Chapter 01.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Damon but you're not what we're looking for, please use the door."The secretary sitting comfortably in her beautiful office announced to Damon who just stood rooted to one spot.

He can't understand one thing, he'd just got here to conduct an interview that was supposed to be held today and without even interviewing him, they've all decided that he's not what they are looking for.

Are these people infected with madness, what's wrong with them?

The questing ring in his head as he stared at the secretary that was tapping furiously at the computer in front of her.

"What do you mean, ma'am? I've not even taken any interviews. How then did you or your company conclude that I'm not worthy enough for the position I applied for? If this is a joke, then I'm not finding it funny." He said with utmost body composure, with the way he was boiling inside, he could rip someone apart right now.

Something in him told him that no one was joking but he wished to give it a benefit of doubt. These are the thirty-two job offers he'd been rejected from since he'd finished school with the best result in his department.

He's frustrated with life itself, he'd been pushing hard hoping that one day he'll get employed but all hopes seem to be fading. No one was willing to employ him despite his incredible qualifications, he has no idea why whatever is happening with him is happening but he doesn't wish to give up. He'll keep fighting till his last breath, he's not someone who quit because of the immense blows life's giving him.

"Don't you understand English, Mr. Damon? Your presence is not required here, why are you pushing your bad luck? I'm not trying to be funny and I see no reason to be acting all funny with you. If you don't get out of this premises I'll have the security throw you out into the street where you belong. Just get the fuck out of here, dimwit, I'm busy, I don't have the liberty to lazy around like you. Use the door Mr. Damon or you'll be manhandled badly." She warned on top of her voice attracting the attention of some people to him.

Damon wasn't moved a bit or hurt by what she said, he'd heard worse insults and had worse treatment so he'd built a great wall to prevent such meaningless words from hurting or getting to him.

"Can I see your boss, please?" He requested, looking at the red-haired plump secretary who gave him a deadly glare.

He's not the type to demean any woman no matter their size or shape but the way the red-haired secretary was looking at him now is giving him a reason to laugh inside despite the seriousness of the situation.

Due to the anger she's probably feeling because of him, her cheeks were inflamed with red color making her over makeup face look reddish more, and combined with her red hair; she looked like an overripe tomato due to plucking.

"Mr. Damon, please who are you? I mean what status do you hold to think that you can demand to see my boss, you're not even permitted to lick where he walks. Get your filthy self out of this place, this is my last warning to you, Mr. Damon." She warned angrily and he could hear the silent giggles and murmurs from the onlookers, he could see some shooting videos but he didn't give a damn, he just wished to see the boss, perhaps he might help him due to old times.

The boss of the company is an old coursemate of his back in the university and he'd helped him a lot with his school work including school projects, he's not depending on the favors he'd done for him back in school to get employed. He's hoping that he'd see his capabilities and employ him in his company, he knows that he's good and he'd graduated with the best certificate in their department.

"Are you still here?" She asked angrily.

"Nope, just pretend I'm not even here." He replied casually and this infuriated the secretary.

She made a few taps on the device near her and soon heavily built men hover him.

"Take this brute out!" She ordered but the security men weren't so harsh, Damon could recognize some of them. Growing up on the street made him familiar with lots of less privileged people.

"Damon, please let's go. This oversized pumpkin can be mean at times." One of the men said in almost a whisper.

"I need to see the boss, is he in?" He asked, walking away with the two men.

"He's not yet here, come sit with us. He'll be here soon." The other one suggested and Damon smiled gratefully at him.

"I'm expecting you two to do more than that!" The secretary shouted at them but they ignored her.

Damon sat with the security men outside constantly checking his wristwatch. He'd been waiting for the boss for the past two hours and there was no sign of him.

His stomach grumbled a sign to show that he hadn't eaten since yesterday night.

His in-laws had made life miserable for him and his once upon-a-time lovely caring wife had turned the opposite of everything she used to be. She'd joined her family in making life miserable for him and he was living a nightmarish life.

His whole life had been from bad to worse and when he'd met his wife, he'd thought that something good was finally happening to him but as life would have it, his wife had become his weakness and she's always using that as an advantage to herself.

Sometimes he wondered how he'd ended up in such a big wealthy family but there's nothing love can't do, although the family was against their daughter's choice of a man, she didn't allow them to influence her decision.

She'd organized a small place where they wedded, his wife had high hopes for him, especially after graduating with one of the best results in the school but everything came tumbling into chaos when no one was willing to employ him.

He'd tried several times and failed but he's not giving up because he needs to prove himself to his ranting wife who'd grown impatient with his zero achievement in life. He has this urge that he owes it to his wife to become successful and make her happy, to see the love she'd once shown him but his fate is total bad luck as every trial leaves him pitiless.

His wife's family was unwilling to employ him, and his brother-in-law made sure of that, he hates him more than the rest and he never knew why and he doesn't care again because the man is a lost cause. He's the type of person that hates you for no apparent reason and those types of people need medical help and serious prayers.

"Dude! Don't think too much, everything will be fine." One of the security men elbowed him playfully.

"Yeah, I'm counting on that bro. I'm just lost at this point. Are you sure the boss is coming in today?" He asked, checking his watch.

It's almost four PM and if he doesn't make it home before six, he's going to sleep on the street.

That's what he gets for living with his in-laws, his curfew starts at six, and if he's one minute late...he's still gonna sleep in the open till the next morning.

"Of course, he never fails to come by today. Those spoiled brats born with a golden spoon tend to misbehave. We work our ass off and they get the money, it's their norm." An old-looking guard came towards him with a smile.

"Old James, still breathing! Howdy 'ol J?" Damon asked, standing to hug the man.

"Yep...death ain't taking me anywhere anytime soon. Wanna see my grandson. Silly Jake here got a woman pregnant." He explained, referring to his son who was sitting near Damon.

"Congratulations pal, you never told me."

"You can come by the slum tomorrow to see 'em, she's heavy and big. I'm afraid she might be carrying more than one." Jake said in despair and his father laughed.

"Double or triple, you're gonna work hard to feed 'em." He said ruffling his gray hair.

"How are you doing, Damon?" Old James asked.

Damon smiled bitterly, old James had been a father figure to him while he lived in the slum, he's a strong man with tales about his young days as a sailor.

"I'm good..."

His speech was interrupted by some cars speeding into the premises.

"That dumb fuck is here, he doesn't care about the less privilege." Old James snorted.

Hearing old James ' statement made him feel bad but he had high hopes that his old coursemate would help him.
