Jake smiled, utterly satisfied when he saw that Nora was going to listen to him and not get the police involved in the matter.

He was elated but it couldn’t help but notice the change in Nora’s demeanor, it was clear that she was worried about something and although he doesn’t really care, he wanted to appear nice to Nora.

“What’s going on in your mind, Sister Nora?” He asked, touching her shoulder as he got closer to her but rolling his eyes because he wished that she would just stop being a problem.

Even though Nora trusted and believed him, Jake only saw the Benson sisters as a pain. He didn’t care about any of them, all he cared about was the money they had.

“It’s just—” Nora sighed, her voice trailing off as she sat on the chair that Jake had led her to, “I’m worried about the gold bracelet that the bastard stole.” She added.

Jake knew the bracelet she was referring to. It was the same bracelet that he stole and sold off just so that he could get some money to pay off the loan sharks.

They’ve been after him and the last thing he wanted was for them to involve the Benson family because he hadn’t gotten what he wanted from them yet.

“That bracelet is really important,” Nora continued explaining, “it’s an important relic of my father, one that could connect to the mysterious family that had been supporting us behind the scenes.” She sighed.

“My father had made me swear that I wasn’t going to lose it no matter what but now that Kai has stolen it, I’m both worried and angry.” She added.

“What if he connected the dots and uncovered the secret of the bracelet and obtained the special medicine from that family to cure his illness completely?” She asked and Jake sighed.

“I mean, the family has always provided the secret medicine and now, if he uncovers the secret then he’s going to be healed.” Nora finished.

She was utterly worried because she didn’t want Kai to be healed no matter what, she wanted him to suffer and die from his illness but the truth was hidden from her.

Jake felt reassured because he knew that Kai didn’t steal the bracelet, a wicked smile secretly spread on his lips as he laughed internally.

Kai is really going to die from his illness.

The thought of it filled him with happiness but he wiped the smug smile off his face before his sister could see it and he rubbed her shoulder to ease her tension.

“Don’t worry, sister,” he said in an attempt to comfort his sister, “Kai is not that smart, he’s not going to connect the dots and if anything, he’s probably only going to sell the bracelet.”

“The family will contact us on their own since we lost our means of contacting them, they’ll find a way to get through to us.” He assured his sister.

Nora smiled as she nodded, she felt relieved after hearing Jake talk and in her mind, she was glad that she finally found her biological brother.

She agreed that Jake was right and even if Kai had miraculously contacted the family about the medicine, they wouldn’t give it to him.

“Thank you, Jake. You really are a nice person.” Nora smiled and Jake smiled back as he politely hugged her even though deep within him, all he could think about was how to extort more from the Benson family.

Kai had left the Benson family and returned to the Grant family. He stopped in his tracks when they got to the estate and his jaw dropped as he looked around.

He was stunned by the grandeur of the Grant family’s estate. He’s the sole heir of the family which means that this luxury also belonged to him!

He couldn’t believe his eyes, he had seen his own fair share of beautiful, spacious estate but the Grant’s family estate trumps it all.

“Well, this is probably the smallest of our assets,” Fabio’s voice jolted him out of his thoughts, “the Grant family’s assets spanned the globe.” Fabio explained.

“If we hadn't discovered that you might be in this city in recent years, we would never have moved to this small town.” He finished.

Kai’s mouth hung open wide and he was too amazed to close his mouth. He was amazed by the wealth of the Grant family.

“This. Is. Just. Amazing.” He said, his surprise showing in his voice and even though he tried so hard to maintain composure, he failed occasionally.

“Oh well,” Fabio laughed, “it’s nothing, really.” He added, brushing Kai’s compliment off as gently as he could because this was indeed one of their smallest properties.

“There are lots more that are more luxurious than this and you should also know that the largest company in the city, Rainbow Corporation, was a company that the Grant family had casually founded in recent years.” Fabio explained.

“What?!” Kai exclaimed but his voice remained low and cool. He was taken by surprise and of all the things that he was expecting, he wasn’t expecting that.

The Rainbow Corporation is incredibly large, unarguably the biggest in the city and even the Benson had been seeking cooperation with Rainbow, but the Benson family was too small for Rainbow to take seriously.

The only person that had managed to get into Rainbow corporation was Gina Murphy, Kai’s fiancée, she worked there.

“Alright, get comfortable and make yourself feel at home because you’re going to Rainbow tomorrow to take on the role of a secret CEO.” Fabio said, getting Kai’s full attention.

“Doing this will help you take over the family business while keeping your identity hidden and secretly investigate which family is plotting against you.” He finished.

“Yes, Sir,” Kai said firmly but Fabio only laughed and asked him not to be too formal because he’s Kai’s grandfather.

“Thank you, grandpa.” Kai smiled as they all walked into the house and Kai experienced maximum comfort.

Comfort like he’d never felt before and he felt anticipation building up inside him as he walked into his room to see everything in top shape and ready.

Sighing, he collapsed on the very comfortable bed and took in the sweet smell of the soft bed sheets. It’s been really long since he felt something so soft.

Closing his eyes, as the night plunged deeper into darkness, Kai was also plunged into an abyss of comfort as he fell asleep.

____________

Kai had woken up early and ready to take on anything and after thorough preparation, he was ready to go to Rainbow corporation.

He arrived at the Corporation lobby and called the number his grandfather had given him, it was the company’s general manager, Catherine.

“I’ll be there in five minutes Sir, I’m sorry for being so bold but if you could please wait for me.” Catherine said respectfully and Kai smiled.

“I’ll be waiting.” He responded and just when he dropped the call, he heard a familiar voice that was laced with disgust speak behind him.

“Why are you here?” The voice was heavy with hatred and Kai turned around in the direction of the voice to see who it was.

It was his fiancée, Gina.

Time sped up so fast as they all enjoyed their company, Kai was conflicted, he contemplated telling the guys about what had happened with Catherine, and what he saw last night, but at the same time he didn’t want to ruin the atmosphere.“Kai?” Lorenzo called when he noticed just how deep in thought that Kai had gotten. They’d also come to the conclusion that they were going to tell him though they didn’t yet know how to effectively tackle the situation. The irregulars are an awful bunch of creatures, and they would go as far as ruining a different country just so that they could throw Kai off, so they must have a meeting and discuss how they’d handle the situation.“Are you okay?” Lorenzo asked, and Kai only sighed as he dropped the game pad, Shadow and Atticus were playing a different game, leaving Lorenzo and Kai with theirs.“I don’t know.” Kai responded as he felt the soul bond pulse again, he could tell that there was something strange going on, it was as though there was another

BACK AT THE GRANT ESTATE.“We can’t tell Kai about this, can we?” Atticus asked, and everyone was silent, neither of them were able to say anything as they stared at the paper in front of them. The silence was a little ominous, they could all feel the sense of foreboding, and it felt like whoever had sent that paper to the front of the Grant’s estate gate had been waiting for the perfect moment. There was a lot of time that they could have struck but for some reason, they had chosen now to send the letter and the day of the charity auction to strike.“Of course we can’t tell Kai,” Teresa responded finally, her voice bringing a halt to the silence as she crumpled the paper and dumped it in the trash with a sigh and a finger running through her hair.“But knowing Kai, there’s a high chance that he would find out even though we don’t say anything.” She sighed again, and even though she was trying to make sure that whatever was going to happen didn’t get to her, there’s no denying that it

“As long as I get to watch you enjoying yourself to your heart’s content, I’ll be alright.” He finished. Those words, as childish and little as they might seem, had hit her right in her chest. He was telling her that she could indulge as much as she wanted and he would always be there not to judge her, but to make sure she’s enjoying herself.“I was just kidding,” Catherine laughed, the butterflies in her stomach fluttering around. “If I ate that much, I’d weigh about 6 million pounds.” She laughed.Kai laughed too before his expression turned serious. “Then I’d have to train my arms and body so that I can lift you up anywhere.”Catherine was enjoying herself so much that she was starting to feel like she was doing something wrong. She laughed wholeheartedly, she was happy, and everything was going so well, until….“Oh, look who it is.” Catherine turned in the direction of the voice the moment she saw Kai’s happiness veered quickly to sadness and then anger. The switch was too quick.
