“Explain to me why the hell you tried to come onto my mother?” Tobias voiced out, pointing his knife at Lucas’ head. Lucas glanced at Emilia and, on seeing her signature smile, he was sure that she was behind whatever lie was told to Tobias. Lucas turned his attention back to Tobias and breathed out as if calming his own temper. He was trying to be calm, but Tobias, on the other hand, was not so keen on doing the same.

Tobias’ hands slammed down on the large table, shaking the cutlery, plates and glasses on it and making Gregory, who was in the back, shudder in slight shock. Emilia looked on, her eyes gleaming in anticipation, while Lucas just stared at Tobias with a stoic look.

“Answer me you fool. What did you try to do with my mother?” Tobias asked Lucas again, abruptly getting up from his seat.

Lucas sighed but didn’t move his ground.

“I didn’t do anything sir.” He replied shortly, which unfortunately for him, set Tobias off even more.

“You stand by the fact that you didn’t try

Morning light crept through the blinds, casting a pale glow over Lucas' bedroom. He laid still, his eyes fixed on the ceiling as the weight of the day settled upon him. Today was the day. Today was the day for the hearing. The hearing that would determine the fate of the Grahams—and, by extension, his own fate also. With a quiet resolve, Lucas tossed aside the covers and swung his legs over the side of the bed. His movements were deliberate, a conscious effort to shake off the tension that had been building for days. With no one in the same room with him, Lucas walked to the adjourned bathroom, the soft hum of the heater and the gentle hiss of the shower providing a soothing background noise. As he stood under the warm water, he tried to clear his mind, pushing away the what-ifs and maybes. But they lingered, refusing to be washed away. What if the evidence wasn't enough? What if the judge ruled in favor of the Grahams? They were rich. They could still manipulate the hearing to their

  • Chapter 41: The Beginning of the End

Four days had passed since Lucas had found the body in the old room. Four days since the Grahams' arrest, and the news had spread like wildfire. The press was abuzz with speculation: rape, abuse, murder. What the hell were they arrested for? The question lingered on everyone's lips. No one had the full story. No one except for Lucas.Lucas knew he had to be cautious. The Grahams' influence was far-reaching, and he had exposed himself by gathering evidence. He knew they would have sent men searching for him with the sole aim of killing him after all he did. He even avoided his roommates all together, opting to stay in one of the many guest rooms in the mansion.Gregory had returned to his family as promised. Jack, Henry, and Sam were in the staff hall, probably eating or grabbing a drink, and possibly still deliberating on their own stories to ascertain what really happened on that day. That afternoon, as Lucas rested, his phone rang, shattering the silence and waking him up. Lucas gra

  • Chapter 40: Dead Remains and Hidden Secrets

Lucas continued to stare at the grand mansion and while he did, a long-suppressed thought resurfaced, one he had long struggled to keep hidden: his deep-seated hatred for his father. The man who had destroyed his childhood, ridiculed him and his mother and shattered their sense of home. Lucas wondered where that man was now and why, in the course of his undercover investigation, he’d found nothing about his father. He hadn’t even had the opportunity to see the man.But Lucas knew that there was no way Tobias and Emilia would have done all that on their own, and an evil mastermind such as his father had to be behind it or, at the very least, a part of it, and although he wanted to snoop around and find out about him while he worked for Tobias, Lucas was too busy carrying out the major task of ruining them to do it. Plus, he had thought that Mark Graham was a lesser threat to the monsters he was facing at the time, but now that they were being taken care of, he could focus on finding th

  • Chapter 39: The Arrest

"Tobias and Emilia Graham, you're under arrest," Axel announced firmly, his eyes trained on them before he looked around the room. As he did, his eyes caught Gregory's, and he was struck by a flicker of joy—something he had never seen in Gregory's eyes before."Finally," Lucas muttered, exhaling a deep sigh of relief as he glanced from Axel to Amy, who still stood in the middle of the room shivering and trying to cover her body. Lucas wondered what would have happened to Amy if Axel hadn't arrived when he did. Well, one thing was for sure. He would have met a pile of bodies when he walked through the door, Lucas’ included, if care was not taken. The thought sent a shiver down his spine.Tobias fumed, taking a step back from the approaching squad. "Who do you think you are?""No, that isn't right. Do you know who I am?" Tobias sneered at Axel. "This is an abuse of power. I don't care about your family or background; a word from me could get you fired." Emilia quivered, her eyes fixe

The days were uneventful as he had left all he had in Axel’s capable hands, but his mind simmered with anticipation.Axel's deadline loomed, and Lucas wondered if he still stood by his word. Would he follow through on his promise, or had he switched sides? Lucas thought. What the hell was taking so long?Wednesday, the final day, arrived. • Chapter 37: Close to the Finish Line

Sunday brought a rare reprieve for Lucas, a day free from Tobias's and Emilia's oppressive presence. The events of the previous day still lingered, making Lucas not want to see Tobias or Emilia at all, especially not after what they put him through with that fight. His thoughts turned to Amy, the young girl confined to the cold, dark basement. Her plight strengthened his resolve to bring down the Grahams, and he began contemplating the next phase of his plan. Lucas spent the morning alone in his room, his roommates absent due to their duties. Luckily for him, neither of them had noticed the wad of money on the ground. If not, he would have had a lot of explaining to do. Most of them would be lies.As Lucas contemplated the next thing to do, Axel's long-awaited response finally arrived, ending the suspense that had gripped Lucas since he sent the video. Despite attributing the delay to Axel's busy schedule, Lucas couldn't help but wonder if he had misjudged Axel's allegiance. Was Axel
