Chapter 1: The meeting at Cherry's Cafe
“I'll do it, Grandpa.” Alistair Reid remarked in a measured tone over the cellphone. “I'll marry Princess Evelyn.”
His gaze was calm as he stared at an abstract painting hanging on the wall. It was past noon and he was sitting by the window in a private suite in an upscale cafe. “Finally you're leaving that backwater city to claim what's rightfully yours.” Grandpa Reid’s aged yet steady voice replied from the other end. “But are you sure?” Alistair didn't respond immediately, his expression revealing a trace of bitterness before returning to normal. “I am, but it can't happen now, I need a few months to settle matters here in Haven.” “Is it about Sara Connor?” The old man asked knowingly. “Yes… I have to divorce her. I'll let you know when I'm ready.” Alistair replied; his voice remained composed, but the bitterness in his eyes betrayed him. The call ended soon after and Alistair laid his phone aside, a deep sigh escaping his lips as he leaned back against his chair. Though reluctant, he did not regret his decision. Just then, there was a knock at the door of the suite he was in. “Come in.” Alistair looked up, his expression cool and steady. The door opened and in walked a man in a black suit holding some documents. It was Ronald Ray, the divorce lawyer he'd hired. “Are the divorce papers ready?” “Just as you wanted, sir, please take a look,” Ronald replied as he handed over the folder. Alistair let out a slow breath before picking it up. After years of a loveless marriage, he had finally decided to bring it to an end. Although Sara meant a lot to him, he found no point in continuing to hunt a game already hunted by someone else anymore. “Once you and your wife sign the agreement, it will take effect after the mandatory waiting period,” Ronald explained after which he politely asked. “Has your wife arrived yet, sir?” “Not yet,” Alistair replied calmly, flipping through the details. “But I'll see to it that she signs.” “...Very well, sir,” Ronald said, a hint of awkwardness in his tone. Having handled numerous divorce cases, he knew it was time to leave. “If you have any concerns, sir, just give me a call.” “Of course.” With that, Ronald smiled courteously, shook Alistair's hand, and took his leave. Barely two minutes after Ronald left, the crisp sound of high heels echoed outside the private suite, striking the tiles in a demanding rhythm. Soon, a tall, stunning woman with delicate features stepped into the private suite. She wore a navy blue corporate suit that despite looking professional, did not take away from her incredible beauty. With minimal makeup and jewelry, she looked gorgeous. She was Sara Connor, Alistair's wife, the renowned CEO of the Connor Group- decisive, efficient, and commanding. “Sara.” Alistair breathed out as he turned to look at the woman he once called the love of his life. But then, he saw that she wasn't alone. Accompanying her was a tall, handsome man. It was Tristan Cole, Sara's ex-boyfriend from her college years. “What is he doing here?” Alistair questioned as he glared coldly at the uninvited guest. “I don't recall…” “What's wrong with that?” Sara lashed out, not seeing anything wrong with Tristan's presence. Tristan chipped from the side with a mocking smile. “Yeah bro, chill out. Don't be so thorny.” Watching Tristan pretend to be friendly and close with him caused a flicker of disgust to flash in Alistair's eyes. “This is a private suite for couples, and in case you don't know what that means, it is meant for a husband and a wife, not a husband, wife, and her ex who can't seem to understand boundaries!” Alistair said coldly. Tristan hadn't expected Alistair to be so blunt. His expression froze as if he'd been struck hard, then he feigned a pitiful look and apologized. “Sorry bro, I didn't mean to offend. If it really bothers you, maybe I should leave…” “Enough with the theatrics!... Just get out then.” Alistair sneered. He knew that Tristan was merely playing the victim, trying to look innocent and pitiful in front of Sara to win her sympathy, just like he'd done countless times before. “Enough, Alistair!” Sara snapped, her impatience cutting through the tension. “Why do you always have to pick on Tristan? Can't you stop being so petty?” Then, she spun towards Tristan, her tone softening instantly. “Ignore him. You don't have to go anywhere.” Though prepared, a swirl of emotions churned inside Alistair as he stared at Sara. Was this really the living woman he married years ago? A woman who would pick her ex's side over her husband again and again? Did she not realize that because of Tristan, their marriage was already hanging by a thread?! Meanwhile, a glint of triumph flashed in Tristan's eyes and a mischievous smile hung at the corners of his lips.Expand

The Hidden Sovereign Rises after Divorce Chapter 76: Banned from the Beggar's Sect
“Please, it won't happen again. Just spare me this once.” Conan pleaded. “Be grateful that you are still a member of the Beggar's Sect. Otherwise, you would already be a corpse.” Alistair calmly said. The Beggar's Sect had a rule that killing a member of their organization would be considered the same as killing the organization itself. And the punishment for such an act would be excommunication. No member of the Beggar's Sect would ever accept requests from the killer and they would be isolated from all information.Of course, even if they wanted to, the Beggar's Sect couldn't possibly punish Alistair if he went ahead to kill Conan. After all, he was the Shadow Emperor of Arcadia. But Alistair respected them and so, respected their rules as well. There was no need to force the sect to break their rules when they could adequately punish Conan in his place. With that in mind, Alistair shoved Conan away, causing the latter to crash to the ground. Just then, Beggar John walked up to A

The Hidden Sovereign Rises after Divorce Chapter 75: A disgrace to the Beggar's Sect
“What?” Beggar John glanced at Benjamin. “Is this true?”“Of course not, master! Why would I do such a thing? This bastard is lying!” Benjamin immediately tried to defend himself. Pursing his lips, Beggar John glanced at Alistair. “Mr. Reid, are you sure you aren't mistaken?”“What do you think caused the conflict you stumbled upon?”Beggar John could hardly believe his ears. Turning to Benjamin, he coldly remarked. “You'd best tell me the truth right now, otherwise, if I investigate and I find out the truth myself, I will make sure you suffer until your death.” Terrified, Benjamin didn't dare to hide anything. The Beggar's Sect was known to be masters at gathering information. As a disciple of the sect, he knew more than anyone how incredible they were at gathering information. So hiding anything from his master would only put him in more trouble. With no other choice, Benjamin could only tell the truth.“I asked for a visitation fee, but that's only because I thought he was a sc

The Hidden Sovereign Rises after Divorce Chapter 74: A greedy disciple
Benjamin and Conan froze while Alistair glanced in the direction of the one who spoke. It turned out to be a middle-aged man in a dirty Chinese robe. He seemed like a beggar one would see on the street, but his eyes were filled with wisdom, and his posture made it clear that he was a martial arts expert. It was none other than Beggar John, one of the leaders of the Beggar's Sect in Haven. “Master, how come you are out here? I thought you were meditating?” Benjamin said, trying hard to hide his panic.Beggar John snorted. “You knew I was meditating yet you allowed people to be making noise out here.”“Sorry, master, it's honestly not my fault. A fool came in here seeking trouble so I asked Conan to come and remove him before he made a mess.”“Who would be so bold as to come into the Beggar's Sect and cause trouble?” Beggar John asked.“You don't have to worry, master. I'll handle everything, just head inside for now.” Benjamin said. Ignoring him, Beggar John looked around only for

The Hidden Sovereign Rises after Divorce Chapter 73: Throwing weight around
“I understand that you are stepping out of line,” Alistair remarked. “So, get back in line.”“Enough!” Benjamin flared up at this moment, unable to stay silent any longer.Glaring at Alistair, he remarked. “How dare you insult Mr. Carter? Don't you have any manners?”“Since when did demanding the right thing become insulting?” Alistair asked back. Alistair's response infuriated Benjamin even further as he pointed at him. “You'd best shut your mouth and sit back down right now otherwise, don't blame me for what happens next!”“And if I don't?” Alistair asked, taking a step forward instead. Seeing this, Benjamin nodded his head. “Good, very good. From this moment, you are banned from the Beggar's Sect!”Then, he ordered the martial artists at the door. “Guards! Kick this fool out right now!” “Understood!” As the guards responded, they walked up to Alistair to do as instructed.Meanwhile, Benjamin turned his attention back to Louis, already thinking that Alistair was done for.“Mr. C

The Hidden Sovereign Rises after Divorce Chapter 72: An arrogant receptionist
Alistair took the elevator to the next floor, quickly coming across a reception, along with a door guarded by two security men who were clearly martial artists.Seemingly trying to intimidate Alistair, they released their spiritual pressure at the same time, but Alistair casually shrugged it off as he approached the receptionist, who was a young man wearing a Chinese robe. He had the name tag, Benjamin. “I'm here to speak with Beggar John. Is he available?” Alistair asked. The receptionist, Benjamin, raised his head to regard Alistair with a rather arrogant and haughty look in his eyes. After seeing the simple clothes that Alistair was wearing, Benjamin muttered almost dismissively.“Beggar John is busy.”“When will he be free?” Alistair asked.“He is busy now but if you can pay a 10 thousand dollars visitation fee, I can see what I can do for you,” Benjamin remarked. Alistair furrowed his brows. The Beggar's Sect only ever charged money for information shared. And the money wasn'

The Hidden Sovereign Rises after Divorce Chapter 71: A fake drug
Sara's lips quivered. “We?”“Yeah, listen, I made a mistake so this is me trying to resolve it. I want Connor Group to help me produce the drugs and also handle marketing and sales as well. As for how we'll split it, we can go with a 70/30 split. You take 70 and I take 30, especially since you'll be handling everything else. Sorry, I'm dropping everything on you.”“You see Gerard! We didn't need that useless Alistair Reid at all.” Jocelyn said excitedly. “All we need is Tristan and now we are about to enter a period of generational wealth!”“Exactly, Dad! This is absolutely going to transform our family.” Mira said. “Sis, you absolutely have to marry Tristan. I won't take no for an answer!” Lucas remarked as well. Meanwhile, Sara remained silent, struggling to accept what was happening.Noticing this, Tristan asked. “Is everything okay, Sara?”Sniffling, Sara shook her head. “No, it's just… Thank you so much, Tristan. I honestly don't know what I'd do without you.”“Heh, what are fr
