The man stared at what was happening; he was speechless, and in that moment he let go of the gun he was gripping tight, and it fell to the ground.

The man dropped to his knees and at that moment he began to beg. “Please don’t kill me.”

After the mutation that had happened, about fifteen years ago. Most humans weren’t affected, and the few humans who were affected in the city were seen as gods and feared. The man currently sees Gideon as one of them because he knows that death is for sure for him after making the careless move of pulling the trigger.

Gideon was stunned as to what had just happened. “Dope, that means I have gotten a superpower.” The thought rumbled inside his mind as he thought about it.

Gideon wasn’t a mutant; he wasn’t impacted by the chemical pollution outbreak that had occurred years back, so what had just happened to him startled him because he knew only mutants were capable of doing something of the sort.

Gideon was confused; he touched his chest before looking up to the man who was begging on the ground. Gideon then turned and left, without saying a word.

He got into the truck he had borrowed from the old lady at the Greenville Forest. But before then, he had scooped a bike at the back of the truck, which he would use to go home after giving the truck back to the woman. He had made her a promise, and he would rather not fail her.

Gideon rode to the forest, and within a couple of hours, he was at the woman’s house. He went into the house but didn’t see her inside.

“Old lady, where are you? I’m here to return your car. Thanks for the help,” Gideon raised his voice, trying his best if he could get it to reach wherever she was at the house.

After a minute of calling out to the woman, Gideon didn’t get any response from her, and this startled him.

“Where could she have been,” Gideon wondered before stepping out the door. His eyes scanned the environment, but he still couldn’t find her.

He didn’t want to just leave the car and drive on his bike. What if something bad had happened to the woman? Besides, she was the only one staying in a place like this.

Gideon shook his head dismissively before mumbling. “No I can’t leave yet; let me wait a bit.”

Gideon had searched around the house but still couldn’t find the woman, He even went as far as going into the forest, calling out her name, but still, he didn’t get any response.

Gideon was left worried; he returned to the truck and leaned his back against it. “What could have happened, or could she have been attacked by a wild animal?”

While Gideon was deep in thought, he suddenly heard a creaking sound coming from the bush axis, He took a stand waiting for what would reveal itself but then all of a sudden the old woman emerged from the bush, holding an antelope larger than her size on her shoulders, and the moment she saw Gideon, she dropped it on the ground.

“Ooh, you are back. I didn’t know you would keep up to your word. I know you must have waited for me and had been worried. Sorry about that. I went off to hunt. That’s why I stayed longer than expected, those animals played me smart this time, hehe.” The old woman laughed.

Gideon was baffled; not only did he just see the woman carry a giant antelope larger and heavier than her, but she also walked fluently as though the weight was nothing.

Gideon then stepped forward towards the woman before dropping the truck keys in her hands. “I came to return your truck, and these are the keys. Thanks for helping me.”

The woman laughed. “How do you intend to go back home now that you have returned the keys to me?”

Gideon then pointed his fingers to his left, where he had parked the bike he had come with. “I will use that as my ride home.”

After saying this, he turned and got on the bike. “Old woman, I don’t know what a person like you would be doing in a dense forest like this, but just be careful, okay?”

The old woman chuckled softly before replying, “Yes, I will be fine, you don’t have to worry about me.”

After the woman finished what she was saying, Gideon chuckled with slightly raised lips before riding away.

The next day, Gideon resumed work, though he had passed the night in a hotel. Clara, his colleague, trembles anytime she sees him. He had explained to her that he is very much alive, but still she can’t let herself accept what he had said.

Muzan was seated at a chair, and Gideon dropped some documents on the desk for him to check out.

Muzan slightly lifted his gaze before dropping it on the document before him. “This case is the reason you went missing for three years. Don’t tell me you are still interested in the case.”

Though it wasn’t fully verified that Gideon died, the only verification Muzan saw was a photo and video of his dead body sent by an anonymous person from the Black Bull Cartels. Gideon’s body was never found physically.

Gideon then took a deep breath before replying, “Sir, the reason I can’t let go of this case is because I have made some discoveries that led to my father’s death sixteen years ago.”

Muzan shook his head dismissively. “I disagree with anything you are trying to come up with, I can’t let you risk your life like before again. If I had known that this would happen three years ago, I wouldn’t have let you in on this case.” Muzan pushed the document away.

Gideon then sighed deeply, his head down, his teeth gritted, and gradually he lifted his head. “If you are truly my friend, let me continue this case, and I swear I will get to the bottom of this, I will make sure the two men who had died years ago get their justice and as well, make sure my father gets his as well.”

Gideon was determined when he spoke. He had treasured his job so well that he wouldn’t mind risking his life as he had done before.

After seeing how determined Gideon was, Muzan finally agreed. “So what do you want me to do?”

“I want you to allow me to reopen the case again. Clara told me you have requested that the case be forgotten because the Black Bull cartels were involved in it. If we keep giving those thugs wings to fly, they will surely outmatch us, and we will be nothing more than clowns in cops’ clothing.”

After hearing what Gideon said, Muzan sighed before nodding. “Very well, you are allowed to do anything you want. Do you want Clara to assist with it like before?”

Gideon sternly shook his head. “No, it will be better if I do this alone, she will only get in my way and slow my process.”

Muzan relaxed softly on the chair, with a deep breath. “Okay, you are free to work on the case alone.”

Gideon smiled before turning to walk, but Muzan’s voice cut in. “Won’t it be better if you take a rest for now because you barely recovered from what had happened to you?”

“A true police officer knows his duty, which means resting is not part of it,” Gideon replied bluntly before walking out of the office.

Gideon went over to the man who had self-destructed, and the detective's night vision scanned the black bull tattoo on his wrist. After scanning it, it gave an indication for Gideon to retrieve the man's watch. The detective's night vision was as though Gideon was putting on mechanical glasses; it could scan objects, showing whether they could be used for investigation or not, and the watch, which was indicated for Gideon to retrieve, was embedded with the button that self-destructed the man, which means Gideon could use it as a track in getting to the cartel boss. Gideon slightly bent, then picked up the wristwatch and slid it into his pocket. He went over to the document he was in possession of and slipped it into his bag before heading out of the apartment. Before getting on his bike, he pulled out his phone and dialed Muzan's number before placing a call. “Hello, sir, I was attacked by black bull men. Can you assign some police to come get rid of the men in my new apartment?”

Gideon’s eyes widened as he asked, “You mean I have been dead for three years?” Clara began to mumble words in her mouth, as if already getting mental. “No, this can’t be possible. I saw him die.” Not quite long, the news spread across the department that Gideon was alive. His superior, Mr Muzan, rushed into Gideon’s office, and the moment he saw him, he froze.
