Kai trembled with rage. "Damn the Benson family! I really thought they adopted me out of sincerity, but in the end..."

He had given everything for them!

Even after Jake returned to the family, Kai swallowed his pride and continued working tirelessly, all because the head of the Benson family—his adoptive father—had begged him to stay.

It was all a lie.

They didn’t keep him out of love or gratitude. They kept him under surveillance. Watching him. Watching for the mysterious family pulling the strings from behind the scenes.

Kai’s whole body shook. He had never imagined the truth to be so filthy.

"I... I have to go back. I will make the Benson family pay for this!" His blood boiled. He couldn't accept what had been done to him.

"Calm yourself, my grandson," Fabio said coldly. "I understand your anger—I share it. But now is not the time."

"Destroying the Benson family would be as easy as crushing an anthill, but if we do that, we will never uncover the true mastermind behind all this."

Even in his fury, Fabio remained rational.

Kai took a deep breath and steadied himself. "Then what do you suggest I do?"

Fabio smiled. "My child, though you are my grandson, I must still determine if you are worthy of inheriting the Grant family. Why not treat this as a test?"

"Your task is simple—punish every single person who has ever dared to hurt you. Make them regret everything they've done."

"And remember—find out who is behind the Benson family. They must learn that anyone who dares lay a hand on the heir of the Grant family will face utter destruction."

Fabio’s words reignited the fire in Kai’s heart. He had once been called a genius!

If not for the Benson family—if he hadn’t spent years silently working in the shadows for them—his achievements would have already shocked the world!

Kai turned his gaze to the thugs kneeling before him, a cold smile forming on his lips.

"Then… let's start with them."

The thugs trembled under Kai’s gaze. One of them desperately pleaded, "Please… spare us! We won’t work for that bastard Jake ever again!"

Kai sneered. "You won’t have the chance to work for him again."

"Revenge on the Benson family starts with you. You heard too many of our secrets—do you really think you’ll be allowed to walk away?"

One of the thugs was so terrified he nearly wet himself. "No… please…!"

Just then, his phone rang. He was too scared to pick it up.

Kai smirked and plucked the phone from his hand. The caller ID displayed a familiar name—Jake.

He chuckled and answered the call in front of the thugs.

"Hey, how did it go?" Jake’s arrogant voice came through. "Ah, never mind, what am I even asking? There’s no way you guys could mess up killing some sick bastard, right?"

"Sir…" Kai deliberately lowered his voice. "Do you know the owner of this phone? He and his crew got into a terrible car accident… They’re all dead."

The thug whose phone was taken looked as if he was about to cry, but he dared not make a sound.

"What?! A car accident?" Jake sounded startled. What the hell were those idiots doing?

"Were there any survivors? One of them should have an ID on him. His name is Kai Benson..." Jake wasn’t willing to leave things to chance. He had instructed them to stage an accident, to run Kai down and ensure he was dead.

Kai clenched his fists in fury but kept his voice calm and detached. "No, sir. If you have the time, you should head to the hospital and collect their bodies. The crash was… gruesome."

"Ugh…" On the other end, Jake nearly retched. "That’s none of my business! I don’t even know those guys!"

With that, he hung up in a panic.

Kai listened to the dial tone and shrugged. "Looks like you followed the wrong boss. He doesn’t give a damn about you."

The thug remained silent. Jake’s reaction had shattered whatever loyalty he had left.

Kai got to his feet and walked over to Fabio, replacing his cold expression with a bright smile.

"S-Sir! Please!" The leader of the thugs cried out in desperation. He didn’t want to die.

Kai turned to him with an icy gaze. "What?"

"C-Can we go?" The thug stammered, shaking all over.

"Go?" Kai smirked. "Oh, of course…"

"But I seem to recall saying that you all died in a car accident." His voice turned mocking. "I don’t like lying. Grandpa, can you make sure my words come true?"

Fabio was pleased by Kai’s ruthlessness. The Grant family needed an heir with this kind of resolve.

"Nico, you heard the young master," Fabio ordered coolly. "Arrange it. Make it look like a car accident. No survivors."

"Wait… A c-car accident… No, please, sir, have mercy!" The thug leader wailed.

But the black-clad Nico approached without hesitation, pulling out a cloth and stuffing it into the thug’s mouth.

Time sped up so fast as they all enjoyed their company, Kai was conflicted, he contemplated telling the guys about what had happened with Catherine, and what he saw last night, but at the same time he didn’t want to ruin the atmosphere.“Kai?” Lorenzo called when he noticed just how deep in thought that Kai had gotten. They’d also come to the conclusion that they were going to tell him though they didn’t yet know how to effectively tackle the situation. The irregulars are an awful bunch of creatures, and they would go as far as ruining a different country just so that they could throw Kai off, so they must have a meeting and discuss how they’d handle the situation.“Are you okay?” Lorenzo asked, and Kai only sighed as he dropped the game pad, Shadow and Atticus were playing a different game, leaving Lorenzo and Kai with theirs.“I don’t know.” Kai responded as he felt the soul bond pulse again, he could tell that there was something strange going on, it was as though there was another

Catherine laid on the bed, her eyes closed. Her stomach churned for a moment, and she felt the sodden urge to barf again. At first she’d thought that she could just power through, but she couldn’t.As slowly and quietly as she could because she knew that Kai was definitely going to worry if he knew that she went to the bathroom to vomit again right after telling him that she was fine.“What the hell is going on?” She thought to herself as she bent over the basin and vomited again, now her stomach felt empty and she felt like she was going to pass out at any time. Her head felt light, her legs weak as she slowly walked back to the bed and laid on it. She wanted to message Teresa, and talk to her about it, but she knew how Teresa would blow things out of proportion. And with the charity fair just around the corner, the last thing Catherine wanted was for Kai to fuss and worry about her for something that could potentially be nothing. The door flew open, and she tried to sit up but her b

Kai and Catherine spent the entire day just having fun and enjoying each other’s company. Kai wouldn’t have it any other way, and Catherine was more than grateful for this moment with him.“I’m really glad we decided to do this.” Catherine said, her eyes closed as she rested against his chest, listening to the sound of his heartbeat as if it were a lullaby.“I know,” Kai responded, his hand resting on her stomach. The day had been so peaceful and playful that they didn’t even get the spare minute to think about anything other than them. The night plunged deeper into darkness, and the both of them didn’t want to fall asleep out of fear that it was all going to be over, but at the same time, they were both looking forward to a new day.The dimly-lit room echoed with the sound of pure silence and bliss that was also loud with worse that they didn’t need to say to each other. At a far distance, they could hear faint croaking and the chirping of birds that hadn’t quite called it a night ye

BACK AT THE GRANT ESTATE.“We can’t tell Kai about this, can we?” Atticus asked, and everyone was silent, neither of them were able to say anything as they stared at the paper in front of them. The silence was a little ominous, they could all feel the sense of foreboding, and it felt like whoever had sent that paper to the front of the Grant’s estate gate had been waiting for the perfect moment. There was a lot of time that they could have struck but for some reason, they had chosen now to send the letter and the day of the charity auction to strike.“Of course we can’t tell Kai,” Teresa responded finally, her voice bringing a halt to the silence as she crumpled the paper and dumped it in the trash with a sigh and a finger running through her hair.“But knowing Kai, there’s a high chance that he would find out even though we don’t say anything.” She sighed again, and even though she was trying to make sure that whatever was going to happen didn’t get to her, there’s no denying that it

“As long as I get to watch you enjoying yourself to your heart’s content, I’ll be alright.” He finished. Those words, as childish and little as they might seem, had hit her right in her chest. He was telling her that she could indulge as much as she wanted and he would always be there not to judge her, but to make sure she’s enjoying herself.“I was just kidding,” Catherine laughed, the butterflies in her stomach fluttering around. “If I ate that much, I’d weigh about 6 million pounds.” She laughed.Kai laughed too before his expression turned serious. “Then I’d have to train my arms and body so that I can lift you up anywhere.”Catherine was enjoying herself so much that she was starting to feel like she was doing something wrong. She laughed wholeheartedly, she was happy, and everything was going so well, until….“Oh, look who it is.” Catherine turned in the direction of the voice the moment she saw Kai’s happiness veered quickly to sadness and then anger. The switch was too quick.
