Kieran Raze slowly walked toward Soren, each step measured and deliberate as his polished boots struck the marble floor. There was something unsettling about the way he moved, as though he had already decided how Soren would die and was merely walking toward the place where it would happen. His cold eyes traveled over Soren from head to toe before settling on his face, and a faint smile appeared on his lips.“You have a rather sharp face,” Kieran said calmly. “It is a shame to destroy something like that, but I suppose there is nothing I can do about it. I was hired to kill you, and everyone has to earn a living somehow.”Several people around the hall exchanged uneasy glances, but Soren remained completely still. He had faced men far more dangerous than Kieran on battlefields where one mistake meant death, so the killer's attempt at intimidation did little more than confirm what Soren had already suspected. Behind him, however, Lucus's body tensed, and his hand instinctively moved to
kill him for me!
Bang!Anderson's old woman hands slammed against the table.Several guests flinched, and the glasses on the table trembled from the impact. She slowly rose from her seat, her eyes fixed on Soren with an anger that made the entire hall feel colder.“You really have changed,”“When you were a child, you knew your place.”Her eyes traveled over Soren's military uniform.“You were nothing more than a boy brought into this family because your parents were dead. Chadwick gave you food, shelter, and the Anderson name when you had nowhere else to go.”Soren's expression did not change. The matriarch's voice became colder.“And now you return after ten years wearing a military uniform and believe that makes you important enough to stand in my house and threaten my family?”“You have forgotten something, Soren. This is not the battlefield, and I am not one of your soldiers. Inside this estate, your military rank means nothing. If I decide you leave this house in a body bag, nobody here will que
I want the truth
Creg, One of the Anderson siblings suddenly stepped forward, his face twisted with contempt.“I always knew you were nothing but a lowly bastard, Soren, but I never expected you to return after ten years and act as though you were someone important.”He glanced toward Luther before continuing.“And whatever happened to that useless blind man, Charles, has nothing to do with you anymore. He's dead. The family has already buried him, so why are you still digging into his death?”Soren's expression remained cold.Creg stepped closer, clearly emboldened by the support of the other Anderson family members.“Look around you. This family has already chosen its heir. Luther is the one who matters now. Charles was weak, useless, and incapable of doing anything for the Anderson family. You should have stayed away instead of coming back here and causing trouble.”Several Anderson siblings nodded in agreement.Cyrus sneered. “He's right. You were nothing more than an outsider whom Grandfather too
Anderson's Bastard
Martha stepped forward and blocked Soren’s path. “You’re not going anywhere,” she said coldly. “Leave the Anderson Estate immediately.”Soren stopped. Martha looked at him without the slightest warmth. “Charles is dead. Whatever reason brought you here, you should stop digging into the past. He is already gone.”Soren’s eyes turned cold. “Shut up.”Martha froze. Soren slowly looked at her. “You don’t deserve to say his name.” His voice was quiet, but the anger behind it made the surrounding guests fall silent. “You were Charles’s personal maid. You were supposed to stay beside him and protect him.” He took a step forward. “But you failed.”Martha’s face changed. “My brother was blind. He trusted the people around him because he had no choice.” Soren’s gaze became colder. “And now he’s dead.” He stared directly into Martha’s eyes. “So don’t stand in front of me and speak his name as if you have the right.”Martha’s lips trembled slightly, but she quickly regained her composure. “You ha
Anderson's Estate
The ride to the Anderson Estate was quiet. The roads gradually changed from crowded city streets to a private district surrounded by carefully trimmed green hedges and tall stone walls. Marble statues stood along both sides of the road, while expensive lights illuminated the entrance to the properties. At the end of the road stood a pair of enormous gilded iron gates.Soren stared at them through the window. He remembered those gates.Ten years ago, he had left this place carrying a military bag on his back while Charles stood behind him, desperately trying to follow the vehicle. Now he was finally back. But Charles was no longer waiting for him behind those gates. The Jeep slowly passed through the entrance and continued toward the main courtyard. The Anderson Estate appeared ahead, larger than Soren remembered. The mansion stood in the center of the enormous property, looking more like a royal palace than a private residence. It was one of the four great family houses in Westland an
Charles Death
Behind Soren, a burly man finished a phone call. Lucus Bennett. Dressed plain, but the way he stood made it obvious he wasn’t just some regular bodyguard.Soren didn’t turn around. “Did you find out what was used on Charles?”“Yes, sir.” Lucus’s voice went serious. “Our people got the investigation records. Traced the substance on the body. Hydrogen peroxide.”Soren’s eyes narrowed a little. “Hydrogen peroxide?”“Yes, sir. Concentration was extremely high. Not the kind people keep at home. It degraded the bones badly. Some parts of the remains had almost broken down. That’s one reason the investigators had so much trouble identifying him. DNA was compromised too. The lab had to work with whatever little biological material was left before they could confirm it was him.”Soren stayed quiet. His eyes stayed on Charles’s tombstone.“Any suspects?” he asked.Lucus shook his head. “Not yet. We checked every lead we could find. Whoever did this was careful. All the CCTV around where the bod
