Selene watched as Cale’s eyes glazed over into unconsciousness from her kick which was wholly satisfying to her. Thinking of how close she had come to falling into Cale’s hands, Selene thanked her lucky stars that she was unharmed. And thinking of the reason why Cale eventually failed to capture her, Selene quickly retrieved a small device from her pocket.

It was a small metal ovoid device shaped like an egg with intricate lines and patterns engraved all over it. Through these lines, a complex array of gears could be seen running within from which a dim blueish light twinkled on and off.

This egg shaped device was a micro barrier generator designed for personal use by soldiers in the battlefield.

The barrier worked by emitting a certain frequency that caused air molecules around a specific area to vibrate. This vibration was mostly undetected as it resonated with the surroundings, taking factors like heat, humidity, atmospheric pressure and other environmental factors into consi

  • Cale’s Lifeline

Cale’s excitement from seeing Selene could barely be contained. He was swooning with elation at what her presence possibly implied for him. But not daring to jump to conclusions, Cale wanted to confirm he wasn’t seeing things.Ignoring Selene’s question, Cale turned his head the other way and came face to face with a pair of sturdy boots—the same ones the guards wore that Cale had become very familiar with.Trailing upwards with his eyes, Cale saw a pair of strong legs clad inside tight-fitting pants that exposed the slim but well-built proportions of their owner’s thighs and torso. Finally, moving past the minimal bosom and clearly defined pecs, Cale saw the face of the guard from whose back he had fallen off.Cale didn’t recognize the face immediately, and only after taking a moment did it come back to him who this person was. It was the female guard who had sacrificed herself to allow her comrades to escape Cale’s grasp before falling into his hands in the end. This had happened be

  • Waking To Despair Or Salvation

The soft sound of footsteps and the occasional crackle of electricity sparking in the distance greeted Cale as he regained consciousness, followed by a wave of pain and nausea overwhelming him, giving him the urge to throw up.Heaving dryly and gasping for air, Cale didn’t vomit in the end, and seconds later he began to feel better. The nausea eased, and the pain all over his body subsided considerably—enough that he could finally take stock of his environment. When he came to his senses, that was when Cale realized the situation he was in. He was riding on somebody’s back, being carried down an empty corridor toward an unknown location. The first thing Cale thought of when he realized this was that he had been captured again. Recalling the last scene he saw before losing consciousness, Cale remembered the heavy boots worn by the guards. Looking down at the uniform of the person carrying him, his suspicions seemed confirmed.Responding to his first instinct, Cale immediately tried to

  • Victims Of The Quakes

Trevor was in his room when the quakes occurred and, like everyone else, he had rushed out in panic to see what was going on. For Trevor, it was more confusion than panic, but regardless, a few minutes later, he found himself being huddled at the top of the laboratory by the guards while they went off to deal with the cause of the commotion. While waiting, Trevor observed his surroundings closely. He was at an emergency muster point located at the very top of the second level of the laboratory along with several other staff, including research and non-research personnel.Initially, when everything started, Trevor had tried wandering around to figure out what had happened. Along the way, he had witnessed the devastation that resulted from the shakes as walls cracked, ceilings collapsed, and the floor opened up below their feet, sometimes swallowing up unsuspecting victims into the dark underbelly of the levels below this one. When everything finally subsided, all that was left was ruin

  • Hostile Takeover 1

None of the ministers were under any illusion that their task was one without risks. As great as the benefits that came from being in their current positions were, that was how severe the risks were too, and none of them wanted to lose everything after all they had achieved so far. The only difference between Bolovia and the others was that she was more aggressive and forthright in her approach to securing every advantage for herself. But in the case of the anomalous source, without the consent of old Ludwig, it was impossible to wrest any control over the project from him, as he was given full authority over it by the administrators themselves. That was why Bolovia had been gathering support from the rest of the ministers to exert pressure on Ludwig and make him comply. But with the sudden event that had just happened and the risk of exposure now prevalent, an opportunity to force old Ludwig to comply had presented itself. Bolovia was fully ready to exploit the situation to h

  • Hostile Takeover

Faced with Credence’s reprimand, the meeting became much more civil, with minister Cole and minister Bolovia no longer going at each other’s necks. There was silence in the meeting room for a while until minister Eisendale finally spoke up, asking, “What else do we know about the earthquake—specifically regarding the anomalous source project?” This question was directed at old Ludwig, but it was minister Bolovia who answered. “The project already risks complete exposure. As of a few minutes ago, I received information that the fifth division of the security bureau, which is the closest in the area, had already arrived on site and begun investigating the cause of the earthquake. It is only a matter of time before they discover the black site facility buried deep in the hill.” Hearing this news, all the ministers were immediately alarmed. “That fast? Then aren’t we wasting time here by doing nothing?” “Exactly! The anomalous source project can never be known to the public an

  • Urgent Gathering At The Hive 1

Old Ludwig had no choice but to explain what was going on. He told them about the earthquake and the black site facility located inside the hill, where the testing and experimentation on Cale—whom they all knew as the anomalous source—was being conducted.Hearing this news, all the ministers except Bolovia were immediately surprised and quickly came to a realization.“So that’s where you were keeping the anomalous source and conducting experiments on it. Who would’ve thought it was actually so close to home? I thought you’d have smuggled him into the wilds just to prevent any of us from getting our hands on him.”Minister Eisendale was the one who spoke, only for Minister Cole to follow up sarcastically.“Heh, in the end you couldn’t protect your secret and keep things under control, and now you’re forced to come and share it with us. So much for hoarding everything to yourself!”After saying this, Minister Cole suddenly shifted gears and addressed Minister Bolovia, asking, “But you d
