The lives of Logan’s childhood friends now depended on Alex, and all Logan could do was watch as his father sat there like a judge dispensing high-handed justice from his chair.

Alex took the golden Colt Python from Michael Marston, and as Logan realized what he was about to do, he couldn’t help but intervene.

“They only did it for me! Please leave them alone!” he cried out in desperation, begging his father to show mercy.

But Michael Marston sat back in his chair and pulled out a clay pipe before proceeding to stuff it with premium tobacco plugs.

Even as Logan kept pleading, Michael Marson lit his pipe and casually took a long, deep puff before blowing the gray smoke in clouds.

“Dad! Please leave my friends out of this!” Logan yelled, straining every muscle in his throat to get his plea across. “I’m ready to apologize to Mr. Verlaine. Just let my friends go!”

“And why should I do that?” Michael finally asked, fixing his piercing gaze on Logan. “You and your friends must all learn to

Michael Marston's warning came as a death knell. In Wickerville, he was the judge, jury, and executioner. And his influence was such that his words were obeyed like law.Alex knew this as well, but instead of backing down, he placed his phone on the supper table, showing Michael pictures of the two missing trucks and a smart tracking blimp right on their location."The trucks and their drivers are still here. I suggest you start looking for your dear son."Michael kept his eyes glued to Alex and shouted instructions to his armed guards."Scour the farmstead! And find Logan and bring him to me!"As his men rushed out to search the farmstead, Michael called his son on his phone."Logan, we missed you at the supper table. Care to explain what exactly has been keeping you so occupied?""Just sorting something out with my guys," Logan mumbled unconvincingly from the other side."Well, say hello to them for me. And remember to always walk on God's green path, son. That's what truly matters

Alex returned to his beachside penthouse, hoping to finally make things up with Dr. Lucy and apologize for the ruined dinner. However, even before Alex could reach his place, she called him up.“Lucy, I am really sorry I couldn’t give you my time. Things have been quite hectic of late,” Alex responded over the wireless while keeping his hands steady on the wheel. “But I promise I will make it up to you.”“I am not even thinking about that. I am just worried about you, Alex. Your recklessness scares me,” Dr. Lucy replied in a subdued tone. “You are surrounded by enemies, but you just disregard all my words of caution. I am afraid of losing you.”Alex’s expression softened as he felt something stir inside his heart. A feeling he had long forgotten.“I am sorry for making you worried. But I can handle this. I need to handle this. That night, I wasn’t the only one who could’ve been hurt. And I can’t bear the idea of anyone harming you.”“I am fine, Alex. I just want you to stop chasing th

Flirting with danger had become a part and parcel of Alex’s life by now. It almost felt like it was ingrained into his being, and no matter where he went, danger seemed to follow at his heels like a tireless hound.Godrick’s words of caution were nothing more than a confirmation of what Alex already knew. But he wasn’t afraid.Instead, he was looking forward to the opportunity of running into another hitman because this time, he wasn’t going to let the bastard escape.Despite Godrick’s warning and Dr. Lucy’s several stubborn insistences, Alex refused to be escorted by a full security detail. He reasoned that it would only draw attention and give the media something to talk about.Accompanied by just his trusted driver, Alex made his way to the Fenerick toll plaza, which was barely a mile away from the Fenerick underpass. The manager and the junior toll officer immediately came out to greet Alex as his black sedan pulled up to the toll gate.“Mr. Verlaine, we didn’t know you would be c

Oliver finally heaved a sigh of relief as Alex left the nightclub with Captain Williams and his team of ex-commandos.Covered in blood and with his ego crushed to pieces, he didn’t dare to even think of targeting Alex and his businesses again. But it still didn’t stop him from calling up his friend and warning him of the danger that was closing in on him.“We got a problem,” Oliver muttered painfully, holding his bleeding cheek.“What?” Ross’s irritated voice came from the other side.“Alex Verlaine. He found out that I’d sent those bikers to burn his warehouse,” Oliver replied. “He was here just now, and he knows someone else is involved in this. This is going to get ugly, Ross. You should be careful.”“So, you’re suddenly afraid of Alex Verlaine?” Ross scoffed. “What happened to all that talk about the young ruling the city? Was that all your drink talking? Or are you just a gutless shrimp?”“I am just asking you to watch your back,” Oliver muttered back, holding back the urge to la

Beads of cold sweat appeared on Oliver’s forehead as he felt a shiver run along his spine. The sharp steel pressed against his throat made his mouth dry up as he tried to speak.“I…don’t know what you are…ta…talking about. There must be some mis…misunderstanding,” he mumbled, trying to squirm his way out of trouble with a sniveling lie.But Alex wasn’t buying his act of innocence.“Kenneth and Barry already spilled all the beans. It is not nice to lie to your elders,” he whispered, pressing the knife so firmly against Oliver’s throat that it nicked his skin.As blood trickled from the shallow cut and stained Oliver’s collared white shirt, he panicked, and his breathing turned ragged and sporadic.“I…am not…the guy you’re looking…for. They lied…to you. I didn’t do anything!”“Let’s try this again!” Alex’s voice boomed from behind as the blade flashed in his hand, moving sharply against Oliver’s cheek and leaving another gash on his skin.“Argh! My face!” Grabbing his bleeding cheek wit
