Back at his beachside penthouse, Alex was out on the balcony sipping an ice-cold margarita when his phone rang. It was Felicia’s name on screen.

Alex wasn’t expecting the call so soon, and he wondered if Felicia had already figured out that he was the one responsible for her dramatic downfall.

As Alex picked up the call, Felicia’s honeyed voice rang from the other side. She had suddenly turned as sweet and soft-spoken as a coy schoolgirl.

“Alex…I miss you. I never thought I’d say this, but I think we made a terrible mistake by getting divorced.”

There was a brief pause as Alex gazed into the distance, remembering her final words before the divorce. Even though Felicia’s voice sounded earnest, he knew she was just desperate.

“Darling…are you really so upset with me that you won’t even talk to me?” she cried, her voice breaking midway. “Was it really so easy for you to forget me…to forget everything we once shared between us?”

Alex put his cocktail glass down on the table and replied in

He wanted to transform the house and drive out every bad memory hiding in its many rooms and corners. The top gardeners and horticulturists were flown in from different parts of Glenmonte and tasked with giving the Rashford Estate a complete makeover.“I want a rose garden out front with a pond in the middle and a walkway leading straight to the house,” Alex instructed. The chief curator bowed and accepted his order with humility.“It will be done, Mr. Verlaine. I have also planned to fill the pond with exotic koi fish and Red-bellied Short-neck turtles.”“Very well,” Alex replied. “See that the garden is bordered with neat hedges and the best bonsai plants.”“Of course, Mr. Verlaine,” the curator replied. “Everything should be completed by the end of the week. I promise you that this garden will be teeming with birds and butterflies when I’m done with it.”Alex signed a cheque of 1 million dollars and g

The next morning, Alex returned to Glenmonte, but instead of heading back to his beachside penthouse, he drove straight to the Rashford Mansion.Felicia was ordering the porters around, ensuring that all their belongings had been picked up and packed safely, while Mrs. Rashford was standing in the hallway, adamantly refusing to leave.“Your late father built this house with his own hands. No one can throw us out like this. I am not going anywhere!” she bawled, wringing her hands in despair. “There must be something we can do about this. We should hire a lawyer and sue the board of directors for betraying us!”“That’s not going to help, mom. We should get moving now,” Felicia replied in a calm voice as she watched the rest of the furniture being loaded onto trolleys.Mrs. Rashford was still howling in the hallway, cursing her wretched luck, when Alex’s footsteps tapped up the granite stairs.Felicia turned around and saw Alex standing in the doorway, dressed in an expensive blue suit p

Inside a dilapidated mansion on the outskirts of Liechtenstein, Jennifer Warrington and her son were discussing their sordid state of affairs and desperately trying to find a way to climb out of the hole they were in.“We barely have anything left after losing that last jute mill,” Edgar muttered, pacing the bedroom. “Uncle Josiah even snatched the damn tanneries from us!”While Blake looked clearly agitated, his mother was calmly sipping on some green tea and rocking back in her wooden armchair, completely unflustered.“We all have your father to thank for our present situation. He gambled away his fortune while getting drunk at the local pubs, and spent the rest of his savings on his worthless young whores,” she replied in a refined voice, her eyes wandering over the cracked portrait of her husband. “I wish you’d died sooner, Peter. It would have at least saved us the embarrassment.”Blake huffed, exhaling a disgruntled sigh. “Dad’s gone now, and his insurance money barely pays hal

Everything she had been so proud of had been snatched from her, and now all she was left with was her vain arrogance.Mrs. Rashford couldn’t believe this was happening to them. Alex’s words, though crystal clear, still hadn’t fully registered in her mind.“You can’t do this to us, Alex. We are your family,” she sobbed. “Where would a poor old woman like me go if you turn us out of our house?”Alex looked right at her and replied with practiced cruelty, “That’s none of my concern, and you never treated me like family.”Unable to get her way with Alex, Mrs. Rashford turned to Felicia in desperation. “Don’t just stand there. Do something! He is your husband, for God’s sake!”Felicia stood there frozen, the weight of the whole situation becoming too heavy for her shaky shoulders. She had never dreamt of such a day, even in her worst nightmares.Desperate and at her wits’ end, Mrs. Rashford app

This drained 1000ml from his body, leaving him weak and exhausted, but he slowly got up and prepared for the surgery. As the visiting doctor came to check on Jakob, Alex walked into the room and took matters into his own hands.“The patient needs immediate surgery. Only a splenectomy can help him recover,” he said. The visiting doctor looked at him through his black-rimmed glasses and raised an eyebrow.“Jakob Rashford is my patient. I know what needs to be done,” he muttered back. “And just who the hell are you even? I don’t remember seeing you here. Are you even a doctor?”Instead of getting angry, Alex responded with professional calm. “You don’t need to know me. But if I don’t operate on Jakob right away, he is never going to recover. So please let me do my job.”“I know what’s best for my patient, and I won’t allow a meddlesome quack doctor to interfere with my work!” the

I got carried away,” she spoke with measured clarity. “Alex…Mr. Verlaine, I am ready to step down as the CEO of Femme Fatale and hand over the company to you. I only request that you save Jakob. You are our only hope.”Alex smiled with satisfaction and replied, “Call a meeting of the board of directors. I need you to finalize everything before I operate on your brother.”This time, however, Felicia remained adamant.“I am not doing that. You already have a foot down on my neck. But I need you to save my brother first,” she replied. “You want me to trust your word?” Alex scoffed.“Yes, Mr. Verlaine, you need to do just that,” Felicia responded defiantly. “I know who you are, but trust me, I have nothing left to lose. I only want you to save Jakob. He is running out of time.”Although Alex didn’t like to do things on her terms, he decided to be compassion
