Chapter 1

"Desmond! Where's my shirt!" scolded Wrenley, Desmond's wife.

"Just a minute, darling! I'm in the kitchen preparing breakfast!" said Desmond, who was in the kitchen.

Wrenley shouted again, "Hurry up, Desmond! I'll be late!"

Desmond rushed to his room first, preparing his wife's clothes. The man was deftly preparing his wife's clothes for work while Wrenley was still in the bathroom.

After finishing preparing his wife's clothes, he returned to the kitchen. Desmond was surprised when the eggs he cooked burnt because he forgot to switch off the stove earlier when he left.

"That's bad; I'll get mad at Mum," Desmond muttered softly.

"What's the matter?!" scolded his father-in-law behind Desmond.

Desmond swallowed; he turned his head slowly, and sure enough, his mother-in-law was already behind him. He smiled bitterly when he saw his mother-in-law.

Her mother-in-law leaned over and got angry when she saw that the eggs Desmond had cooked were burnt.

"Already living off the land, you're wasting food instead of being frugal! Respect your wife for earning a living! You useless man!" snapped his mother-in-law.

"Sorry, Mum," Desmond replied, bowing his head.

"Sorry, sorry, how can money be exchanged for an apology!" snapped her mother-in-law again.

The middle-aged woman walked away after berating Desmond. While Desmond could only clench his fists, if he had wealth, his life would not be humiliated like that.

Desmond Emmanuel is a poor man living alone, with no relatives or family to recognise him.

From a young age, Desmond lived in an orphanage; he didn't know who his parents were because there were no objects or identification when his mother found him.

Desmond was able to marry Wrenley because they were both celebrating the town's anniversary banquet at that time.

At that time, Desmond and Wrenley, who were both drunk, accidentally slept together until finally, Desmond boldly said he would marry Wrenley, who, at that time, took away her innocence.

Wrenley accepted Desmond reluctantly. But after the marriage, Wrenley doesn't seem to think of Desmond; he just considers him a pet dog who will do all his housework.

Wrenley Batford is the son of Vicky Jonson and Elizabeth Batford. Wrenley uses his mother's surname because Vicky is a man whose fate is almost the same as Desmond's, except that Desmond's father-in-law still has a family even though he is from the lower class. That's why Wrenley uses his mother's surname which is indeed in the middle class.

Desmond prepares the meal he made at the table; of course, the burnt eggs will be eaten by himself, not served to the Wrenley family.

"Desmond, heat the car!" Wrenley ordered sternly.

"Okay, baby," she replied softly as she went to warm up the car.

Elizabeth spoke up after Desmond left, "Wrenley, just divorce her; you have Martin, after all!"

Wrenley sighed, "What the hell? I was going to divorce her right away, but I couldn't; now you're telling me to divorce her."

"That was then; now you have Martin; he's more handsome and rich than that pig!" Elizabeth said disgustedly.

"You'll see, Mum, if Martin is serious about marrying me, I'll divorce him straight away," Wrenley replied casually.

Vicky, who overheard the conversation between his son and wife, didn't say a word, preferring to pretend he didn't hear rather than become the target of his wife's anger.

"Good, I'll also persuade Martin to hurry up and marry you; I'm sick of seeing that pig's face!" exclaimed Elizabeth excitedly.

The three of them continued eating while Desmond, who had finished warming up the car, returned to the kitchen and ate there.

Desmond has been silent despite being treated like that because he has no other choice; for him to be able to have shelter is enough for him.

After marrying him, she never even touched Wrenley again, as she always slept on the floor at Wrenley's command.

Desmond, who had finished eating, waited for the Wrenleys to finish eating to clear up the place.

"Desmond!" shouted Wrenley loudly, with that also signalling that they had finished eating.

Desmond rushed over to Wrenley, he cleared away the tableware.

Wrenley put the shopping money on the table, "Cook a lot tonight; I'll have guests!"

After saying that, Wrenley immediately got up from his seat, said goodbye to his parents and left the dining table without saying a word to Desmond.

"Listen, Wrenley, cook a lot tonight! A special guest is coming, don't be embarrassed!" snapped Elizabeth, who quickly left, as did Vicky, who followed his wife.

Desmond sighed, "Lord, how long will you give me this trial?"

Desmond is tired; it's just that he has nowhere to go if he leaves the house, even to work; he doesn't have any skills. While in the city of Aradonia, it takes at least a high school diploma to work, for just illegal parking or whatever, in the city of Aradonia, there is already a person in charge, at least he has to spend a few dollars first if he wants to work in that place.

After cleaning the cutlery, Desmond went to the market on foot at his regular shop as usual.

"What are you shopping for this time, Desmond?" asked the vegetable vendor who knew Desmond.

"As usual, but a little more this time," Desmond replied kindly.

"Is there going to be a party at your wife's house, Desmond?" the merchant asked again.

"Sort of," he replied briefly.

Desmond didn't want to linger there because if someone who always made fun of him at the market came, he was afraid that he would destroy the things he used to buy.

The merchant knew that, too, so he served Desmond quickly.

"Thank you," Desmond hurriedly left the market.

Unfortunately, just as he was about to leave, someone grabbed his shoulder and stopped him.

"Where are you going, Desmond Emmanuel? Batford family dog?" said the person making fun of Desmond.

Desmond sighed; he was sure he wouldn't be able to get away from Tom, the market thug who always bothered him.

Desmond put down his groceries and moved slightly away to let Tom join him.

Sure enough, Tom followed Desmond, "Wow, it seems like the Batford family dog has started to get brave?"

"Beat it, boss!" exclaimed one of Tom's subordinates.

Desmond clenched his fists tightly; he glared at Tom and his subordinates, who continued to make fun of him.

Desmond shouted, lunging at Tom; rather than surrendering, Desmond preferred to fight; after all, he had been patient enough to face Tom, who always made fun of him.
