The air broke in a surge of pressure as if even this other dimension could not stomach the thought of having Kai go berserk. The worshipers lunged as one, their hands sprouting veins of darkness that twisted into weapons.

Kai had always fought with his hands but he didn’t want to take the risk of fighting these unknown creatures with nothing but bare hands.

He grinned, the grin growing wider and wider as he extended his right hand and with just a look, a sword borne out of light was formed, it came out of nowhere and that had caught them off-guard.

“What?” They were in shock as they stopped just a few feet away from Kai. “He did not recite? Did he just…. His mouth didn’t move.”

Kai grinned, using the confusion to his own advantage as he swung his sword, causing more than half of the creatures to fall backwards, the fallen ones didn’t rise again but still, they kept appearing.

Catherine couldn’t get rid of the smile on her face, being back home felt even better than she had expected it to be. She was glad that they’d made it, and when she looked at Kai, chills snaked down her spine. He was watching her through his half open eyes as if she wasn’t real, or something was going to happen if he took his eyes off of her. Something warm spread across Catherine’s stomach and she smiled back at him.Weakness soon started creeping in and her eyes rolled back, the room looked like it was spinning and her legs could barely hold her up anymore.“Fuck.” She muttered as she sank onto the rug near the fireplace, still shaking. The flames painted her face in soft gold, catching the faint streaks of dirt on her cheeks. Her fingers wouldn’t stop trembling, her temples throbbed and she could almost hear her blood gushing so fast that she couldn’t differentiate it from the thumping of her heart.“There,” Teresa said as she crouched beside her, wrapping a blanket around her shou

The world around them felt so quiet and serene, almost as though they hadn’t just put their lives on the line just a few moments ago, and what’s more, everywhere looked exactly as it did when they left.Nothing had changed, and while they were in that realm, they thought like hours had passed but it felt more like it had been only a few minutes since everything happened. The sky above them looked so normal, and one moment it was sunny and then the next, it was cloudy like the sky was looking forward to spilling. The huge iron gates loomed ahead, the sign glinting faintly in the moonlight — The Grant Estate, and hovering over the estate was the huge veil that Kai had dropped to stop intruders from entering. That’s probably why the portal dropped them right outside, it couldn’t go into the Grants estate. They were really home.Kai laughed once — low and disbelieving — then groaned and lay back on the floor, the darkness that loomed over him didn’t bother him one bit, he could smell the

“I’m seriously sick and tired of trying to take things easy. I’ll do this. Grandpa will understand.” Kai staggered to his feet and the realm fell silent, his eyes were blazing while Catherine offered support with her magic from behind him. The world around him blurred, the bond pulsing hotter than ever and despite the fearless way she was casting the spell, showing sigils and drawing ancient circles in the air, Kai could feel her fear, her rage, her exhaustion, and most of all…. Her trust in him.She believed that not only would he save her, she trusted in his strength, she believed without a doubt that Kai was going to go quiet the realm. He had conquered the forbidden terrain and while she doesn’t know what he went through there, she knew that if he could have overcome that then there was no way that he wasn’t going to overcome this one.Her stomach twisted, her muscles screamed for her to take things easy and her heart pounded so hard and fast that it felt like her ribcage was get

“I have taken it easy with you up until this time because I didn’t think you were worth my time! DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE ME!” Kai roared, and the barrier shattered immediately. The explosion sent him flying through, slamming onto the ground beside her just as the last of her strength gave out and she was at the verge of disappearing into the quicksand.“Catherine!” Kai shouted as he grabbed her wrist, catching her midair, his chest heaving with each breath he took and each breath that came out of his lungs were hot, burning. All he saw was red as his stomach twisted and his heart didn’t feel like it was beating against his ribs anymore, instead, it felt like it was beating in his stomach.Anger, fiery rage took over his demeanor and even as he held Catherine that usually kept him grounded, not just his blood but his body boiled too.Catherine’s head had already gone under the quicksand but it was a good thing that she had hoped he was going to save her, she knew that he wouldn’t leave he

Catherine’s chest heaved, her breathing paced and a black liquid trickled down her eyes, nose, and ears. Her knees buckled, threatening to force her to the ground but she stood still, refusing to conform.“LET ME GO!” She screamed but as she barked out those words, the black liquid spilled out of her mouth. Kai’s eyes widened, his teeth baring and his palm fisted. His glare shot up and the realm trembled, he hated what he was going through, looking away from what would have passed as the sky if they were in their own world, he returned his gaze to Catherine.“Catherine!” He called, his palm slamming into the invisible wall that had erected between them. His eyes closed and he could feel that wall pulsing. The wall isn’t just a wall, it’s alive with something and even if Kai wanted to forcibly tear it down, there is no guarantee that it wouldn’t affect Catherine.Whatever his decision was going to be, he needed to think about the fact that this could potentially damage Catherine, and d

“What did you think, that I was just going to let you go without getting what I called the Lady Cyra in here for?” A voice reverberated through the realm.Kai’s teeth gritted even harder, his whole demeanor was filled with anger, his eyes had gone red and there was only one word ringing in his ears. Kill.He knew that something was off, aside from the fact that defeating who they both thought was the leader had come very easily to him, he didn’t feel right despite knowing that what was supposed to be the biggest threat was gone.A gush of wind swept over the realm and Kai’s muscles pulled taut, his whole body grew rigid but only for a moment as he stood still, his arms refused to work and his legs refused to carry him anywhere.“True, you are a strong opponent,” the voice continued, and despite the force that seemed to make it impossible for Kai to move properly, his eyes scanned around. There was no one around, the realm was deserted save for the new creatures that were trying to cl
