“Ola, what are you talking about?” Sawyer was stunned where he stood.
He walked towards her and tried to touch her but she flinched, causing Smith to shove him hard.
He staggered backward, struggling to keep balance on his feet.
Tears rolled down Ola’s face as she clutched onto Smith’s uniform.
“Sir, you are always away, a frail young woman like me can barely defend myself against a man with a big build like him. I had no one to protect me when this weirdo came to my place, banging on my door at midnight.”
“At times, I thought I was going to die because of how aggressive his knocking got. Even the neighbors were concerned for me and offered to let me pass the night at their place after they chased him away from my doorstep. That did not stop him from coming back to harass me.”
Her grip on him tightening, more tears leaked from her eyes, “Sir, you had no idea how dark nights were scary for me. Sometimes, I had to call Ann to come stay with me, so I could be safe.”
Sawyer could not believe his ears and what he was seeing. It felt like he was seeing a new person instead of his girlfriend of ten months because of the performance she was putting on in the presence of everyone.
“Ola, why are you making shit up? Are you some novelist now? Everyone here knows we are in a relationship. Sergeant, you can ask them. I am no stalker.” Sawyer defended himself firmly, not willing to drag it on anymore.
He had had enough from the madness she was displaying.
“Enough!” Smith held her closer to himself, then he kissed her forehead, then he faced the whole room. “Is there anyone that can attest to what this savage said?”
The whole room went silent, they were all scared of Smith, he was an high-ranking, if they dared cross him, they could lose their life for it.
From the look of things, he favoured Ola over Sawyer. They all knew ola was messing around with Sawyer, they had enjoyed the needfit that Sergeant Smith had provided while she was cheating on him.
If they acknowledged what Sawyer said, they would become a hypocrite and an offender for not reporting the situation to him earlier.
Hence, causing punishment to their own necks.
“The room is quiet.” Smith snarled, as his ears reddened in anger, “You dare go after my woman and even stalk her then lie that her words are false?”
“Sir Smith. I dare not. I have been framed. I never stalked Ola.” Sawyer was not expecting that the whole room would go silent that way. He was not expecting them to support him but they were aware of the relationship, all they had to do was to confirm that to Smith and that would be the end of the case.
Even Ola’s biggest opp, Gracie, was quiet. Earlier she had been running her mouth about his relationship with Ola, now she was not saying anything.
“It is Lady Ola to you!” Smooth yelled in his face "and don’t you dare mention her name. You harass her just because I have been away, working on the affairs of the state, and you keep saying that you are innocent. Are you toying with your life?”
It was not shocking that none of them came to his aid, he did not belong to their class, it was more profitable to rake Ola’s side, afterall she was more affluent and influential in the society than he was.
He was just a paper boy to all of them.
“I am not telling lies. It is quite shameful that you are listening to one side of the story. It is not proper to just believe a woman’s words blindly! Her crocodile tears will only implicate me if you do not look at things objectively" Sawyer argued.
“Sire!” Ola collapsed on the floor, hitting her chest, wailing loudly, with Ann trying to comfort, “I was in despair and agony for days with the fear that one day, this crazy man might kill me before you return. Now he is telling you to simply doubt me because I am a woman and he dared to insult you so that you won't judge this situation objectively.”
“I blame myself for all of this. I should have listened to Ann when she told me to tell you about it but I thought about the state affairs, so I didn't want to bother you. If not, this miscreant would not dare hurl disparagement at you.”
Her words of guilt tripped Smith, he had barely been at home to spend time with Ola.
He had made his intentions clear about courting her but his busy schedule only gave him a few days a month to spend with her.
Ola was considerate to let him rest in her arms and not even bother him about the scavenger that was after her.
Now he was regretting his actions, he should have stationed more men around her.
“We have witnesses against you, so make this easy for yourself and reduce your sentence by admitting to the truth. So I am going to ask you for the last time. Did you harass Ola?”
“I, Sawyer Bills, have never for once in my life committed such an atrocity against Ol..” he was about to call her by her name when Smith glared at him. “Lady Ola.”
There was no way he was going to admit to what he had not done. He had proof that he was dating Ola, he had receipts of the gifts he had gotten her. All he had to do was to present it when the time came and he would clear his name.
“I see you are not ready to go down the easy route.” He looked away from Sawyer. “Guards, Jail him!”

Chapter 145 - The Reward
The doors of the Outer Sect Hall opened before Sawyer and Elder Rowan had even reached the top of the stone steps. Two attendants bowed to the elder, then glanced at Sawyer with an interest they did little to hide.Sawyer ignored their stares as he followed Rowan inside. His body still carried the punishment from the final battle, and every few steps sent a dull ache through his ribs, but his attention remained fixed on the enormous hall ahead.Several elders were already seated behind a long wooden table. Wang and Chi stood before them, and Wang immediately grinned when he spotted Sawyer entering with Rowan.“There he is,” Wang said, folding his arms. “The great number-one Outer Disciple finally decided to show up.”“You were brought here before me,” Sawyer replied. “How exactly was I supposed to arrive first?”Chi covered a small smile while Wang opened his mouth, searching for an answer. Finding none, he simply shrugged and muttered something about champions becoming arrogant too q
Chapter 144 - Victory
Kaelan stood motionless across the arena, his weapon lowered slightly as he watched Sawyer. The battle had reached a point neither of them could have anticipated, with the strongest Outer Disciple facing an opponent who had gradually learned how to read him.Sawyer's breathing was heavy, and his injuries made every movement painful. He knew he couldn't drag the battle out much longer, so he needed to make the advantage he had discovered count.Kaelan moved first.Sawyer saw the shift in his shoulder. He stepped aside. The attack missed.Kaelan immediately changed direction, but Sawyer had already anticipated the movement. He moved inside the weapon's range and struck Kaelan's wrist.Kaelan's grip loosened.Sawyer followed with a blow to his ribs. The strongest Outer Disciple staggered. The crowd erupted.Kaelan recovered quickly and launched another attack. Sawyer avoided it by the smallest margin, then struck the side of Kaelan's knee before retreating.Kaelan's expression tightened.
Chapter 143 - Showdown
Kaelan moved so quickly that Sawyer didn't even see the first step.A sharp impact struck his chest, and his body flew backward before he understood what had happened. He landed hard against the stone, rolled across the platform, and stopped near the arena's edge. The crowd exploded."He's already down!""Kaelan didn't even use a technique!"Wang gripped the railing."That speed..."Chi's expression remained tense. She had watched Sawyer fight stronger opponents before, but Kaelan's opening attack had made those battles look almost ordinary.Sawyer pushed himself upright. His chest hurt.He took one careful breath and looked toward the center of the arena.Kaelan was still standing where he had started.Sawyer's eyes narrowed. That wasn't normal speed. It wasn't simply superior cultivation either.Something about Kaelan's movement had made him difficult to perceive.Kaelan raised his hand.Sawyer barely moved before another attack arrived. He blocked. The impact numbed his arm.Kaelan
Chapter 142 - Last Opponent
The cheering had barely faded when the examiner raised his hand again. His expression was unusually serious, and the change was enough to make the remaining disciples quiet down."Before the final battle begins, the last participant must be introduced."Sawyer stood at the center of the arena, still carrying the injuries from his previous battles. His uniform was torn, his left arm was stiff, and every breath reminded him that his body had already been pushed far beyond its normal limits. The massive ranking monument behind the examiner began to glow.A single name appeared above Sawyer's.KAELAN VOSS.The reaction was immediate.Several disciples gasped.Others exchanged excited looks.Wang's expression became serious."That's him."Chi looked toward the arena entrance."The strongest Outer Disciple."Sawyer followed their gaze.A young man walked through the eastern gate.He wasn't particularly large, nor did he carry an intimidating weapon. His appearance was actually rather ordina
Chapter 141 - Last Blow
Darius remained on one knee, his weapon lying several feet away. The examiner had already asked whether he could continue, and every sensible answer pointed toward surrender. His injured right leg trembled beneath him, while blood ran from the corner of his mouth after Sawyer's last combination.Yet Darius couldn't bring himself to accept defeat. His eyes shifted toward the upper stands.Cassian was there. The Inner Disciple stood behind the stone railing with his arms folded, his expression unreadable. He offered no encouragement and showed no concern for the disciple who had entered the arena carrying his expectations.Darius clenched his jaw."I can continue."The examiner frowned. "Are you certain?"Darius forced himself upright."Yes."A murmur swept through the arena.Sawyer watched him carefully. He could see the anger beneath Darius's determination, and that made the decision dangerous.Darius wasn't continuing because he believed he had discovered a way to win.He was afraid
Chapter 140 - The Trap
Darius remained in the center of the arena with his weapon raised, watching Sawyer carefully. The confidence in his eyes had returned after discovering that Sawyer had identified his weakness.Sawyer didn't rush forward. His injuries had already drained much of his strength, so wasting energy on another direct exchange would only give Darius another opportunity to overwhelm him.The arena floor offered several possibilities. Cracks from the previous battle crossed the stone near the eastern boundary, while scattered fragments made certain sections unstable.Sawyer studied the terrain.Darius noticed his attention shifting away from the fight. "Looking for another escape route?"Sawyer ignored the question. His eyes moved across the platform again. The western side remained relatively stable, while the center contained several shallow depressions created by the repeated impacts. He remembered how Darius had reacted earlier. The disciple avoided damaged ground whenever possible.
