Kai trembled with rage. "Damn the Benson family! I really thought they adopted me out of sincerity, but in the end..."
He had given everything for them!
Even after Jake returned to the family, Kai swallowed his pride and continued working tirelessly, all because the head of the Benson family—his adoptive father—had begged him to stay.
It was all a lie.
They didn’t keep him out of love or gratitude. They kept him under surveillance. Watching him. Watching for the mysterious family pulling the strings from behind the scenes.
Kai’s whole body shook. He had never imagined the truth to be so filthy.
"I... I have to go back. I will make the Benson family pay for this!" His blood boiled. He couldn't accept what had been done to him.
"Calm yourself, my grandson," Fabio said coldly. "I understand your anger—I share it. But now is not the time."
"Destroying the Benson family would be as easy as crushing an anthill, but if we do that, we will never uncover the true mastermind behind all this."
Even in his fury, Fabio remained rational.
Kai took a deep breath and steadied himself. "Then what do you suggest I do?"
Fabio smiled. "My child, though you are my grandson, I must still determine if you are worthy of inheriting the Grant family. Why not treat this as a test?"
"Your task is simple—punish every single person who has ever dared to hurt you. Make them regret everything they've done."
"And remember—find out who is behind the Benson family. They must learn that anyone who dares lay a hand on the heir of the Grant family will face utter destruction."
Fabio’s words reignited the fire in Kai’s heart. He had once been called a genius!
If not for the Benson family—if he hadn’t spent years silently working in the shadows for them—his achievements would have already shocked the world!
Kai turned his gaze to the thugs kneeling before him, a cold smile forming on his lips.
"Then… let's start with them."
The thugs trembled under Kai’s gaze. One of them desperately pleaded, "Please… spare us! We won’t work for that bastard Jake ever again!"
Kai sneered. "You won’t have the chance to work for him again."
"Revenge on the Benson family starts with you. You heard too many of our secrets—do you really think you’ll be allowed to walk away?"
One of the thugs was so terrified he nearly wet himself. "No… please…!"
Just then, his phone rang. He was too scared to pick it up.
Kai smirked and plucked the phone from his hand. The caller ID displayed a familiar name—Jake.
He chuckled and answered the call in front of the thugs.
"Hey, how did it go?" Jake’s arrogant voice came through. "Ah, never mind, what am I even asking? There’s no way you guys could mess up killing some sick bastard, right?"
"Sir…" Kai deliberately lowered his voice. "Do you know the owner of this phone? He and his crew got into a terrible car accident… They’re all dead."
The thug whose phone was taken looked as if he was about to cry, but he dared not make a sound.
"What?! A car accident?" Jake sounded startled. What the hell were those idiots doing?
"Were there any survivors? One of them should have an ID on him. His name is Kai Benson..." Jake wasn’t willing to leave things to chance. He had instructed them to stage an accident, to run Kai down and ensure he was dead.
Kai clenched his fists in fury but kept his voice calm and detached. "No, sir. If you have the time, you should head to the hospital and collect their bodies. The crash was… gruesome."
"Ugh…" On the other end, Jake nearly retched. "That’s none of my business! I don’t even know those guys!"
With that, he hung up in a panic.
Kai listened to the dial tone and shrugged. "Looks like you followed the wrong boss. He doesn’t give a damn about you."
The thug remained silent. Jake’s reaction had shattered whatever loyalty he had left.
Kai got to his feet and walked over to Fabio, replacing his cold expression with a bright smile.
"S-Sir! Please!" The leader of the thugs cried out in desperation. He didn’t want to die.
Kai turned to him with an icy gaze. "What?"
"C-Can we go?" The thug stammered, shaking all over.
"Go?" Kai smirked. "Oh, of course…"
"But I seem to recall saying that you all died in a car accident." His voice turned mocking. "I don’t like lying. Grandpa, can you make sure my words come true?"
Fabio was pleased by Kai’s ruthlessness. The Grant family needed an heir with this kind of resolve.
"Nico, you heard the young master," Fabio ordered coolly. "Arrange it. Make it look like a car accident. No survivors."
"Wait… A c-car accident… No, please, sir, have mercy!" The thug leader wailed.
But the black-clad Nico approached without hesitation, pulling out a cloth and stuffing it into the thug’s mouth.

The room fell silent, the air thickening as Teresa kept trying everything she could even though she was sure that she was already losing her energy. The memories, the uncontrollable mana had drained her energy and she knew that she might not succeed in bringing Catherine back but she was ready to die trying if that was what it was going to take.“I can’t let her be in this trancelike state for long and that’s why I’m going to try everything in my power, I’ll give it everything it takes, what I need from you guys is support.” She ordered.Lorenzo and Shadow shared a look, they both knew that her body was pushing its limit and they’re worried about her but she seemed hell bent on doing things her way.“Are you sure this is the right approach?” Lorenzo was the one who spoke, he had seen her gone bat shit insane, he was there and even now, if it wasn’t for Shadow, history would have repeated itself.“Then what do you propose we do? Wait for Fabio and Kai? Don’t you think that if Catherine

The storm inside her cracked open and Teresa could barely breathe as the only thing she let out was a scream that tore through the estate like a bolt of unholy lightning, and in that moment, her mana shattered its last thread of restraint. She was trembling, the room felt cold. Too cold even for her but she could barely leave, she was unable to help herself up and walk out of the room with Clarissa’s body still on the floor.“I KILLED HER. She’s dead because of me!” Teresa’s voice was sharp and sounded almost like a screech as she screamed, it was as though she was in over her head, as if she was going mad.Her eyes were so wide that her eyeballs looked like they were about to fall off the sockets and blood drew closer in each eye as Teresa screamed. The air trembled, the walls groaned and the floor beneath her pulsed with ancient inscriptions that hadn’t seen the light of day in centuries. Her body arched violently off the ground, hair fanning around her like an elemental crown, her

Meanwhile, Teresa, she could feel the stabilization and a sudden warmth engulfed her from within, she could almost feel how hard everyone was working when she couldn’t do anything. Her eyes had rolled so far back that she could feel it in her skull and even though she wanted it to stop, she wanted to snap out of this too and bring her mana under control, she couldn’t.“I have seen this before, how could I forget? How arrogant have I gotten?” She thought to herself as tears slipped down her cheeks and her mind drifted off to that day.It felt like a day like this, it was also raining on that day and an irregularity had happened, everyone had depended on her to do something and yet she had failed them.“I was training Catherine to be stronger, am I even strong myself?” She thought to herself as her head and mind replayed that day all over again.FLASHBACK.The air was too still and it was so creepy that it sent chills coursing down not just her spine but that of everyone else that had b

“Teresa, we need to get her out of it, I don’t know what’s going on but I’m guessing Kai is also involved, can you contact Fabio?” Atticus asked, his voice heavy with desperation.Teresa had almost given up trying to help Catherine because nothing she tried, nothing she did helped Catherine get back to herself and even her voice wasn’t getting through to her.Teresa’s eyes widened, fear was starting to override her brain even though she was doing everything in her power to not let it take control, she failed, her hands were shaking, her body was convulsing but not violently. She couldn’t see anything, the room had faded into a blur and there were noises in her head, too many noises, she could tell that someone was talking to her, giving her instructions but she couldn’t quite point out who that person was.The voices in her head were jumbled up and her eyes rolled back as sweat broke out of her face, dribbling down in buckets as though a dam had broken and her heart…. Catherine nodded, ready to obey Teresa as she felt the power drawing closer to her, she was reaching and it felt as though it was within reach as the thunder outside sounded distant.A warmth felt Catherine and it wasn’t the kind that was spooky, not the kind that made the hair at the back of her neck stand erect but the kind that soothed her.It was as though the power was listening to her, as if it was ready to do whatever she wanted, whatever she asked without even having to be ordered and Catherine felt a sense of accomplishment— breakthrough.“I’m doing it, Teresa. I’m doing it.” She said happily and Teresa didn’t say anything as she only nodded, beads of sweat clustered on Catherine’s forehead but she wasn’t running out of breath.Teresa could tell that she was wearing herself out and that was why she had gotten the healing magic ready until she was sure that Catherine no longer needed it.“Keep it still… hold on. Catherine felt physically, emotionally and also spiritually exhausted and a huge part of her was so grateful for the rain that had fallen because Teresa had insisted their training should be done outside.“The chambers despite how strong it is cannot withstand the power I want you to release today and I wouldn’t want to bring the house down.” Teresa had said to her.It felt as though she was in hell but despite how hellish and almost life threatening the training was, Catherine was grateful for it because it gave her the chance to not think about Kai.It’s been close to a week since Kai left and the house hadn’t been the same since him and Fabio’s absence but despite the ache in her heart for him, she kept herself together with the single thought of Kai coming back stronger.“I can’t be weak when he comes back. I can’t be in the same place he left me. I have to get stronger. Better too.” She would always say to herself, repeating the words over and over again as if it was some sort of
