Appearance of a dungeon in City C.

The door of the sports car was open; Lucas peered inside and saw that the key was actually in the ignition.

What luck!

He checked the fuel tank, and his excitement died.

No fuel.

Who goes around driving a sports car with no fuel? Lucas grumbled in his head, but he didn't give up.

He searched the cars around and was able to find a hose and a gallon.

He skillfully drained fuel from the surrounding vehicles and filled the red sports cars.

Lucas opened the back seat and tossed in the gallon of remaining fuel.

It might come in handy later.

He entered the driver's seat and turned the car on.

The engine vibrates under his hand, and the car springs to life with a low growl.

Lucas trembled with excitement.

Firstly, he gingerly turned up the car heating until the inside became comfortably warm.

The chill in his limbs slowly melted away.

That's better.

Lucas shifted the gear into drive and slammed down on the accelerator.

The red car shot forward like an arrow and raced down the expressway.

If this was before the apocalypse, Lucas would have been flagged down for going past the speed limits.

Then he would be sent to the police station because he also didn't have a driver's license.

Driving was one of the many skills he picked up in his past life while trying to survive the apocalypse.

He had to slow down as he neared City C.

The cars lying on the road started to increase in numbers, and he could sense a blockage up ahead.

Lucas glanced outside the window to the side.

A white minivan stood at one corner of the road.

He could see a black figure sitting behind the wheel, slumped over the steering. Unmoving.

Dead.

Lucas frowned.

Did a dungeon appear nearby?

The further he drove, the more corpses he saw.

The skin was an ashy purple color, and the corpse was flat, looking similar to a deflated camping bag.

It was as if all the bodily build inside had been sucked out by something.

Less than five minutes later, Lucas had to abandon the car.

"It's such a shame to let you go." He stroked the hood of the car before turning away.

The sun was up, yet it did nothing to ease the coldness that hung on the air.

Lucas immediately missed the warmth of the sport car.

The cars were jammed, and there was barely any space to get through.

Lucas calculated it.

If he walked fast, he would be able to reach City C in ten to fifteen minutes.

Then he felt a sudden warmth attach itself to his ankle.

The soft slippery feeling was light and almost nonexistent, but Lucas was able to grab it distinctly.

His expression changed visibly.

Lucas grabbed the knife in his pocket. In one swift move, he turned around, flipped the knife, and cut off the appendage attached to his legs.

A zzzziiziiii...

A thick black liquid spouted out. One part of the green vine fell next to his feet while the other part writhed painfully.

What is this?

Han Si-woo's face turned cold as several vines shot towards him.

A dungeon monster?

No.

More like an infected plant.

Did the infection spread this fast in his past life? Lucas wasn't sure.

He was forced to put the thoughts aside as a thick vein lashed towards his head.

WHIP!

Lucas stepped back and slashed at it.

More veins twisted out of the ground, string, dust, and stone. They drilled towards him.

Dozens of tendrils shot forward at the same time.

Cut down one, and another would immediately replace it.

Lucas narrowed his eyes and suddenly sprinted forward.

He spun back and forth between the weaving tendrils.

The veins surged forward and twisted into a knot.

It was trying to restrain him!

Lucas increased his speed and slipped through in the nick of time.

Right there.

Countless bodies lay by the root of a small pink flower; greenish brown tendrils extended from the seemingly harmless plant, penetrating their mouths and going deep into their stomachs.

The plant used the human corpses for nutrition.

It was nothing he hadn't seen before.

Almost ninety percent of the dungeon monsters feed on humans.

Lucas moved swiftly. He raised his knife and stabbed right into the head of the pink flower.

The blade sank in without any resistance, and a spurt of thick black liquid splashed across his face.

Lucas instinctively closed his eyes.

Fortunately, he was wearing a nose mask, so most of his face was protected.

He withdrew the knife and then went on to stab it again and again. Expressionless.

Stab...stab...stab...until even the faintest resistance of the vines died out. It slumped on the ground lifelessly.

Lucas straightened his waist and then took off his nose mask.

His lips curved up slightly in disgust as he used the mask to wipe his life clean.

He then tossed the fabric away and returned the knife to his pocket.

He looked through his backpack, brought out a bottle of water, and washed his face.

Lucas brought out a new mask from his bag and changed into it.

He didn't remain at the scene for a second longer and

Lucas ran into two more of the infected vine plants, which delayed his journey considerably.

When he arrived at City C, it was already past two.

Unlike City E where he was coming from, there were more people wandering in the streets in City C.

Lucas saw a woman dragging her daughter away in a hurry.

There were also people lurking in shadowy corners just watching.

Dressed in all black, face covered, and wielding a knife, most people Lucas came in contact with chose to stay far away from him.

Lucas very much appreciated it.

Now that he was in City C, he encountered a problem he hadn't thought of before.

He didn't know where he was going.

Lucas knew the person he wanted to find was to the north of City C, but he couldn't remember the exact location.

At the start of the apocalypse, many buildings collapsed, and the land topography changed considerably.

Maps were useless at this point.

He would have to comb through slowly.

Lucas picked a random shop to rest.

Setting his bag aside, he secured the door and windows, making sure that no one could get in.

He hadn't eaten anything since the night before and felt a bit hungry. Lucas chewed a pack of dry biscuits and then pushed them down with a bottle of water.

That was good enough for breakfast.

The shop he was in was a tech store. There were several phones and PCs on display.

Most of the devices were crushed beyond repair. Broken pieces of glass screen littered the ground.

It was as if a fight took place here earlier.

The shop shared a wall with the building next door.

Lucas could hear faint movement as well as some disorganized words.

"Fire...from his hand...they were trying to bite us...black skin."

Lucas stood up, walked over, and pressed his ear to the wall.

Although muffled, he could hear more clearly now.

"I am telling you. The dead people suddenly stood up and were trying to attack us. Sarah was injured, and Parker was far from the rest of us." There was a slight pause. The speaker exhaled deeply. "We thought they were going to die for sure; then Ja Young raised his hands, and fire shot from them. The people caught on fire!"

There was the sound of heavy breath, which carried a heavy sense of panic.

"So where are parker and Sarah now?" Lucas heard a second person speak.

Something was coming! That damn goblin. Lucas cursed in his head. His thoughts moved swiftly. Behind the cave entrance was a large stone boulder about the size of two grown men joined together. Lucas slipped behind it, back pressed flat against the wall. A rancid, foul stench of rotten flesh and decay enveloped him from all sides. Lucas felt a new presence enter the cave. Lucas subconsciously clamps a hand around his nose. Ugh...it smelled so bad. The foul odor was 10 times worse than before. He could bear the stench of rolling in gutters and going through dumpsters to search for food. Yet this has gone way past his limit! The ground under him shook. Thoom...thoom...thoom... Then a large green figure slowly came into his view. Lucas's eyes trembled with recognition. A king goblin! That ugly-assed goblin led him here on purpose. The king goblin stood several heads taller than an average man with a huge, towering build. The goblin king held a club with spikes in one

"That's the craziest part." The first speaker's voice shook as he recalled. Just as we thought everything was over, a black hole suddenly appeared. I thought I was seeing things at first, but then both Parker and Sarah suddenly disappeared. They were definitely swallowed by the black hole!" Lucas's eyes twitched. He could easily guess that the black hole was a dungeon, but what drew his attention was the appearance of fire users. An awakened one. These were people who awakened systems after the apocalypse. Not everyone could awaken a system and possess an ability. Despite the amount of resources poured into the research, Base-A scientists were unable to give specific criteria on how these people were chosen. Those who were awakened could control elements and spatial fields and heal. They were also stronger and faster than normal people. But the awakened also had ranks. They were. A B C D And S. Up until he died, there was only one person that held that rank. Gabriel.

  • Expressway to City C.

He would have to do this alone. Lucas breathed in slowly, and his hand moved to retrieve the knife in his pocket. Two glowing yellow eyes locked on his every movement. Ground hogs. That was the name of the creatures. Just one of them was enough trouble for a D-ranked player, not to talk of him, who was a normal person and without any ability. The groundhogs let out a gru..lu..lu.. sound and attacked him at the same time. Lucas sidestepped a claw aimed at his chest. A vicious breeze struck his head. Without thinking, he ducked forward, tucked in, and rolled over. The feeling of razor-sharp teeth brushing through his hair almost made his legs give out. Lucas tightened his grip on the knife. Gru...lu...lu...lu... One in front and one behind, the groundhogs moved in perfect synchronization. Fuck. Lucas clenched his fist, eyes darting around while dodging the attacks that came from all sides. To the left a row of jagged teeth snapped at his shoulder. Lucas spun to avoid it.

  • Pulled into an abyss.

Lucas took it all with relish. He couldn't help but pity the poor boy who had hurried along to base C with all the struggles only to be informed that his family had moved to base A a long time ago. Was it difficult to send a rescue team to find him? No. His family remained influential even after the apocalypse. If they wanted to, they could. It was Lucas that was too stupid to see the truth then. No one cared. Before and after the apocalypse, he remained a burden that his parents couldn't wait to get rid of. He didn't wait to send the helicopter off with his eyes like he did in his past life. Instead, he was the one who walked away this time. Leaning on them, he had a view of his straight back."Lucas, I am sorry. Lucas!! Lucas, stay alive, okay! Lucas...Lucas...I will wait for you, okay? Charlotte's voice slowly faded away. Better not. Lucas wanted to tell her. If he returned to the Harrington family, the Whitmore family, and those who conspired to harm him, none of them
