Hidden Schemes And Open Deliberations
Selene and Trevor were alone in the office after Professor Ludwig’s departure. Still shell-shocked from how everything had turned out, Selene was unable to react in time to the professor’s final declaration. Instead, her eyes remained glued on Trevor, completely dumbfounded that he had the balls to reject Professor Ludwig’s arrangement. At the moment, Selene didn’t know how to react toward Trevor. Deep down, something about the entire situation felt off to her—not in the way that she suspected Trevor is having some nefarious ploy —instead it was simply out of her inability to understand what benefit Trevor would gain from antagonizing professor Ludwig. Trevor’s Rejection
Trevor’s sudden interruption caught not only Selene off guard but also Professor Ludwig who has just been speaking. Not too long ago—barely even a few seconds past—Professor Ludwig had just dismissed Selene from her duties as head of the research on Cale’s awakening and handed her position over to her assistant, Trevor effectively promoting him. Yet instead of being happy about this, Trevor suddenly pleaded for the professor to reconsider his decision. “What is the meaning of this?” Professor Ludwig asked. Trevor replied, “I am sorry speaking out of turn professor but I implore you to reconsider you decision and reinstate junior professor Selene back as the head of the project.” The room was silent for a moment as nobody spoke while Professor Ludwig scrutinized Trevor to see if he was serious. But he was unable to determine anything through Trevor’s blank face so he simply asked again. “Why are you doing this? Do you pity your previous superior or are you just trying to be modest
Selene’s Punishment
The newcomer whose arrival gave Selene so much anxiety was old man Ludwig, a minister of the hive who was in charge of researching and discovering what made Cale special. He was also the one who had assigned the task of overseeing the research to Selene. Naturally, old man Ludwig was being kept abreast on the progress of the task so when he learned about the accident that had occurred he had to make an appearance personally to understand what was going on personally. Old man Ludwig—or professor as he was called within his circle—would have arrived much sooner. But ever since the other ministers of the hive had learned about Cale, he had been held up by them for some time as they tried to press him for more information while also trying to involve themselves in the research. Selene’s Mess
The events that unfolded following Cale’s accident were a blur to Selene. Everything happened so quickly—from Cale’s body nearly being cooked to him being wheeled out of the cell after barely retaining a single breath of life—it was so quick that throughout all this, Selene was like a zombie working on autopilot, completely numb to all this. And so she continued in that state for the rest of the day. After Cale was wheeled to the infirmary, Selene didn’t know how she made it back to her office. When people came to report about Cale’s situation, Selene listened to them without hearing a single word they said. When Trevor came to check on Selene, he stopped before entering her office. In the world on the other side of Cale’s rifts, his entire consciousness hid, cut off from the rest of his body. As a mental projection of his physical state within the other world, Cale still maintained a connection to his physical body but he could not feel what was happening to him while he was in here. There was only a faint sense of understanding of his body’s current state and if information one what was happening to his body was sent to him without any sensations to accompany it. Like if somebody touched Cale’s body while his mind was in the other world, Cale would sense that someone was touchin him but he wouldn’t be able to feel their hands on his body, or if somebody was whispering in his ear, Cale would definitely know somebody was standing very close to him but he wouldn’t be able to hear a word that was being said to him. “Damn it!” Selene in a fit of rage threw a tablet across the room with considerable force, causing it to shatter. Her eyes blazing with unconcealed annoyance demanded of no one in particular. “How long has he been in that bloody state?
