Fifteen minutes after the call disconnected, three black choppers landed on the mansion’s helipads.

Half a dozen elite guards, neatly dressed in black tuxedos, jumped onto the roof and secured the perimeter, scouring the area for potential threats.

As Alex stepped out of the service elevator, the guards knelt in submission.

“Welcome back, boss!” they shouted in unison, keeping their heads bowed and their eyes lowered in reverence.

Dr. Lucy walked beside Alex, matching his confident stride with her measured steps.

“We have been waiting for this day for years,” she said.

“I never thought I’d return to this life,” Alex sighed as he stood among his elite guards, his hands clasped behind his back and his eyes gazing into the distance, trying to peer into some forgotten dream. “I guess the quiet life’s not for me after all. No matter how hard you try, sometimes you can’t outrun your past.”

The unexpected encounter with Robert’s hired thugs caused Alex to change his plans on the spur of the moment. Instead of heading for Kronos Tech, he returned to his beachside mansion and went straight to his conference room on the second floor.Once inside, he locked the door and closed all windows, rolling down the blinds. Bringing his customized laptop to the table, he turned on the holographic projection.Zachary’s face soon appeared as a holographic display, and two more virtual windows popped open around him.“What’s the update?” Alex asked, still wearing the mask of the Faceless Man from the auction.“I am in their system,” Zachary replied, beaming with pride. “The Salasar Group needs to hire a better cybersecurity consultant. All I needed to do was disable a couple of firewalls and breach three layers of basic encryption. Now, I have everything about their company at my fingertips.”“What do you have for me?” Alex asked, getting straight down to business.“Just a second.” Zach

Back in Glenmonte, Alex had left Dr. Lucy to take charge of the greenhouse and was now driving down the old Keppler Highway. Currently, his navigation marker was set on Kronos Tech, and his hands were steady on the steering wheel.Passing through the Vanderbilt Express Tunnel, he gradually slowed down as he approached the toll plaza. Even though no other cars were passing through at this late hour, Alex noticed the boom gate had been lowered, and two men in civic volunteer overalls were standing at the entrance.“Slow down, sir,” one of the volunteers instructed, putting his hand out. Alex was surprised by the suddenly increased security arrangement. It almost seemed a bit excessive.“Where are you coming from and where are you headed?” the other volunteer questioned as Alex was forced to stop his sedan. Annoyed by the unexpected stop, Alex lowered his front window and answered in an annoyed voice, “I’m coming from Liechtenstein and headed for Remington Avenue.” The volunteers sn

Inside a luxurious private resort on the island of New Haven, Felicia was standing on the porch and gazing out into the sunset. But instead of enjoying the natural beauty, her mind was focused on something else.Robert had tried to get her to sit down on the hammocks and take a drink, but she remained adamant in her refusal.“We came here to relax. You should at least try to enjoy the view,” he spoke timidly.Felicia barely heard a word as she was too distracted by her own thoughts. It wasn’t until Robert touched her lightly on the shoulder that she finally reacted.“What?” she snapped at him without warning. “What do you want me to do? Should I cook dinner for you? Or perhaps iron your clothes?”Robert was shocked by the sudden change in her behavior. He had never seen her act out so rudely in front of him, and it made him reconsider his approach.“I was just saying you should enjoy the view and forget all worries for now. We are at a private resort. Let’s enjoy our time off and spen

Since Alex had violated the rules of the Blood Banner Market, he was forbidden from bidding on any of the other items that were still on auction. However, Paul honored his word and allowed him to leave with the two herbs he had won during the last round of bidding.“You shouldn’t have broken the rules, Mr. Verlaine,” Paul Sanchez whispered as he escorted Alex outside once the auction concluded. “I showed you my hospitality by welcoming you with open arms, yet you mocked this establishment by refusing to kill your opponent. It truly breaks my heart to see you go.”As Alex crossed the gate, he stopped and turned around to look at Paul.“I once saved your dear establishment from being hammered by the law. You would have been behind bars, if it weren’t for me.”Paul smiled peevishly, his face still stiff and rugged. “I haven’t forgotten anything. But now that debt has been repaid,” he muttered back.“I already have what I need, so I won’t bother you again. Good luck with your schemes.”A

Seeing the raised wine glasses around him, the young guy in the viper mask turned anxious. He had never expected to see such enthusiasm about a duel. All the people in the room were supposed to be a part of the city’s elite upper circle, but none of them seemed to care about money or even the rare relics on offer. To them, watching a duelist kill another was the best form of entertainment.“If the bidders are ready, then I request them to walk over to this stage,” Paul Sanchez announced, clearing space for the challengers. Alex and the Red Viper climbed onto the stage and stood three feet apart with Paul acting as the mediator.“I would like to remind everyone that this is a highly exclusive establishment, and we are all civilized folk here. So, before we begin the duel, I will ensure it is completely impartial.”Like a magician performing a street trick, he pulled out a set of ten cards and held them face down before the two challengers.“First, we must choose a location. It’s urgent.”The guard raised a suspicious eyebrow and responded in a gruff voice, “Entry by invitation only. Please go back.”Alex put his hands in his pockets and shook his head dismissively.“Do me a favor, would you? Just go in there and tell Paul Sanchez that Alexander has returned.
