Everyone else in the room gasped. The collective sound was so loud that it could be heard in the hallway.
Ronald's pen fell to the floor, and Stephanie's coffee cup rattled against its saucer. Abigail looked shocked but not too surprised. Stephanie noticed this as she angrily stared at her stepdaughter. Something about Abigail's face suggested she'd known this was coming for a long time but said nothing. "You all heard me correctly," Calvin said with a bolder and more confident tone. "I'm leaving this company today. I'm starting my own label." He faced Nathan once again. "I'm going to show you how to run a music business the right way. It will be just me, my agent, and my artists. There will be no army of uninspired writers or corporate handlers destroying ambition and creativity." He dropped the grape-flavored candy on the table for Nathan before quickly picking up his briefcase, ready to leave. "I'll teach you what real leadership looks like, and it will be much better than everything you've managed to accomplish in twenty years. So watch and learn, Mr. Harrington," he said before briefly addressing everyone in the room. "Good day, everyone." And with that said, Calvin walked toward the door. Hidden in the briefcase were unsigned contracts with three of Nathan's biggest stars printed on them. The names were Jason McCallister, Gabriella Santos, and Marcus Thorne. These were the same artists that Nathan had dismissed as problems, and soon they would be Calvin's secret weapons against him. Nathan lost it at this point. Everyone in the room could see the veins bulging from his forehead like twisted ropes. "Now listen to me, you pathetic excuse for a man! If you walk out that door, I will see to it that you never succeed in anything. I swear to God, I will destroy everything that gives meaning to your worthless existence!" Calvin looked over his shoulder one last time. His gray eyes were calm, showing no expression. But to Nathan, it showed that Calvin didn't see him as a threat. He was nothing more than a ranting old man who couldn't do anything, and it pissed him off even more. Then, without saying anything, the young man left the room and headed toward the elevator. Abigail stood up, her decision already made. "And where do you think you're going?" asked Nathan. For the first time in years, Abigail looked at her father. All the usual fear was gone, and she looked like a completely different person. "I'm going with my husband." Just like Calvin, Abigail wasn't making a blind decision. In her purse was a flash drive containing all the financial documents she and her husband had been compiling for months. She too had made arrangements with those she trusted; one of her friends being a reporter at Music Weekly ready to publish a Pulitzer contender based on all the information she and her husband had compiled. Nathan nodded slowly. "Of course you're leaving with your husband. But when everything falls apart and you come crawling back here begging for my forgiveness, don't say I never warned you. You've made too many stupid decisions in your life. Please don't let this be the one that makes me give up on you." Abigail surprised everyone by speaking up without a trace of uncertainty. "Goodbye, father." As the elevator door closed behind them, Calvin looked at his wife, a bit surprised she was there with him. "You came along," he said. "What did you expect?" she asked, looking at him with a slight hint of anger for doubting her loyalty. Calvin smiled as he pulled out another lollipop and handed it to her; this one vanilla-flavored, her all-time favorite. "This isn't going to be easy, you know. You've just made him your enemy, and he will do whatever it takes to destroy us." Abigail unwrapped the candy and put it in her mouth. "I know." They both took a deep breath as the elevator doors slid open. The couple had just become enemies of the most powerful music empire in America. But Nathan Harrington's empire was built on more than just recording contracts and radio deals. Hundreds of dead bodies lay buried beneath the foundation of his success, and lots of blood had been spilled to secure his throne. And now, Calvin would learn exactly what happened to those who dared to challenge the king.

Chapter 13: The Tessa Scott Gambit.
Rebecca came downstairs with another suitcase. Her face looked pale, and her faded makeup gave it away that she had been crying."Change of plans. You know Tessa Scott, right?""Yes. We were very close, you know, before her husband's cheating scandal and all.""Excellent. You will arrange a meeting between her and Frank."Rebecca frowned."Sir, Tessa has been in hiding for months. She wouldn't want to be anywhere close to anyone from the industry after what happened.""She will if you ask nicely. Tell her that my son can restore her music career. He has connections that can clear any name and make her famous again."Frank got up from the couch, not liking where this was going."I don't need a blind date. I'm not a child."Nathan looked back at his son."No, no, no. This isn't about romance; you are going to recruit her for the label. Tessa Scott has millions of fans who believe she was treated unfairly. If we sign her to the new label, it shows that we protect our artists better than

Frank got up from his seat, knowing what his father was doing."Leave her alone, Dad.""You sit down and shut up, Frank."Nathan said without taking his eyes off the lady."Now here is what you're going to do, young lady. Tonight, you are going to disappear from my son's life, and it will be for good. If I see you anywhere close to him again, I will tell your husband everything."Rebecca frowned."You're bluffing.""Don't test me, young lady. We both know what happened to those who double-crossed him, even the closest members of his family weren't free; not even his own mother. So don't think you are going to be the exception just because you are his wife."Rebecca took a deep breath, nodding as she replied."I understand."Nathan nodded back as he slowly leaned away."Very good. Now pack faster, we don't have all night."The young lady ran upstairs as Nathan turned back to face his son. Frank glared back at him with nothing but hatred in his eyes, but Nathan walked over to the other
Chapter 10: Father's Ultimatum.
Frank took a deep breath, staring at the business card like it was poison he couldn't resist."What's the catch?"Nathan leaned back into the couch, joining him to stare at the wide 4K TV on the wall."No catch, just don't dump another scandal on my doorstep. No more affairs with the wives of powerful men, no more public meltdowns, and no more wild parties on social media."Nathan said, but this time, his voice quickly turned quiet and deadly."If you embarrass me or my company again, I will release everything. I will tell the world about every crime you committed, every enemy you made, and every dark secret that still keeps you alive in this city."Now Frank wasn't buying it anymore."You keep giving threats, but we both know that you can't destroy your own son.""Try me."Nathan said, getting up and standing in front of him."The Neo-Mafia wants your head for ruining their biggest arms deal. On the other hand, Senator Morrison still secretly has that fifty thousand dollar bounty on
Chapter 9: The Declaration of War.
When Calvin hung up, he was sitting in his friend Martin's living room, staring at his laptop screen. A countdown timer showed two minutes until he went live on MeTube, and even though he had only announced it an hour ago, over 5,000 people were already waiting in the chat room with the numbers still climbing.Hearing Calvin throughout the call, Martin put down his phone and shook his head."With the way you keep secrets from your wife, I'm surprised she hasn't divorced you yet."Calvin seemed to be more focused on the live feed, refusing to look away from the screen before adjusting the camera angles and lighting. The live video had to be perfect, but he heard what Martin said."That's exactly why I'm doing this; that's why I'm willing to destroy Nathan Harrington. Abigail trusts me to protect her and everything we've built together, and I won't disappoint her."Martin nodded slowly."Yeah, love sure makes us do crazy things. But this is way out of your league, Calvin. What you are a
Chapter 8: The Seed of War.
"You are just like all the other vultures," he said with obvious bitterness."You see someone like me and think you've found easy money. I spent 18 months in jail because of people like you. I suffered there because I trusted the wrong suit with the wrong contract. I was lured in by someone like you and lost everything because of it, yet somehow that isn't enough for all of you?"Even though Abigail's heart was pounding, she stayed perfectly still."Freya Music Group wants to give you complete creative control. We will only step in when you ask us to. We don't interfere with your work or make demands on how to make your music."Jason laughed again, this time hollow and broken."Of course, and after I sign your stupid contract, your crafty lawyers will find some tiny clause in the documents that signs away my soul. You are beautiful, I'll give you that, but you're a terrible liar."Abigail stood and placed her business card on the table next to the nearest overflowing ashtray. Jason's
Chapter 7: The Broken Star.
About an hour later, Abigail was sitting in her car outside Jason McCallister's home. How her husband knew he lived here was beyond her, and she tried her best to calm down. The neighborhood looked tired and forgotten, with rows of small houses featuring dead lawns and broken streetlights. It was hard to believe that a young music icon who sold out stadiums just a few years ago was now living here. This was crazy, but she trusted Calvin. She looked at the rearview mirror to make sure her hair was perfect.Taking a deep breath, she walked to the front door. The porch light was broken and she had to stand alone in the dark for a while, tracing her hands on the outside wall to find the doorbell. She pressed it once and there was no response, then she pressed it over and over until she saw a curtain move upstairs. Someone had noticed her, and she stood still, trying her best to look harmless.Given the circumstances, she wouldn't be surprised if he was too scared to answer. This was like
