Meanwhile, Jake was already frantic in the villa.

"Those idiots—how can they mess up something so simple!" he muttered under his breath. Fortunately, Nora had already left due to matters at the company; otherwise, she'd be shocked to see Jake like this.

Wasn’t he supposed to be her gentle and refined younger brother? How could he look so twisted and malicious?

Jake’s mind raced, desperately trying to find a way to fix everything. Suddenly, as his eyes swept over the decor of the house, an idea struck him.

"That's it—I can fake a scene where Kai comes back and assaults me. Nora always trusts me unconditionally, so no matter how Kai tries to defend himself, it'll be useless!"

"Plus, I can steal the valuables from the house—Nora will end up believing it was all Kai’s doing anyway!"

Jake let out a wicked grin, thoroughly pleased with his plan.

Looking at the mirror, he was satisfied to see the wound that Kai had inflicted on him and wincing, he rushed to the phone, pretending to be wronged as he called Nora.

“What’s the matter, Jake, you don’t call me at a time like this.” Nora said as soon as she picked the call, immediately sensing that something was wrong.

Jake winced again, breathing heavily into the phone and getting Nora worried and worked up. She had left the villa early to handle an emergency at the Benson’s family company.

“What’s going on? Are you okay? Did something happen?” She bombarded Jake with questions and he smiled wickedly when he saw that he was getting the reaction he had hoped for out of her.

“I— it’s— it’s Kai, he came and—” He faked a cough, holding his chest and wheezing as if he was in real pain and hearing that caused Nora to be all the more infuriated.

“What did he do to you? Did he hurt you?” She asked, showing concern for her biological brother with hatred brimming inside her for Kai.

“Yes but that’s not what is important,” Jake said quickly, “he ran off with all your valuables, sister, I’m so sorry.” He cried, acting as though he was the victim.

“I am so sorry, I tried to stop him, I really tried to stop but he hit a vase on my head and—” His voice trailed off as he sobbed profusely, desperate to make Nora believe his lies.

“WHAT?!” Nora yelled, Jake didn’t even have to act so much, she would believe any word he said and he knew that. He smiled when he noticed how angry she was being.

“I’ll be right at the villa!” She said as she rushed out of the office urgently and drove like a mad woman back to the villa.

Jake dropped the call, satisfied with his acting and a villainous aura took over him as he proceeded to take more things before continuing with his acting.

“She’s so gullible,” he said, laughing at Nora’s instant belief in his words and he walked back to the living room to lay on the floor, “let’s see how you get out of this, Kai.” He sneered before putting up his act again.

She got inside and her bag fell to the ground, her mouth opening when she saw Kai’s situation. He had blood all over him, a busted lip and a black eye.

There was also blood seeping out of his head and Nora rushed to his side, kneeling beside him and lifting his head on her lap.

Jake, in a desperate attempt to make Nora believe everything by the time she came back, had hit a vase on his own head. The pain he felt was real but it was worth it to make Kai the bad guy.

“You’re bleeding so much!” Nora said. She was shaking as she rushed to the kitchen to get water, “I can’t believe that wretched fool!” She yelled.

She rushed around to get him first aid and wasted no time cleaning the blood on his body and patching him up with bandages and plasters.

Her hatred for Kai only got stronger and with the way anger burned in her heart for him, she knew that she could tear him apart with her bare hands if she saw him.

“I’m so sorry, Nora, I really tried to stop him and make sure he didn’t run off with those things but—” He sobbed, putting up an act like he was in utter regret and pain.

“That’s okay, Jake, none of this is your fault,” Nora immediately said as she consoled her brother, her teeth gritted, “It’s that stupid boy’s fault and I’ll make sure that he doesn’t get away with it!” She was livid.

Her brows furrowed in a frown because the more she saw Jake like that, the more breathless with rage she became.

“I AM CALLING THE POLICE ON THAT BASTARD!” She yelled, seething with anger and humiliation but Jake immediately stopped her before she could get to the phone.

He knew that if the police got involved, there would be too many suspicions and the entire thing could be traced back to him since he was the main culprit.

He couldn’t possibly let that happen, he had to do something about it and without hesitation, he spoke up, “you can’t call the police!”

Nora raised an eyebrow, not understanding why Jake had stopped her from calling the police on Kai.

“Why?” She asked, still obviously angry, “he did all these horrible things to you and you’re stopping me from calling the cops?” She added.

“Yes,” Jake answered, “if you call the police then the Benson family’s scandals would be exposed to the public, we don’t want that to happen.” He finished.

Nora hesitated for a bit as she thought that Jake was right and his point was valid. She didn’t want to resort to extreme measures against Kai, but his behavior was too much and he should be punished.

“You’re right,” she muttered, “I’ll handle it differently.” The Benson family had connections with some mafia groups, and Nora made up her mind to have them bring Kai back and punish him properly.

Time sped up so fast as they all enjoyed their company, Kai was conflicted, he contemplated telling the guys about what had happened with Catherine, and what he saw last night, but at the same time he didn’t want to ruin the atmosphere.“Kai?” Lorenzo called when he noticed just how deep in thought that Kai had gotten. They’d also come to the conclusion that they were going to tell him though they didn’t yet know how to effectively tackle the situation. The irregulars are an awful bunch of creatures, and they would go as far as ruining a different country just so that they could throw Kai off, so they must have a meeting and discuss how they’d handle the situation.“Are you okay?” Lorenzo asked, and Kai only sighed as he dropped the game pad, Shadow and Atticus were playing a different game, leaving Lorenzo and Kai with theirs.“I don’t know.” Kai responded as he felt the soul bond pulse again, he could tell that there was something strange going on, it was as though there was another

At first she’d thought that she could just power through, but she couldn’t.As slowly and quietly as she could because she knew that Kai was definitely going to worry if he knew that she went to the bathroom to vomit again right after telling him that she was fine.“What the hell is going on?” She thought to herself as she bent over the basin and vomited again, now her stomach felt empty and she felt like she was going to pass out at any time. Her head felt light, her legs weak as she slowly walked back to the bed and laid on it. Kai wouldn’t have it any other way, and Catherine was more than grateful for this moment with him.“I’m really glad we decided to do this.” Catherine said, her eyes closed as she rested against his chest, listening to the sound of his heartbeat as if it were a lullaby.“I know,” Kai responded, his hand resting on her stomach. The day had been so peaceful and playful that they didn’t even get the spare minute to think about anything other than them. The night plunged deeper into darkness, and the both of them didn’t want to fall asleep out of fear that it was all going to be over, but at the same time, they were both looking forward to a new day.The dimly-lit room echoed with the sound of pure silence and bliss that was also loud with worse that they didn’t need to say to each other. At a far distance, they could hear faint croaking and the chirping of birds that hadn’t quite called it a night ye

BACK AT THE GRANT ESTATE.“We can’t tell Kai about this, can we?” Atticus asked, and everyone was silent, neither of them were able to say anything as they stared at the paper in front of them. The silence was a little ominous, they could all feel the sense of foreboding, and it felt like whoever had sent that paper to the front of the Grant’s estate gate had been waiting for the perfect moment. There was a lot of time that they could have struck but for some reason, they had chosen now to send the letter and the day of the charity auction to strike.“Of course we can’t tell Kai,” Teresa responded finally, her voice bringing a halt to the silence as she crumpled the paper and dumped it in the trash with a sigh and a finger running through her hair.“But knowing Kai, there’s a high chance that he would find out even though we don’t say anything.” She sighed again, and even though she was trying to make sure that whatever was going to happen didn’t get to her, there’s no denying that it

“As long as I get to watch you enjoying yourself to your heart’s content, I’ll be alright.” He finished. Those words, as childish and little as they might seem, had hit her right in her chest. He was telling her that she could indulge as much as she wanted and he would always be there not to judge her, but to make sure she’s enjoying herself.“I was just kidding,” Catherine laughed, the butterflies in her stomach fluttering around. “If I ate that much, I’d weigh about 6 million pounds.” She laughed.Kai laughed too before his expression turned serious. “Then I’d have to train my arms and body so that I can lift you up anywhere.”Catherine was enjoying herself so much that she was starting to feel like she was doing something wrong. She laughed wholeheartedly, she was happy, and everything was going so well, until….“Oh, look who it is.” Catherine turned in the direction of the voice the moment she saw Kai’s happiness veered quickly to sadness and then anger. The switch was too quick.
