A sharp mechanical chime echoed inside Caleb’s head.

[Ding. Main Quest Triggered. Stockpile and Fortify.]

[Task: Secure essential apocalypse provisions and reinforce primary base within five days. Reward: Variable Combat Power allocation based on supplies collected.]

[Ding. Newcomer Bonus distributed. Combat Power plus 10. Intelligence plus 10. Luck plus 10. Charm plus 10.]

Caleb gasped loudly. A sudden rush of hot energy flooded his veins. The deep exhaustion from tearing apart the penthouse vanished in one second. His muscles tightened and grew thicker. His vision sharpened to an impossible degree.

He felt so much stronger and faster. The system was already changing his human limits.

He pulled out his phone and immediately called Vanguard Construction. They were the absolute best security contractors in the entire city.

"I need my villa reinforced today," Caleb told the manager on the phone. "I want solid steel perimeter walls. I want heavy blast doors. Put thick security mesh on all the windows."

"We are completely booked for the next three months," the manager replied with a very bored tone. "We cannot take any new jobs right now."

Caleb did not blink. "I will pay triple your normal wages. But the work must be finished in exactly two days."

There was a very heavy silence on the line. Triple pay for a massive construction job was an absolute fortune.

"We will have a full crew there in one hour," the manager said quickly.

Caleb hung up the phone. He smiled a cold smile. Money was the ultimate weapon right now. He left the mountain villa and drove his rental car straight to the industrial district.

He found a massive empty warehouse in a very remote location. He paid the owner straight cash to rent it for an entire month. He needed a safe drop zone for his massive supply orders.

Once the warehouse was secured, the real work began. Caleb drove to the largest outdoor survival market in the city to start his grand stockpiling plan.

He knew exactly what was coming. When the apocalypse arrived, the walking undead were only the second threat. The very first thing the world would face was a brutal cold wave. It would last nearly a month.

Temperatures would drop so fast that normal people would freeze in their sleep. Those who froze to death had a very high chance of mutating directly into zombies. To survive the first wave, extreme warm supplies were essential.

He walked into the survival store and found the main clerk.

"I want all your life saving equipment," Caleb ordered firmly. "Assault boats. Heavy duty rubber dinghies. Polar cold weather gear. Subzero sleeping bags. Advanced first aid kits. Portable solar chargers. And a massive supply of refined petroleum."

The clerk stared at him with very wide eyes. "All of it? Sir, that will cost an absolute fortune."

"Just pack it up and ship it to my warehouse," Caleb said. He swiped his black bank card.

He did not stop there. Caleb moved across the city like a quiet ghost. He went to private dealers and purchased large quantities of medicine. He bought out entire stocks of painkillers, antibiotics, and trauma bandages.

He visited underground contacts. He bought heavy weapons, tactical gear, and reinforced bulletproof vests. Next, he went to the city wholesale market. He purchased massive amounts of thick cold weather clothing. He bought pallets of hygiene products, thousands of water purification tablets, and crates of fresh fruit.

Food was the most important currency in the wasteland. Caleb found a massive grain distributor. He purchased over a hundred tons of white rice. He bought mountains of instant noodles and dehydrated fast food. He was stockpiling enough food to feed a small army for years.

Delivery trucks flooded his rented warehouse all afternoon. As soon as the workers unloaded the heavy wooden crates and drove away, Caleb would lock the metal doors.

He would touch the massive piles of supplies. He extracted them directly into his infinite system storage. The physical items vanished from the warehouse instantly. They floated perfectly preserved in his mind space.

By sunset, Caleb sat on a wooden crate in the empty warehouse. He checked his bank balance on his phone. His funds were rapidly dwindling. The three million he got from his mother in law were almost completely gone.

He needed more money. He needed a lot more.

Caleb tapped his fingers against his knee. A cold smile slowly formed on his lips. He realized something very important.

He had signed the divorce papers and handed over the physical property deed to Evelyn and Toby. But the official legal transfer in the city registry took several weeks to process. On paper, that four million dollar penthouse was still legally in his name.

He reached into his jacket and pulled out a small leather pouch. Inside was his original property deed. Right next to it was Evelyn’s official identification card.

During their marriage, Caleb was the live in son in law. He handled absolutely everything in the household. Evelyn was too busy cheating on him to care about her own paperwork. Because of this, all of Evelyn’s private documents were still sitting in his hands.

"You love money so much Evelyn," Caleb whispered to the empty room. "Let us see how much you like debt."

He opened his laptop. He decided to use the penthouse deed and Evelyn’s identification card as collateral. He would take out massive loans in her name.

He found the most ruthless underground lending companies in the city. These were very dangerous men. They broke legs when they did not get paid.

Caleb applied for millions of dollars in cash loans using Evelyn's name and the penthouse address. He set the repayment dates for right before the apocalypse began.

He planned to let her greedy family and the violent lending companies completely tear each other apart.

He hit submit on the final loan application. The screen flashed green. Approval pending.

Caleb closed the laptop. The real game was just beginning.
