Chapter 1

‘You will regret this.’ Dexter recalled ignoring his friend’s warnings before proceeding into the building.

“How much do you need?”

“Just a million dollar. I’ll pay you in two days.” Dexter replied. And from that day, his life didn’t just become a nightmare, it changed forever!

Dexter brushed the dead flowers from his mother’s grave, and carefully placed the fresh ones in his hands as he gently wiped his eyes.

He wasn't just tearing up because his mother hasn't gotten justice for her death, he was also tearing up because his mother died out of his foolishness. At least that's what his friends told him, but as long as Clara is still with him, a part of him was contented and determined to deal with everyone who treated him inhumanly.

Three years ago, Clara, Dexter's beloved girlfriend, had a kidney failure. She was dying and her family were in dire need of a kidney donor. Not that they couldn't afford it, they were on a wait list, and the longer they waited, the more dangerous it was for Clara to survive.

Dexter was in the hospital day and night, watching it over her. The pain, the countless seizures, the tears, all she went through stirred up something in him that he took the bold decision of donating his left kidney to save her life.

I mean, they had been dating since the first year of school, and they worked at the same company. They were almost inseparable. He couldn't just watch her die.. Only, that decision changed his life forever.

His kidney wasn't a match with hers, so it was a failed transplant. With his kidney gone, that was the beginning of his problems as having just one left sent Dexter into coma.

His body was too weak to function without his other kidney, which was rare, because situations like this could be managed but that wasn't Dexter's case.

Elena, his mother panicked and couldn't watch her son die, so she gave hers up for him without his knowledge. A month went by, and when he woke up, he was told his mother was in a critical condition and was having a heart failure due to her age. They had warned her against giving up her kidney for her son, but she insisted.

His bills went over £900 thousand. He had a few hours to pay or his mother would die. This was all new to him as he just woke up, so he ran to Clara and her family for him, but their house was empty since they went to India for Clara's proper treatment.

He was pressured by the hospital, tired and worried about his mum that he decided to get a loan from Fibonacci, the loan shark and most dangerous lord of a deadly syndicate.

Fibonacci gave him just a year to pay back the £900 thousand, and when Dexter pleaded for more time as he couldn't raise such amount, Fibonacci stormed into his mother's ward and pulled the life support on her, leaving her dead before the doctor could help.

And now? He was left still paying the hospital bills of his dead mother, and also paying Fibonacci’s monthly payments till he covers it all up.

You could ask if he regrets ever making that decision… But he couldn't say…

Fibonacci was the most dangerous man in the country. He was above the law, and one couldn't just get access to him whenever they wanted… if not… Dexter would be taking that old monster straight to hell. Even lieutenants in the country were on his side. Not even the cops dared to go against him.

“I know I say this every time I come here but I promise you, mum… Everyone involved in your death will feed on their flesh while you watch.” Dexter bit his lower lip, his eyes filled with determination and pain. “They will tremble at my very feet.”

Fibonacci killed her because he could do anything and not be questioned, everyone who contributed to his mother's death is going to pay. He doesn't care where they are hiding, he's going to fish them out.

Buzz!

His phone beeped!

Dexter sighed after reading the text then he left. It was 6pm, time for him to start his part time job as a delivery guy. Each time he was done with his corporate job, Lucas, his regular customer could always call.

Well, anything to get a good pay at the end of the month.

Soon, he arrived at the door and Lucas’ face greeted him when the door went open.

“He's your tip.” Lucas squeezed 10 bucks into his pocket before collecting his pizza.

“I do appreciate this, sir.” Dexter bowed slightly.

“Babe! Hurry, I'm still wet!” A fair lady walked up to Lucas, wrapping her hands around his neck as if to pull him back into the room.

“Clara?” Dexter's mind went blank for a second.

She had just her bra on, and a shot glass in her hand and her gaze on Lucas was sexual!

“Dexter? What are you doing here?” Clara was as stunned as Dexter, who placed his palm over his mouth to cover it out of shock as if trying to grasp what was happening.

“Ah, don't tell me this is that useless ex you always tell me about.” Lucas chuckled, his hands grabbing Clara fat ass as if to spite Dexter, which it fucking did!

Dexter was frozen to the spot, and his heart broke into a million pieces as his eyes never left Clara's.

“Ex?” Dexter's lips quivered. Has she been telling Lucas he was her ex?

“Why? Haha! She didn't tell you she has a boyfriend?” Lucas laughed mockingly.

Dexter’s heart stopped.

He almost could not believe his ears. He was more shocked because Lucas was a known playboy throughout their company. He had delivered several packs of condoms to him, so he could earn a few extra bucks in this same apartment!

He had numerous side chicks but of all people, he decided to make Clara his main girlfriend?!

Clara parted her lips, “Lucas is right, Dexter. Don't pretend like we didn't break up weeks ago.”

“Break- break up? I… I gave you my kidney…” Tears welled up in Dexter's face as he said those words. He knew It was foolish to say out of the blue but he hoped that it could bring her back to her senses. Perhaps she had forgotten the mess he's currently in was because of the love he has for her.

‘Weeks ago?’ He didn't even realize they had broken up until now… when did that happen? She told him she loved him last night!

“Come Clara, I prepared a good pasta for you.. I know it's your favourite. I'll even take you to the amusement park… don't do this, I beg you on my mother's life…” Dexter tried to pull her close but Lucas yanked his hands off.

“You're so desperate! Now you're reminding her of the sacrifices you made when you were together? That was three years ago!” Lucas barked, pushing Dexter to the ground, causing the people inside the room to rush out.

Apparently, they were playing truth or dare, and since Lucas was dared to fuck Clara twice, they had been waiting for him to go the next round.

Dexter's eyes changed that he angrily threw a punch at Lucas!

“Are you out of your mind, Dexter?!” Clara shouted, holding Lucas back from retaliating.

“How dare him come here!”

Clara's friends started murmuring, cussing Dexter with a disdainful look when they heard Lucas' side of the story.

“You don't expect her to remain loyal forever just because of a kidney!”

“It’s not like she owes him anything! Didn’t she travel to India for a proper transplant?”

“Yeah, after all, it's not like she used his kidney anyway!”

Dexter stood there, lost in a daze, his body trembling with pain and shock as he blinked back the tears threatening to fall. He was hurt… truly hurt and shattered. This betrayal crushed him to the very core.

“In case I didn't make it clear, I, Clara Sinclair is no longer your girlfriend! You aren't worth my affection and I'm tired of pretending I'm not materialistic. Lucas is my man, and since you're going to be a hindrance to our love, you should get out!” She shouted at him in disgust.

“You heard her! You're not worthy of having her!!” Madison, Clara's friend laughed and the rest joined her in mocking Dexter, whose body was still shaking in disbelief.

Lucas had been fucking his girl! “Materialistic? But I provided your needs!” He almost cried.

He stays hungry most times just to provide her basic needs and never for once has he asked for anything in return.

She doesn't even allow him to hold her hand except that she was in a good mood. Why was life this horrifying, and brutal to him?

“Why were you even in a relationship with such a poor dog?!” Madison asked, twisting her face.

Clara rolled her eyes like it was a nightmare for her to go through, “Honestly, I was only doing it out of pity. Pity for his kidney even if the transplant failed, and I didn't use it. Even if his kidney a waste, the sacrifice was a lot, and it led to his mother's death. You know what they say 'it's the thought that count..” She explained.

“I bet he's crying not because he loves you, but because of that ordinary kidney he gave out! Haha!” Lucas laughed.

The mocking laugh from these people broke Dexter’s heart even more.

They had been dating for five years, and she's saying this like it meant nothing? His mother died because of it!

Perhaps his friend was right.. he probably was the biggest fool in love, and he accepted it.

He couldn't tell which was more painful, this sudden break up, or their mocking remarks on his efforts on saving her and killing his mum in the process.

Perhaps if he never tried to give her his kidney, his mum will still be alive and he'll not have all these problems with Fibonacci threatening his life.
