Chapter 13 - Monster Manual : Trogen

Chapter 13 – Monster Manual : Trogen

“Ghou, time for you to demonstrate what you’ve got.”

Ghou stood alone in the room as he patiently waited for the transformation of the room

“I’m waiting,” Ghou shouted out to the room as the transformation seemed to be taking longer than the others. After waiting for what seemed to be five minutes, the room glitched into the sunny forest before it immediately transformed into a dark room.

“I think they are Mana exhausted, you know, it isn’t easy creating these realistic illusions.” Kiara interrupted the fading silence of the room as she watched the room glitch continuously. “Anyways, I think this will be all for now, tomorrow will be another day.”

“I didn’t even fight the monster.” Ghou said with a frown still staring at the pillar-filled room

“Well, it is not my fault. The others are already gone.”

“What about the book, the one from my… deceased parents.” Ghou reminded Kiara who ran out of the hall, into the throne room where she picked the book from Ghou’s seat

“Oh yeah, thank you.” Ghou who followed behind Kiara smiled before gently collecting the book from Kiara’s palm “I’ll be taking my leave now.”

Ghou laid lazily on the checkers’ bed of his sunlit bedroom, holding the strange book on top of his chest.

“Ahh. Time to read.” Ghou sighed staring at the plain golden hardcover of the book. After a while, he finally dug his fingers into the rust paper of the book, expecting the first page to fling open, but it remained stagnant.

“What is this.” Ghou immediately tried forcing the book open but it remained stagnant. “Why won’t this book just open.”

Ghou fell back to the bed exhausted before falling into a deep sleep.

 *****

Standing in front of the huge hall, Kiara gazed at the green pillars of the room that immediately began to transform into a forest of dead trees “Well, the Trogen is a type of monster that absorbs the life and Mana from plants and trees, leaving them in a morsel of dead trees.”

“The Trogen will not go more than a mile from its hidden lair. They are difficult to kill and yet are so terrific. These creatures could get aggressive when making eye contact so please steer clear of that.”

“Uhmm, interesting predators, they must have scared the hell out of the empire.” Ghou smiled gazing at the hall which had already transformed into a dusty forest

“Okay, Ghou you’ll be the first to fight this terrific.” Kiara invited Ghou into the room that looked cloudy with the appearance of thick specks of dust.

Ghou heaved a loud sigh as he walked into the illusion, drawing the silver rapier out of its sheathe as he kept his eyes wide open in search of the Trogen. It didn’t take long before he caught sight of the beast that crawled vastly into a random direction with the help of its underbelly while raising its head about 5 feet off the ground.

Slowly, Ghou crawled out of his hiding spot, walking vigilantly to the creature that ignorantly crawled ahead. Only a few meters away from the Trogen, Ghou readied his clear rapier ready to slice through the head of the beast. But just then the Trogen abruptly leaped behind Ghou, ready to plunge its metallic claws into his skin

“Aah, shit.” Ghou stumbled on his step, instantly raising his sword above his face as a means of defense. The Trogen, unable to retreat from its attack continuously flung his hands into the sword that easily sliced it into half.

With a roar the Trogen began to run helter-skelter throughout the woods, leaning its injured hands on every tree it came in contact with.

“Take that dumb beast.”

Ghou jumped off the ground with a bright smile as it watched the monsters settle down unto a bright green tree. But just then, he caught sight of the beast’s arm that was almost done with its regeneration, as well as the trees that began to fade from its bright colors into a dead brown one

“Hum, it’s not nice feeding on innocent trees to fulfill your evil.” Ghou stared in disappointment at the Trogen that gently relaxed on the tree “No wonder we were assigned to capture you.”

Ghou nodded his head in resentment, pointing to the creature whose eyes instantly flung open

“Hey, you’re in the middle of a fight here.” Ghou pointed out to the Trogen that stood upright from the tree, staring dagger at Ghou who puffed sparks of fire into his palm.

The Trogen instantly stood upright from the tree and charged at Ghou who instantly began to throw puff of fireballs, but the creature easily parried all of the attacks

“Oh-Uhm, I’m not going to waste my ability on this illusion.” Ghou sent multiple fire shurikens that stabbed unevenly into the thick flesh of the monster leaving small burning bruises that instantly spread into a lake of fire. Shortly after the scenario, the illusion died off.

Cheng cat-walked into the illusion with a smile as he sighted the beast waiting angrily in front of a huge tree

*Roar*

The Trogen charged powerfully toward Cheng whose body figure cloned into a total of five instantly putting the creature to a temporary halt as it decided on the real person

“Hey, I bet you can’t identify me.” Cheng alongside his four other Clones laughed swinging the combat dagger repeatedly to the air.

But it didn’t last long before the creature concluded, running vastly to Cheng who stood in awe, unable to process how the beast drew him out of the other.

The Trogen getting close enough to the stunned Cheng grabbed him by the neck ready to fling him into the further part of the woods. But the attempt was soon interrupted as it faded into thin air.

“Cheng, that was crazy you look so scared.” Ying laughed, drawing him out of his trance before pushing him out of the room to begin her training.
