FROM BANKRUPT TO BOSS

“You're fired!!”

The manager of the Global bank barked, throwing a letter to Kane's chest.

"What?!"

Kane gasped, his eyes wide in shock. He picked up the letter at his feet, the paper rustling as he opened it and the heading hit him like a physical slap.

Sack letter.

"What..what is happening, Sir?" His voice cracked. He looked into the paper again, reading the article.

There— in black ink were crimes he didn't commit listed in fine handwriting and cruel signature.

"Customer extortion, unsatisfied service, persistent complaints from customers.."

Kane blinked in shock.

He shook his head frantically, unable to understand what was happening.

"I didn't do any of these...these are false accusations, Sir.."

Badmus Kent, the manager leaned forward, his expression cold.

"Are you questioning my authority now?" He growled, "Get the hell out of my office before I call the cops on you, filthy cooperate bug."

"Sir.."

"Are you mad!!" The manager slammed his palm against the desk, his eyes darkening with fury. "Don't make me repeat myself again."

Kane didn't move. He had struggled for two years while being jobless even when he had passed out from college with all As. He was a bright student but reality rub filth on him. He managed to get a job as a cash teller officer. Now he was getting fired, framed for crimes he was innocent of.

Kane slammed the paper to the desk. His finger Jabbed to his chest.

"I worked for this organization for five fucking years! Five years!" His voice rose with anger and frustration. "I worked my ass off every day, bled through the night to finish accounting and I did everything to maintain every single protocol. Is this what I get for my loyalty!?!"

Badmus stare at him hard, the corner of his eyes twitching in anger.

"Are you talking back at me?" His voice rose, "you think you matter? You think because you scrub after us we'll give you a throne when you have in reality you've an incompetent with your job?!"

"You think you're smart but you're just a dumbass, Kane."

He fired and Kane saw the flicker of something in his eyes. Jealousy.

Kane narrowed his eyes on him and then let out a sharp bitter laugh.

"Really? You're firing me because you feel threatened? Because I work harder than anyone else here?"

"Get the hell out of my office!" Badmus snapped, his finger snapped to the door. "Now! Or I'll have the Securities drag your ass out!!"

Kane gritted his teeth, his nails digging into the sack letter, scrunching it in tight grip.

His heart ached.

He was angry, frustrated and bitter.

But this was the only job surviving him. If he lost this job, what would his fiancee say about him especially today that he was planning to propose to her.

He took a deep breath, forcing away his anger.

"Mr. Kent, please..I struggled before I could get this job," his voice was pleading. "If I lose it now, I'll be in the street. Please I'll do everything to salvage all the complaints. I'll work harder."

Harder?

Kane was already at the peak. He is always the first to arrive for work, he's consistent, even putting other staff members'work with his own.

Mr. Badmus snickered. "You're messing up my office," he sneered, "get the hell out." His hand reached for the telephone.

Kane's eyes were glazed with tears that he held back from falling.

"What about severance payment...and it's already ending today.. shouldn't I get my salary?"

"You're getting nothing! Your money has been used to pay the debt you owe the bank!" Badmus spat.

Kane's throat burned like acid, his world crumbling back to square one before his eyes.

"What.."

"Get lost!!"

Kane turned. His feet were jelly. He carried his weight to the door, the sack letter burning in his pocket like acid. He opened the door and walked out while his career crumbled behind him.

As he walked out to the desk to grab his stuff, the noises in the banking hall faded in his ear. He leaned over the desk, grabbing his things while forcing back tears that stubbornly rolled down from his eyes.

He let out a Sharp bitter laugh.

Working five years as a cash officer, he poured all his efforts into satisfying customers with every service, abiding by every rule and regulations the organization laid down without breaking any.

All his efforts and struggles had crumbled without warning.

His mind raced with dreadful questions that he couldn't give an answer to.

Where would he start all over from in this city that doesn't favour a common man?

What would his fiancee, Juliana say?

His co-worker, Hart was saying something which he didn't register and bothered to ask again.

He grabbed his briefcase and turned, walking out of the bank.

The breeze outside hit his face like a physical blow.

He dragged his feet through the sweltering street, the noises echoing in the distance. He continued to walk without knowing how his leg was moving because his weight felt heavier than lead.

Thinking about everything he'd faced, the times he'd survive on ramen throughout three months, the nights he'd gone to bed with just water in his belly.

He's given this job everything he got and yet he was called incompetent and disposed of like trash.

He planned to take his relationship with his fiancee to the level today but isn't this bad luck? Losing his job on the day he planned a marriage proposal?

His thoughts spiralled around his life as he walked on like he was lost in the world.

Tears rolled down his eyes thinking about every rejection, every odd job he'd done just to survive for the next day, every time people looked at his certificate and simply acknowledged his brilliance without taking a chance on him.

SCREECHES!

Six expensive cars rolled to a stop along the curb— black, each of them gleaming under the light and throwing light across that immediately caught the attention without asking.

Passersby stopped to watch, some already people pulled out the phone, videoing the fleets and gasping in awe, the hum of murmuring filled the air.

"Aren't those the latest Maybach s680? Holy shit! Six of them?"

"I heard just one of those cars cost a million. This is extravagant!"

Kane also stopped to look.

Then a sharp broken laughter escaped his lips seeing the expensive rides which were in contrast to his ugly life.

He had always wanted a car. But it had always been a dream and it remained as such.

Before his eyes, the door of the cars swung open in sync and several men wearing immaculate blacks stepped out at once, their loafers clicking the tarmac sharply.

The murmuring increased.

"Who are these men?"

Lastly, a Man wearing a crisp white suit and clean polished charcoal loafers stepped out, he tugged the hem, and straightened his back.

The then man moved. The bodyguards flanked him behind, their loafers clicking sharply on the tarmac collectively.

They were marching in Kane's direction.

His heart skipped.

Then it began to race.

Maybe Badmus had sent these men to arrest him. Trouble. This is trouble.

His Knuckles whitened around the handle of the briefcase, his face panic stricken and his legs were already shaking, screaming at him to run.

The men stood in his front.

At once, all of them bowed, their back flattened to their waist.

"Young Master Everest, we greet you!!"

They chorused!

Kane's jaw dropped.

"What the hell is happening?"
