Kane froze on the spot, Isadora's request hanging in the air like a threat despite the soft and polite way she had pronounced it. Kane turned to her slowly, his expression a mask surprise.

Isadora on the other hand folded on the bed, her legs angled to her chest and arms wrapped around it like jelly whip, her body trembling slightly as though immediately Kane left her side, she catch a cold.

Kane observed her behavior, the surprise still evidence on his face. The words sounded sweet strange like a haunting rhythm he had tried to forget in his memory.

Hesitation flickered in his eyes as a memory struck like a bullet— Juliana had come home that night, bleeding tears as she entered the house. She was grieving for her loss. It was that night she lost her mother in a ghastly accident and that also her saloon was grazed down by a fire outbreak.

She cried and cried on Kane's shoulder. He was her comfort, her spine when she lost one and almost lost herself.

    The velvet bed sheet rustled, wrinkling under her as she continued to struggle in her sleep, thrashing her body.
