Start of the Event

The sunlight poured through the window. Another day dawned, bringing with it new hopes and aspirations.

Sadly, this day wasn't going to be filled with hopes and aspirations, but with hopelessness and despair.

Watching from the windows of my room, I saw people scurried here and there, some going to their work, some basking in the sunlight, children playing in the garden and cleaners cleaning the area.

Many people were going to die today, many families were going to get destroyed, children will lose their parents, mothers will lose their children, but I felt nothing, I couldn't stop this calamity myself, not that I would even if I could, Unless of course saving these people would be beneficial to me.

All that mattered to me were my goals and the well-being of the people I care about.

I was just thinking about this when suddenly!, a wave of mana came from the sea and spread throughout the city.

The wave was a very small one and Slayers below rank E wouldn't have been able to detect it, but I know that Sylvia might have felt it because of her superpower and high mana sensitivity.

Jumping outside of the window and using the pipes as a support I made my way to the roof of the building in 3-4 seconds.

Standing on the roof that gave a clear view of the sea without any obstructions, I took out my binoculars and put them in front of my eyes.

There were no Monsters visible to the naked eyes even with the binoculars, but the Monsters weren't supposed to appear above the water, they were called sea monsters for a reason.

Focusing a little more, I saw the movement on the surface of the sea that was approaching the shore with an incredible speed.

This was all the confirmation I needed.

Jumping down from the roof, I parkour my way towards the window of my room, got in and rushed towards Sylvia's appartment.

Already aware of the situation that was going to happen today, I had packed up my bags last night, so no time was wasted there.

~knock! knock!

" Who's there ? " Sylvia asked, still in her genderless voice.

" Its me Sylva, hurry open up" I spoke in a way that makes the ' worry ' and ' urgent ' situation clear in my tone.

~click!

Opening the door, she tilted her head sideways and spoke with a confused face : "What happen! ?, Why are you in such a hurry "

" No time to explain, quickly pack up your bags and come with me, Its not safe here anymore." I tried to hold her hands but she quickly pulled them back and instead caught my hands.

' Of Course, I allowed her to do so '

" Why ? come inside first and tell me what happend " She spoke and pulled me in her house.

This was my first time in her apartment as yesterday when we came back, it was too late at night.

Walking in, what came in my view was a similar looking appartment as mine but this one had more cracks on the walls, and the paint was almost inexistent.

In the room where Sylvia took me, I saw an old looking middle aged lady was lying down on the bed. Anyone can tell at the first glance that she was sick and probably near the end of her life.

" Who was on the door dear ? " Her mother asked as soon as sylvia entered the room.

" Mother, this is Noah, the one I told you about yesterday."

" Let me take a look, oh! what a handsome young man *cough* cough*. My name is Alice, its good to see the first friend of my da-"

"mother!"

Before Alice could complete her words Sylvia intervened stopping her mother's blunder, then she looked at me, seeing my 'clueless' appearance and that I was still worried about something, she took a breath of relief.

" ohh~sorry I misspoke, I really am happy to see my son's friend ". Aunty Alice corrected her mistake and spoke.

" It's nothing much, I really do wanted to be good friends with this guy, he has this comfortable aura around him." I spoke with sincerity dripping down my words, but then my face suddenly got serious and I continued,

" Aunty, I really want to sit here and have a long chat with you all, but sadly we got no time on our hands. A big Monster tide is comming towards this city and we need to leave now or we would all be killed "

Hearing my words and looking at my serious face they realised that I wasn't joking around with them.

~ Rumble!

Dust fell from the walls and ceiling, The whole building shook as another Mana wave suddenly spread throughout the city, Bringing an earthquake with it.

But this time it was much bigger than the previous one and I knew that it was a clear indication that the seal on the ruins had been undone.

" Mother, I believe Noah. We should leave " Sylvia spoke, but this wasn't all because of her trust on me, but she also realized the danger. The little doubt she was having after feeling the first wave of mana was turned into absolute confirmation after hearing my words and feeling the second mana wave.

" But where would we go now if this city is in danger ".

Alice also agreed with her daughter's words and was already thinking ahead for future, which was definitely a good thing.

" We are leaving this city as fast as we can. We have to cross the borders and reach atleast the Loran City. "

Hearing my words they both nodded their head and Sylvia quickly ran to pack the necessary items.

" Noah, if you don't mind me asking what rank of Slayer are you "

~*cough cough*

As soon as Sylvia left the room, Alice asked while coughing a bit, she might be thinking of leaving her daughter with me, she knew her condition well and maybe having doubts of surviving today.

" I haven't officially made my Slayers license yet but I have recently leveled up to a D- Slayer. I would like if aunty Alice doesn't speak about this to anyone. "

" Don't worry dear, I understand. Then let me ask you something, and please be honest with me. I know that you have already realized the truth by now. There's no way a D- rank Slayer didn't see through it."

Aunt Alice spoke and looked me in my eyes, trying to read through my expressions, but finding nothing negative she nodded her head and continued,

" I don't know your intentions but Sylvia trust you and you look to be a good person. Take care of my Sylvia for me. She is an innocent girl and has lived a very tough life till now. I just want her to be happy, Would you promise the old lady this much "

She said and held my hand tightly, at the end of her words she was on the verge of crying.

She was an old experienced woman who had seen the world. She realized everything, and she also knew that if I had any ill intentions toward her daughter, a strong Slayer like me doesn't need to waste my time playing these games with her daughter.

But being a mother she couldn't be sure anyway, I was a stranger to them as she didn't know me and Sylvia had only met me yesterday. So being a helpless mother all she could do was beg for the well-being of her daughter.

Watching her made even my ice cold heart melt a little.

I knelt down beside her bed, held her hands tightly and spoke with sincerity.

" Yes,... I would not lie to you Aunty. I had already known the truth since I first saw her. I fell in love with her at first sight. I know it sounds absurd but that is the truth, her eyes look like my late mother, those kindness in them couldn't be replicated by anyone. I promise you I would never let her be unhappy and even put my life on the line if it means that she could be happy, I will prove it to you, not with words but with my actions. "

" Thank you Dear, I am glad hearing that. "

My sincere words seemed to have given her agitated heart a relief.

After that I helped Aunty Alice stand up from her bed and Slyvia was also done with the packing by then.

" Give me your luggage, I will put them in my storage rings "

Sylvia obediently handed all the luggage to me and we all left the building.

Coming outside, all we saw was chaos. Someone had already informed people about the monsters comming from the sea and people were running here and there, trying to find a safe place to hide untill the Slayers come to rescue.

Now that I think about it, Sylvia didn't mention about staying here and wait for the Slayers, that means she trusted me and my judgement about the situation and decided to follow me.

This was definitely a good news for me.

" Noah wait! we need to tell these people to leave the city too, if the danger is that big."

Sylvia said and stopped me by holding my hands.

" But we would be wasting time Sylvia, we didn't even know if we could even reach the borders before the monsters reach us. "

Sylvia gritted her teeth and looked to be in distress, she knew her request was selfish and irrational but I knew that she was a kind hearted girl who couldn't allow people to die, and run away herself without even warning them.

" Okay go warn them, let me help you too but please do it quickly "

I sighed and finally allowed her to do as she wish, and the surprise was evident on her face as she didn't expected me to allow her.

" Thank you Noah ".

She smiled brightly at me and run away to warn people about the calamity that was about to befall on them and I too went with her to help.

" Why, why aren't they listening to me ? ".Sylvia came back with a dejected face.

She couldn't believe that not even a single person was ready to leave and instead they reprimanded her for spreading false rumor.

" They would not listen to you, humans are innately selfish, greedy, and ingnorant. They can't be like you and aunt and leave this place, they will stay here with their houses and trust some strangers to protect them, But they didn't know that the Delvon city doesn't have any high ranking Slayers. "

I said and pulled Sylvia, and didn't allow her to go again this time.

Slyvia tried to get free but the strength she used was negligible. She was having an inner fight with herself to go help or to not go.

Finally she decided to not go, I also patted her back and supported her decision.

After that we all took a taxi and I paid extra money to the Driver and just asked him to reach the Loran city border as fast as he can.

The driver also got serious by watching our faces, he stepped on the peddle with force and the car accelerated with full speed.
