"Nothing happened," Jenny said, her voice distant as she stood there staring awkwardly at Nathan.

Nathan smiled. "Do you see what I am trying to say here?" His smile was smug and annoyed Jenny a lot. In her head, she wished to squeeze his neck until his head popped, revealing his brains, but outside, she just stood in silence.

"Well, that's not so charitable of you," Jackson said. "Jenny's case was different. So Isaiah's case is different as well. There are no the same."

"Is that something you say to make yourself feel better for not being able to do anything when she was kidnapped and still not being able to do anything now that Isaiah is kidnapped, Jackson?"

Jackson frowned. "You're just an asshole. What the hell do you even know about the whole thing?"

"I know that almost nothing was done when Jenny was kidnapped. What do you know? You want to make the same mistakes as before."

The two boys bickered agonizingly while Jenny was silent but inwardly wondering how it was that Nathan k

From the gate came a man in a body-hugging suit. He had the look of a god. His hair was black and curly, and his eyes were the color of clouds. Ash gray. He seemed to have been born to intimidate and be jealous. All three of them stared with their jaws dropped low as the man came forward. They wondered if he was the caller. They doubted it. They were imagining a rough-looking man, one that would have the appearance of the voice that had thundered from the phone. Well, if they were being honest, the man in front of them had the look of thunder and lightning fashioned into human form. A Greek god. It was Costa. One of the sons of the Gambinos. Again he found himself deep into the business of Isaiah. Now he was close to the car; raising his hand, he tapped on the roof of the car. Nathan, wind down. He managed to smack off the stupid look on his face before it made him come across as dim."Follow me," Costa said and began walking back inside."Maybe that's not him. Maybe that's the body

The thirty minutes was over soon enough. In its duration, the trio had spent the time trying to speak to one another but only found themselves in a bind each time. Jenny and Jackson still did not trust Nathan, and Nathan was getting tired of pretending that he needed them to trust him. "It's time to go," the blond said at once, parking his laptop in his bag."Finally," Jenny said. "Any extra second and we would have killed ourselves," Jackson said. It was as if he was trying not to laugh, and the air kept piling itself in his throat, forcing him to wheeze. Jenny and Nathan said nothing. In a few minutes the trio found themselves in Nathan's car. It was a Lexus. A car no doubt less expensive than Isaiah's Rolls Royce. Jenny nearly asked, "By riding such a car, is your father basically the richest man in the world?" She knew him to be. But she kept her questions to herself. She wanted to avoid at all costs the blond's intuitive ability, which would have led them into another bout

"Where is the location?" Jenny asked. Her voice was sheathed in much seriousness. "And how far is it?"Nathan turned back to the laptop's screen to see the location that was shared to him by the strange caller. "It's a neighborhood called the Zincs. It's close to another neighborhood called the Lo—" Nathan stopped as if his tongue had become frozen cold and unusable. His mind seemed as though it was being shattered by new information downloading into it at a phenomenal pace."What happened?" Jackson asked, dropping a hand on Nathan's shoulder. "Cat got your tongue?" Nathan's shoulders seemed as though they were vibrating under Jackson's hand.Jenny rolled her eyes. "It's not that," she began in her deduction. "It's that Nathan here did not want us knowing about what he wanted to say."Nathan shrugged Jackson's hand off his shoulder and eyed Jenny. "I guess you know everything going on inside of my head now, Elena," he said, sarcastically. "If you do, then explain why I stopped talking

"What do you want?" Nathan asked. For the first time Jackson and Jenny could hear a shadow of fright in the blond boy's voice. They never thought they'd hear it from him. They would have laughed if they were not scared to bits themselves. "That's better," the terrifying voice from the phone said. "I want your full cooperation on this. You see, I am an acquaintance of Isaiah." Jenny and Jackson flinched at these words. "And just this afternoon we saw an article posted by a blog that we traced to you, saying that he was missing. I and my family have been around the city looking for him. At first, we came to think that you were lying and wanted to punish you for it. We changed our minds on that when we traced Isaiah to the last place he had been. "Jenny was terrified but curious. Who was this acquaintance of Isaiah's that she did not know of? An acquaintance that found no qualms in shooting a bullet into the room of college kids. Her mind was engulfed in much pondering. She now remem

The door opened up, and Jackson, still held on to his shirt by Jenny, came in through it. Nathan sat in his chair, hands clasped together just right before his face, waiting on what would be said to him now. There was an aura of mysterious seriousness that shrouded him up and gave Jenny and Jackson a sort of chill that ran down their respective spines. The boy was a quiet menace. He gave the impression of mischief just by being quiet. And Jenny could not help but hate him for it.Jenny bore a look of seriousness right on his face. "Look—" she began but never finished. There was a phone call on Nathan's phone. All eyes lead to the phone on the table beside him. It beeped on, but Nathan said nothing of it as if it were merely a piece of nothing, eyes still boring a hole at the two of them. "Carry on," he said, gesturing to Jenny and Jackson with his hands in a gentlemanly way. "You were about to say something. Don't let a little phone call stop you from laying out your concerns." The

"How long am I going to be sleeping here helpless like this?" Isaiah asked, frustrated at the fact that he couldn't move. By this time the sun had already slipped below the horizon, and the sky had been covered by a thick blanket of night, with stars dotting its body here and there, and a silver crescent moon sitting triumphantly in the center of it all, glaring at the weary mortals that inhabit the cities that it presided upon.""Kate is going to try her best to fix you up tonight so you don't have to stay here long enough and leave tomorrow as soon as you can," Elena said as though she was counting her words, while staring at the window. There was this growing change in temperament that he was seeing in her. He did not know what to say or do about it. He looked at Kate. She nodded to him in agreement. And then he looked at the bandage worn around Luke's neck. She had healed him since yesterday, and it still hadn't healed up. For sure Luke was better now, but she wasn't denying that
