DRAGON ACADEMY: THE CHOSEN

CHAPTER 7

HOUSE PARTY, HOLLOWERE

At a house party in Hollowere, disco lights filled the room as people danced to loud music. Cody, Jack, Anna and the students filed in

“Is this what human parties are like?” Jack shouted over the noise 

“Yep” Cody nodded.

Jack grinned “time to release my wild animal spirit”

A group of attractive girls walked past him, eyeing him. Jack’s grin widened

“I have to handle something first”

He started to follow them, but Anna grabbed him by the ear and pulled him back.

“You’re here to party” she grabbed a bottle “so, let’s dance!”

They entered the heart of the dancefloor. The group were dancing, laughing, and having the time of their lives. 

Afterward, Cody, Jack and the boys became wasted to the point that they all passed out on a couch. Anna stood over them, completely sober. 

“Knew they couldn’t handle it” she scoffed

Outside the house party, Anna approached a parked car. She used her powers to create a key, unlocked it, and drove off. 

From a distance, Cole, who had followed them, watched.

“I knew you were going to no party” he muttered to himself before following her. 

Back at the party, the boys had regained consciousness and were back to partying. Cody is surprised when he spots Austin, the kid he had saved from bullying, in the crowd. Ausitn, realizing he had been seen, quickly left. Cody followed him outside. 

In the woods, Cody finally caught up to him.

“Austin! Wait up!” he called out, panting

Austin stopped and turned, eyeing Cody with caution.

“How long were you planning on keeping this from the Academy?” Austin asked, his tone serious 

Cody was confused “I don’t get it. You’re literally at an underaged party, so…”

“Like that’s any different from you” Austin dryly replied

Cody paused “I know why you had me follow you to the woods alone”

“Really?” Austin raised an eyebrow 

Cody grinned nervously “Sorry, but I’m kinda straight, so..”

Austin’s face twisted in disgust “Hell no”

“Whoa, language, young man”

“I know you’re a spirit person” Austin’s eyes hardened 

Cody froze. His blood went cold but he tried to compose himself “What?”

“Don’t deny it. I heard you and your girlfriend at the library”

Cody laughed nervously “OK, one; she’s not my girlfriend. Two; you don't know what you’re talking about”

“Spirit people aren’t supposed to live. Why do you think they were killed off nearly three millenniums ago?!” Austin growled, his voice growing cold

“Austin…”

Suddenly, Austin lifted his hand, and Cody rose into the air. To Cody’s surprise, Austin was a telekinetic. He slowly began to crush Cody’s bones. 

“I have to kill you before it’s too late”

Cody struggled helplessly to activate his powers. He cried out in pain as Austin continued the torture. 

HOLLOWERE MUSEUM

At the Hollowere Museum, Anna stood before the entrance. She created a key and slipped inside.

Inside, she quietly created darts and took out the security cameras one by one. She then moved with agility as she dodged through the laser tripwires. 

Finally, she reached the vault, where security guards stood watch. 

“Hey, boys!” she smirked

The guards turned to her direction, they quickly raised their weapons

“You're not supposed to be here!” one of the guards said firmly 

Anna held up her hands “Now, I’ll give you a chance to walk away while I take what’s in the vault, Okay?”

The guards didn’t move

“Don’t make me go through you” 

The guards opened fire. Anna created a shield, blocking the bullets. 

She signed “I guess you want this the hard way”

Anna launched at the guards, creating a variety of weapons and taking the guards with impressive skill and ease. 

“Maximum security” she scoffed.

Anna then turned to the safe. “Time to get my prize”

Cole then appeared behind her “Anna! Leave the codex alone”

Anna spun around “you shouldn’t have followed me here”

“I knew it was suspicious that you were going to that party at the last minute. Listen, I won’t tell the principal. Let’s just go back” Cole said grimly 

“No” 

“Anna, you’re leaving. With or without your consent” Cole said, his expression serious 

Anna laughed and turned back to the vault “And you’re going to stop me?”

Cole threw his trident. Anna swiftly dodged just in time. The trident flies back into the hands of Cole. He grabbed it and pointed it at her.

Cole’s eyes were wild “I’m doing this for your own sake. You can’t handle the power of that book. It will kill you!” 

Anna created a spear.

She let out a shivering smirk “two can play at that game”

They began to fight, Anna with her spear, Cole with his trident. They both dodged the other’s attacks whilst giving blows. 

Anna tried to punch him, but Cole used a nearby water fountain to create a portal, and Anna’s punch came back to hit her from the other side. 

LIBRARY

In the library, Kenzy and Mila were reshelving books. Kenzy pulled one out and froze. On the other side was a huge, glowing eye.

She leaned in, confused. “What the…”

Before she knows it, something explodes inward and something massive 

tears through. 

A  horrifying beast 

The beast was enormous, with a black fur and limbs that bent the wrong directions. The mouth split wider than normal and let a roar so loud that rattled the windows and sent books flying. 

Kenzy immediately ran. The beast chased her through the library, destroying everything in its path. It then cornered her, creeping closer with its jaws wide open. 

A massive wave of water slammed into the beast, knocking it away. Kenzy turns and sees Mila, with her arms outstretched. 

“What is that thing?!” Mila shouted

“We have to run!” 

They both fled the scene. 

HOUSE PARTY, HOLLOWERE

At the party, Jack is dancing when he suddenly sniffed the air. His expression immediately changed.

“Fear” he whispered to himself. 

Jack snuck out of the party, transformed and ran out. 

WOODS, HOLLOWERE

In the woods, Austin continued to crush Cody. Cody groaned in excruciating pain. 

“Ausitn, please stop!” he begged

“Not until you’re dead!” Austin’s voice was firm

Jack arrived in the form of a giant werewolf and slammed Austin with his tail, sending him flying. Cody fell to the ground.

Cody staggered up, choking “We have to go… now!”

“Bro, what are you doing in the woods?” Jack said as he stared down at Cody. He spotted Austin getting to his feet.

“Wait. Was Glasses beating you up? Aren’t u like twice his height?”

Cody gasped “that’s because he has…”

Austin lifted both of them into the air.

"Telekinesis" Cody finished

“Yeah, I figured” Jack grunted

Austin used his telekinesis to press their ribs, suffocating them. 

“guess i have to kill you both to get what I want” Austin growled 

LIBRARY

In the library, Mila and Kenzy were still being chased. They reached a dead end behind a large mirror. 

Kenzy’s eyes flickered “Mila, do you know how to bend Chinese?”

“Yes”

“We’re going to do a half on my say”

The beast spotted them. It roared before charging at them with fast speed. 

“Now!” 

The beast launched itself at them. They both bent backward at the last second, and Kenzy cast a spell on the mirror. The beast flew past them and into the mirror, trapped. It clawed at the glass, trying to escape.

Mila panted “We need to get help

Kenzy nodded “I’ll get Ms. Green”

HOLLOWERE MUSEUM

In the museum, Cole and Anna continued their battle. Cole used water sources to his advantage, moving through them to block Anna’s attacks. 

LIBRARY, DRAGON ACADEMY

In the library, Mila and Kenzy returned with a tired-looking Ms. Green.

“Why in the middle of the night are you calling me?!” Ms. Green demanded 

They pointed at the mirror, but the beast was gone.

Kenzy stared, confused “where did it go?!”

WOODS, HOLLOWERE

In the woods, Austin continued to strangle Cody and Jack. Cody was about to lose consciousness when the beast suddenly appeared and attacked Austin. They both fell.

Cody gasped for air “The…”

They watched in horror as the beast slaughtered Asutin, eating his torso alive while he screamed in sheer terror. 

It then looked at Cody, blood dripping from its jaws. Jack growled, but the beast ran away, leaving Austin’s corpse. 

“What the hell was that?!”

They stared at Ausitn’s body with wide, hollow eyes, unable to comprehend the brutality that had witnessed.
