said flatly. “People in there are rough, careless,

  • Chapter 55: All you have to do is act natural

“Is everyone ready?” Irius asked calmly.Vivian’s eyes widened the moment she saw him. Before anyone could say a word, she gasped and rushed forward.“Oh my gosh. Who is this?” she exclaimed, stopping right in front of him.Her eyes scanned his face in awe.His pale skin… his sharp features… his golden hair, it all looked unreal.“Why does he look like this?” she added, completely fascinated. “He looks so good.”Without thinking, she reached out and touched his face lightly.Asher watched the interaction, then glanced at Desmond. “He actually looks better than before.”Desmond nodded slowly. When he first met Irius, the boy was as skinny and pale as a zombie. But now, he looked much better. Less pale.“I think it's because your ability has improved.” Asher added.Desmond looked down at his hands. That was true.Vivian suddenly wrapped her arms around Irius. “Is he even human?” she asked dramatically. “He looks like he fell from the sky!”Irius had remained expressionless the entire ti

  • Chapter 54: We should head outside

Irius looked at him calmly. “Vivian and another girl would have to come with.”Desmond’s eyes widened sharply as he turned to him. “Why would my sister have to come with? What the hell are you even talking about?”Irius leaned back slightly on the couch, completely unfazed. “Still as emotional as ever, huh?” He shrugged. “Well, your sister and another girl coming would make things easier.”Asher slipped his hands into his pockets. “How?” he asked.Irius looked at both of them. “It’s a lab. Mostly men. And let’s be honest… some men are easy to distract.” His lips curved slightly. “They talk more when women are around. Makes it easier to get information.”Asher tilted his head slightly. “So basically… they’re distractions?”Irius nodded. “Exactly. They’ll be underestimated and overlooked.” His eyes darkened slightly. “That’s when we strike.”Desmond’s gaze hardened as he looked at him. “No. We were not doing this.” He turned to Asher. “You’re not seriously agreeing with this, are you?”
