Henry took the lunchbox from Mrs. Mason, he wondered why she wanted him to deliver the lunchbox to her husband, she could always enter the company, after all, her husband was the CEO.

He saw a strange look on her face, it was as if she had a fight with someone, or maybe she mistakenly fell on the floor. Henry threw the thought away as he entered the warehouse back. Why should he be worried about other people problems, especially rich people, right now, he needed money to feed his family and to enroll into the Mage academy, that is all that matters to him now, not somebody else problems.

Henry opened the door without knocking, and he immediately regretted.

His eyes shot up seeing the scene before him. Lilly, his co-worker was sitting on Mr. Mason's laps, and they were kissing.

His entrance stopped them and Lilly quickly retraced her movement, but Henry saw it all. She stared at Henry with frighten looks and quickly escaped through door immediately.

Mr. Mason's bloodshot eyes met with Henry eyes, wondering what to say to the kid for ruining his blossom fantasy.

“Leave”

He finally said something with a cold yet calm voice.

Henry quickly obeyed, he hurried out of the room and headed to his duty post at once. The scene was still fresh in his head and his heart was pounding heavily. he couldn't believe what he just witnessed, he doesn't blame Lilly, she came from a family much poorer than his, and she didn't awaken any magical elements, in a world where magic was almost everything. Having magic alone gratitudes a stable life, and a chance to become one of the most wealthy people in the world, if wealthy was the target.

For someone like her who didn't awaken any elements, it's normal for her to take this path to success, he only wished that he didn't get to witness the scene.

He knew what was coming next, Mr. Mason was definitely going to fire him, if he was lucky enough he would only be threatened.

Henry prays for the second, he didn't want to lose this job, if he loses this job, he won't be able to enter the Mage academy, and his family's future depends on it.

Being a mage was the fastest way to become rich, entering the Mage school was free for everyone that have awakened their elements, but people with lower class must pay to enter, the school takes them as a burden and more responsibilities to cater to.

If he loses his job, he wouldn't be able to afford the academy f*e and that would mean the end of the world for him.

Henry continued to think about his future when somebody tapped him on his shoulder.

“Henry”

He gazed back seeing it was his best friend, Jeremy, he quickly hoped it wasn't Mr. Mason calling, and it turned to be Mr. Mason.

“Mr. Mason wants you in his office”

Jeremy muttered.

“I think it's about that promotion, congratulations Henry. Your dreams will finally come true”

Henry managed to pull a fake smile, if only Jeremy knew what the calling was through a about. He was expecting a promotion but that certainly wasn't the case now, was it. He was about to embrace his worst nightmare.

He got to Mr. Mason office and knocked thrice on the door before Mr. Mason finally voiced out, granting him permission to enter.

Henry entered with straight posture straight, not daring to lose Mr. Mason in the eyes, Henry eyes quickly moved to the ground.

Mr. Mason didn't waste time on his end, he simply looked at Henry.

“Henry, you are fired. I don't want to see you in this company again, AND. No pay check for you this month”

Henry quickly collapsed to his knees before Mr Mason finished.

“Please sir, I swear I won't tell anyone. I won't dare. I swear”

Mr. Mason paused to look at Henry. Henry got this job through his wife's recommendation, his wife was a close friend of his mother, how then could he trust somebody like that and besides, this isn't how he intend to keep this a secret.

“You can leave when you're done with this rubbish you are doing”

Henry heart missed a beat when he heard that. He tried to process the words but he couldn't. His dreams were scattering to pieces and there was nothing he could do.

What was he going to tell his parents, they bank all their hopes on him, he needed that money.

“Sir, I have awakened my magical element, my wages are for the academy fees, I really need the money. I swear I won't tell anyone. This is how important this job is to me”

Henry was shivering on the floor, stating how important the job was to him, he believed Mr. Mason will pity him, what does he care if Mr. Mason was cheating on his wife. Mr. Mason was rich, while him on the other hand needed to work to feed his family.

Seeing Mr. Mason was silent, Henry believe he must've been thinking about his judgement earlier. He not only was good at his job, he was an awakening, his power would be used for the benefits of the society and Cherry City as a whole.

Awakener were treated specially by the everyone.

Mr. Mason stopped because he never thought Henry was an awakener. He pushed his head forward to look at the watch Henry was putting on, the Mage class detector watch was used to state the class and element the person awakened

His cheeks pushed down seeing what Henry watch was displaying. Mr. Mason burst out laughing when he couldn't hold it anymore. Henry was surprised by Mr. Mason laugher, but his next words confirmed everything.

“You call yourself an awakener, have you ever heard of anybody with E rank class before. The lowest in the world is C rank, you just awakened an E rank class and you are calling yourself a mage!”

Mr. Mason mocking laughter was heard next.

“What a fool you are, to think you can become a real mage. If I were you, I would've killed myself already. Loser!”

Henry was speechless, although he knows his rank is the lowest the world has recorded, but his element is fire.

Fire is among the rarest elements.

“I awaken fire sir, fire—”

Mr Mason mocking laughter shut Henry off. He can't believe the stupid boy's words, C rank fire can barely scratch a monster, let alone E rank.

this boy must be brainwashed to think he can really become a mage.

“You are a waste, your birth is useless to this world and Cherry City. Now leave before I kick you out”

Henry wanted to voice out when the door bash open and some hefty men entered.

“Take this waste product out of here”

The hefty men grab Henry and throw him out of the company.

Henry couldn't go home, he didn't know what to tell his parents, they will be downhearted, when they found out, he lost his job.

Henry waited for closing hour before he slowly strolls home. He was lost in thoughts.

He has always been subjected to mockery and bully, even the none awakened mock him, they believe he is a waste product and useless to the Mage society.

Nobody has awakened E rank before, Henry is the first, yet he believes he can become a good mage.

Henry believes as long as he enters the academy, he will surely become a good mage but that dream just ended today.

He was some blocks away from home when some men jump out of the darkness.

Their faces were deadly and Henry recognized them immediately, they were the hefty men from Mr. Mason's office. He wonders why they are blocking his way.

“What do you want”

Their leader stepped forward, he displays his class detector watch, a wristwatch that detects the magic class and element power of an awakening.

He was a C rank earth Mage.

“Mr Mason wants you dead”

Henry's heart skipped hearing the bloody words. He stepped backwards with fear gripping his heart.

“No…no”

Henry tried to voice out but he ended up falling on his butt, he pleads immediately.

“I won't tell anyone, I swear I won't”

the man chuckled, hearings the kids' new tone.

“Orders are orders, and it must be followed and by the way, Mr. Mason is helping Cherry City remove the shame of having an E rank mage”

Henry lost control of himself, fear took control of everything. He bows his head on the floor crying.

“Please don't kill me, my family is poor, my sister needs money for her treatment, I am the only one…. they depend on me…. please I am too important for my family”

The leader squats in front of Henry and whisper.

“Run”

Henry got up and ran away, before he could take three steps backwards, a heavy blow brought him to the ground.

The rock ball fall besides Henry. The boss stretches his hands backwards and the rock ball moves to him.

He received it with a smile, then he shaped the size to form a baseball bat.

Henry coughs blood, he tries to crawl away, but his body refused to move, the impact render him useless.

The boss and his men reach him with a beaming look on their faces, They hammer their bat on his body.

He was helpless, this is how his life has always been, only that he will die this time.

Even though he was an awakened, he was just like a normal human, they were even better than him.

Henry's breath was heavy, his eyes slowly closed. This was the end of his worthless life.

Everybody was right about him, he was useless still the end.

His sister's face flashes before his eyes closed, he forgot today was his 18th birthday, there was nothing to celebrate anyway.

At eighteen, he died.
