chapter 2: A Man Without Legacy
last update2026-02-03 07:51:27

Alator was running through the dirty street. He continuously bumped into people as thugs chased after him.

Seeing one almost catching up, Alator picked up a garbage container at the corner and tossed it at him. The garbage bin struck the man on the face, spilling all over him and obstructing his view. The man bumped into a stone, lost his footing, and crashed into a metal rod bulging out from the corner of the building by the side. The rod impaled him through the chest, emerging from his back.

"Tsk...!" One of them clicked his tongue, seeing his colleague die miserably.

"Get that bastard!!" The broad-shouldered man, who seemed to be their leader, shouted from behind. They quickened their pace as they chased after the young man ferociously.

One dived forward and grabbed Alator on the leg, and both of them crashed to the ground. Alator grabbed a flower pot by the side and smashed it into the face of the man holding his leg on the ground.

"Crash!"

The flower pot exploded, with dirt filling the man's eyes and his face turned bloody.

Seeing the other approaching, Alator quickly got up. Just as he took a step forward, a broadsword sliced through the air, aiming straight at his neck. He jerked back, his back foot hitting the concrete pavement, and he crashed on a butcher's table filled with meats.

The blade of the sword flew over his face, cutting a few strings of his hair and kicking off his flat cap from his head.

The butcher man screamed in horror and quickly ran away from his shop.

Alator raised his foot and kicked the man on the chest, sending him tumbling back. Using the momentum, he rolled off the table through the meats. Right then, a heavy sword slammed into the table he was lying on a second ago. The table split in half, revealing Alator underneath.

The man hacked his sword down on him again. Alator looked below and noticed the man standing on a rope; he quickly grabbed the rope and pulled it. The man lost his balance, the sword flew off from his grip, and he fell to the ground.

Before the man could get up, his sword came crashing down and pierced through his forehead.

Just as Alator got up, a devastating punch smashed into his face.

"Bang!"

He crashed onto the ground and rolled a few meters away before jamming into a table nearby and coming to a stop.

The fat thug pounced on him and smashed his fist into his face again.

"You piece of sh*t!"

"Bang!"

Alator's vision turned white for a second as the punch ripped off the skin at the side of his face.

The man grabbed him by the neck, almost choking him to death. Alator struggled under his grip but couldn't escape. The man was fat, and he had brought all his weight upon him.

Alator was already at the verge of death. The man was literally crushing his neck, and Alator was beginning to hear the sound of cracking bone under the pressure.

Alator scrambled his hand across the ground, his fingers digging into the dirt, looking for anything that could save him.

He ended up grabbing an animal bone lying on the floor. With the last strength left in him, he forcefully jammed the bone into the man's left eye.

"Shank!"

"Ahhhhhhh!!!"

The man screamed like a pig being slaughtered, and his features were immediately drenched in blood. Alator kicked him aside and jumped back to his feet, holding his neck as his face twisted in pain. He grabbed an iron bar nearby and mercilessly smashed it into the man's head.

"Bang!"

His head busted apart; the man collapsed lifelessly on the ground, and blood rushed out like a fountain, forming a pond on the floor.

Alator quickly jumped over a table, changed his direction, and branched into a narrow alley at the right and disappeared into the crowd.

At the same moment, the others arrived at the spot. They saw their colleague brutally butchered. But Alator was nowhere to be found.

"Don't let me catch you you little brat!" Their leader muttered with a dark look on his face.

-------------

The sun had gone down the horizon, and the day had finally turned dark. Alator walked towards a run-down tavern and sat under a tree there. He gazed up into the sky as thunder rumbled nonstop across the night sky and rain began to drip steadily onto the ground.

Despite the incoming storm, he didn't flinch nor try to run away from the rain. He suddenly smiled like a crazy person. He looked like a bloody mess right now. His hair was a mess, his clothes were torn in places, and his stomach ached from hunger. He had lost all the money he stole while fighting the thugs. Right now, he doesn't have a single money left on him.

Alator had lived a life worse than death ever since he was thrown out of the refugee camp two years ago, immediately after he turned sixteen. The refugee camp had thrown him out for being old enough to fend for himself, leaving him with nothing.

He could still hear the clattering sound of the gate as it shut behind him, followed by the harsh voice of the head warden.

"You're sixteen now, boy. You're old enough to take care of yourself. So get out!."

But what still baffles Alator was that there were other kids at the same age as him who were still being taken care of at the camp till date.

"Why am I the only one that was kicked out?" he muttered to himself.

After Alator grew up back then, he went to the edict hall of the refugee warden to inquire about his personal information, which should contain his name, hometown, family name, or at least the name of the person who brought him to the camp and why he was brought here. However, when Alator got to the edict hall, he was shocked to discover he was the only one without a single piece of information on his tab, except his name that was written with a disgusting handwriting. Not even a surname was attached to it.

"How the hell did I end up here? Did I really fall from the sky or what?"

"Yeah. What now?" Logan asked suspiciously. He could see that excited glint in Alator's eyes and he wasn't feeling good about it."Where did you get it?" Alator asked."Hell no, I'm not telling you that," Logan refused to answer."Come on, just tell me where you got it from and I promise I will not get you involved," Alator pleaded."No, I'm not doing that, okay," Logan said and turned to leave."Don't blame me for telling Valerius about it then," Alator said with an evil smirk. He really didn't want to use this method, but he had no choice now. He was running out of time and was willing to do everything possible to accomplish his mission, even if it meant betraying his close friend.Alator knew that if he was able to get his hands on such a thing, it would surely go a long way in helping out."Alright," Logan finally gave up."Can't believe you're threatening me after saving your ungrateful ass," Logan said in disappointment."I got the Black Dreew from a tree outside the mine a year

It was as if the guy was using mana, because that was the only explanation for his sudden change. But Alator knew that wasn't possible. The guy was wearing the Arcsteel cuff just like everyone else, hence making it impossible for him to use mana. The guy smiled as he gazed at Alator. Just then, he suddenly bolted toward Alator again.Alator saw the guy approaching him and moved as well. This time, Alator was willing to trade a blow for a blow. The smile on the guy's face was annoying, and he really wanted to punch that smile off his face even if it meant getting hurt.Just as the two arrived in front of each other, Alator punched with all his might. The guy suddenly bent, sliding through the ground and totally taking Alator unaware. Ala

Nelix turned and walked towards a huge rock resting against the wall. Alator picked up the map on the boulder and followed him."This rock is not just laying here, it's actually blocking an exit to the outside," Nelix pointed at the rock. Alator furrowed his brows in confusion; he didn't quite understand what he meant."You mean, you can leave the island from here?" Alator couldn't help but ask. If his theory was right, then what the hell were they still doing here?"No," Nelix shook his head. "The exit can only lead you outside the mine, to a forest," he said, then continued."The forest is filled with white fogs, and don't worry, it's free from wild or demonic beasts. Though after searching for a long time back then, we still couldn't find an exit that could directly lead us out of the island without clashing with the soldiers," he said and turned to face Alator."But you can try, maybe you will find the exit. Meanwhile, you know this rock needs more than one or two persons to move

The guy stopped and stared at Alator with an intense gaze. Alator sighed and took a step forward."Fine, let me get straight to the point," he said and dropped the bucket of sand in his hand. Then he continued, "I don't want to continue staying here as a slave, and I can tell you want to leave as well. So why don't we collaborate and escape from here?" Alator said with a straight face. He wasn't going to run around the corners again, since the guy seemed not to be interested in formalities.Hearing Alator, his brows tightened and the guy narrowed his gaze at Alator. The two stared at each other for a while, with Alator waiting for a response. The guy suddenly took a step forward and knocked his shoulder into Alator as he brushed past him without saying a word.Alator closed his eyes and took a deep breath with his fist trembling.
