The beast attacked as one.

Miles barely dodged the first bite, rolled beneath snapping jaws of the second, and raised his arm to block the third—

Crunch.

Pain lanced through him as fangs scraped bone but the wound healed quickly. Miles was amused but he didn't have time to relish in that though as the beast was charging at him again.

He roared, countering with a kick infused with demonic force. The impact sent one head reeling with a fractured whine.

The other two struck at once.

Miles leapt back—but not fast enough.

Claws raked his chest. He slammed into the ground, vision swimming as something cracked inside him.

He coughed blood.

The beast didn’t give him time to recover.

It charged.

Miles rolled desperately, barely avoiding being crushed. He staggered to his feet, his lungs burning from exhaustion as his strength was draining fast.

Another attack from the monster .

Miles vaulted onto a jagged rock, then launched himself downward, plunging the dagger into one skull.

The head screamed.

It went limp.

But the remaining two retaliated instantly.

A massive paw slammed into his side.

Miles was hurled into the cavern wall.

Crack.

His ribs shattered as a result of the impact and for a brief moment his vision blurred. It was evident that the beast was significantly more powerful compared to the other hellhounds

However, Miles found himself enjoying the thrilling fight. He laughed as he felt his bones healing and wiped off Blood ran down his lips as he pushed himself up.

“Not… enough,” he rasped. 'I don't intend to die in this place.’ he added, gripping his dagger tightly.

His gaze was more focused and his eyes moved to The dead wolves. There were still two wolves whose core he hadn't devoured yet. Fortunately, the body was right next to him.

Without hesitation, he reached out and dipped into the flesh of the hounds for their core which he immediately absorbed.

The energy answered.

Dark wisps surged into his body—raw, violent, overwhelming. His markings flared bright crimson. His broken ribs snapped back into place.

The three-headed wolf hesitated.

For the first time—

It sensed fear.

Miles charged forwards, his speed had slightly increased than he moved before. He kicked himself up into the air and imbued the dagger with demonic energy before landing a strike on one of the wolf’s heads.

Unlike before, his attack dealt enough damage as it pierced the beast skull.

The other heads felt the pain as well and one attempted to bite Miles. Instead he dodged and grabbed its jaw, muscles screaming as he forced it open wider than nature allowed and ripped it apart.

The last head began to feel fear creeping down his spine seeing the demons of the other two heads. It opened its mouth wide open and spit out a wave of fireball at him

Miles stood tall—battered, bleeding. Seeing the fire wave flying towards him he swiftly dodged the attack and lunge forward at the beast

The blade pierced straight through the final eye.

The beast collapsed in a thunderous heap, shaking the cavern.

Miles then gathered demonic energy into his fist before landing a thunderous punch on the beast.

The explosion tore the cave apart and when the dust settled, the three-headed wolf lay still.

Dead

Silence fell.

Miles stood alone amidst carnage with his chest heaving, crimson markings slowly fading.

He looked down at his blood-soaked hands.

“…I’m not weak anymore,” he whispered.

cavern was silent now, save for the soft drip of water echoing through the jagged walls. Miles' chest heaved, his lungs screaming for air, and his arms shook violently as he sank to one knee. The three-headed wolf lay motionless, its grotesque heads twisted in death. Crimson ichor seeped from the punctures Miles had delivered, the residual smoke of demonic energy curling around the shattered beast.

For a moment, the adrenaline faded, leaving Miles suspended between triumph and exhaustion. Every muscle in his body felt like it had been stretched beyond its limits, bones threatening to buckle under his weight. Yet amid the pain, a strange, gnawing sensation stirred in the depths of his chest—an almost primal craving he couldn’t name.

He shivered, not from the cold, but from awareness. The three wolves’ bodies radiated a lingering demonic aura, a pulsing, almost sentient energy that clung to the air like a tangible fog. Miles’ instincts—the instincts of a starving demon had awoken within him—alerted him immediately.

He took a shaky breath, forcing his mind to focus.

“This seriously can’t be real.” Miles muttered with an unbelievable look on his face. He was amazed by the status details the system displayed but it was too uneasy to accept that he was no longer a human but a demon.

He was even more astounded by how impressive his stats were and the fact that he could even gain stats points to increase his physical ability was even more thrilling.

Miles didn't hesitate to distribute the stats point into his stats

Another Knight swung a massive sword overhead. Miles rolled under it, the edge grazing his shoulder and tearing a deep gash. Blood ran down, soaking his sleeve, but he forced himself up. He was outnumbered. One Knight thrust with a spear, the tip grazing his chest, drawing blood. It pressed against the ears like a living thing, so heavy and oppressive that one could hear the frantic pounding of their own heartbeat screaming for escape. Hale’s voice tore through the suffocating pressure like a blade. “Hold the line! Formation—now!” His command snapped the group into motion by instinct alone. Kael and Dren moved to the front despite the fear clawing at their throats, blades raised. Boros planted himself beside Hale, shield up, axe glowing faintly with mana. Kira stood behind them, staff shaking in her grip as she began chanting, green sigils spiraling into the air. Hale’s mind was racing. Twenty Death Knights. This wasn’t a battle. It was an execution waiting to happen. “Kira—barrier! Full output, now!” His shout cut through the chaos like a blade. Kira didn’t hesitate. She slammed the butt of her staff into the stone floor, teeth clenched as she poured every drop of mana she could muster into the spell. Runes flared beneath her feet, expanding outward in a radiant dome of pale-blue light that enveloped the entire group. The barrier formed just in time. Steel slammed into it. BOOOOM—! The first Deat
