229. Eva had never been the type to wait for things. When she wanted something, she went after it with a smile. Or a frown. Sometimes with a gun, it depended on the situation. That evening, she had arranged everything to perfection, the candles, the wine, and a table set for two inside one of the smaller dining rooms of her estate. It wasn’t grand like the hall she used for parties. This room was more intimate, and the fragrances in the air were the type to spark some kind of emotion in one’s heart. Devin walked in with a frown on his face. He hated the place already. It was beautiful, but the fact that it was Eva’s made him feel disgust all over. “You asked for me.”Devin said flatly when he arrived, putting his hands in his pockets. “What is this?” Eva’s eyes glittered as she leaned forward on the table, her voice dripping with fake sweetness. “Dinner. Just dinner, don’t look so suspicious.” “With you?” Devin raised a brow. “That already sounds like I’m getting poisone
Chapter 228
228. Devin sat at his desk. A gun lay on the desk, and it was black and heavy, though he hadn’t touched it yet. He had ordered a new one specifically for this purpose. He couldn’t believe what he was about to do, but he had to do it. The guards brought Yvonne Hall in. She was dressed sharp, as always, long fitted pants, neat blouse and her hair tied in place like she had everything under control. But Devin knew better. She looked taken aback the moment she saw him sitting alone with that expression on his face. “Devin.” She said, crossing her arms. “You asked to see me?” He didn’t answer right away. He gestured at the chair opposite his his. “Sit, Hall.” She hesitated, then pulled the chair back and lowered herself onto it. She tried to look calm, but Devin could see her fingers tightening around the edge of her skirt. He leaned forward, resting his elbows on the desk. “Do you know why you’re here, Yvonne?” Her lips went off, giving him a sweet smile. The smile

227. Devin yelled as he moved through the dark room like a storm breaking after days of silence. The place was supposed to be sealed off of sound, but Devin made so much noise that the sound barrier was crashed. Everyone in the mansion was terrified when they heard him. “Fuck this! Fuck all of it!” he shouted, hurling a glass across the room. It smashed against the wall, the shards scattering across the floor. His chest heaved, his fists trembling as if the fury burning inside him had finally eaten through the chains he had always wrapped around it. The small, wiry, and careful servant who had brought in things for him to destroy, sat in the shadows, pretending to be nothing more than another servant. His name was Kellan, but Eva only called him “the shadow.” He had been watching Devin for a while, noting the way the man always seemed so calm, so in control, never raising his voice unless it was calculated. But tonight was different. Devin’s eyes were blazing when he requeste
Chapter 226
226. Mat had been waiting for such a long time. Waiting until the halls went quiet. The heavy doors of Devin’s office was at the far end of the corridor, looking just as big and intimidating as the man himself. He tightened his fists and muttered under his breath. “Bastard thinks he can play me and get my girl? Not a fucking chance.” He’d been replaying the night of the event in his head over and over again. Those women, slipping around like snakes, whispering poison, and stirring shit up, threatening him like that. Mat was sure that it was Devin who was behind it. Who else had the power? Who else had the balls? Who else had the motive to do such a thing except the man who was stealing another man’s bride? He pressed his ear to the door first. Everywhere was silent, and he couldn’t get the sound of footsteps or of anyone talking. Looking around, the place was empty as well. Smiling to himself, he tried to open with just the handle. It was locked. “Figures.” He hissed.
Chapter 225
225. “So ladies and gentlemen, what’s going to happen now is that my companies and partners will have to reject this offer, and hope that in the future, a better one would be brought to our desk.” Devin said, sitting at the head of the long table. The men around him nodded, and others had a look of displeasure on their faces, but he didn’t mind. He had given his piece, and anyone who didn’t like it could have as well cut anything they had going on. They were discussing numbers, shipments, and deals that could shift entire districts in positive and negative ways, so he had to be careful with what he accepted or refused. Then the door opened. Everyone turned around to see who had the audacity to walk into such an important meeting in the middle of business. Eva stood at the door, looking at all the people gathered and shook her head. She didn’t come for these losers, she wanted to pay a special visit to Devin himself, that’s why she was there! Every man at the table stiffened
Chapter 224
224. The call came too early in the morning for Devin's liking. He had barely taken three sips of his coffee and was getting ready to leave when one of his men knocked. "Come in." Devin said, not liking the feeling he got. The man entered into his study, looking pale and very sweaty. "Sir." The man said. "It's the president of the senate. We have reports that he's missing." Devin set his cup down and leaned back in his chair, eyes narrowing. "Missing?" "Yes, sir. No one has seen him since last night. His driver says he never made it home, and his phone is dead. Security detail gone too." Devin couldn't believe it. He rubbed the bridge of his nose, trying to fight the sudden pounding in his head. "Fuck. This is not good, not good at all." The guard nodded. "Yes sir. But what should we do now?" Devin waved him off. "For now, just get out." "Okay, but sir—" "Leave me the fuck alone! I need to think." Devin exclaimed. When the door shu
