"Water..."

His mother immediately got up to fetch a glass, but Ken was quicker to his feet and helped support his father's body. He slipped one arm behind the older man's back while reaching for the glass his mother handed him with the other.

"Dad, take it slow."

His father took several sips before finally opening his eyes a little wider. His gaze, which had initially been blurry, slowly shifted toward Ken's face and stopped there.

For several seconds, the man simply stared at his son without b

His father paused, his fingers resting against the edge of the magazine. A faint crease appeared between his brows before he let out a weary sigh."He borrowed it."Ken looked at him without responding immediately.Of course, he knew that already. His father had lent the car to his uncle, and everyone in the family seemed to regard the arrangement as perfectly normal. What bothered Ken wasn't the fact that his father had lent someone his vehicle, but the way his father always seemed to surrender his own interests whenever his younger sister's family wanted something."Borrowed?" Ken repeated, his voice remaining controlled. "Dad, I know he borrowed it. I'm asking why you let him take it in the first place."His father lowered his gaze toward the magazine."They needed a car for a few days. It's not a big deal.""Not a big deal to whom?"The question came out more firmly than Ken had intended. He wasn't shouting, but the weight behind his words was enough to make his father stop turni

The motor finally came to a stop in front of the hospital building, and Ken switched off the engine before removing his helmet. The journey had been considerably more peaceful this time, mainly because he had insisted on driving himself rather than allowing Conal to take the handlebars again.Conal, who had spent most of the ride sitting behind him with both hands gripping the sides of the seat, seemed to have recovered from the trauma of their earlier accident. He took a deep breath, stretched his arms, and looked at the hospital entrance."See? We arrived safely. I told you I wouldn't cause any trouble this time."Ken turned to look at him."You weren't the one driving.""Details, Ken. Details."Before Ken could respond, the hospital's main entrance opened, and his mother emerged from inside. She spotted the two young men standing beside the motorbike and immediately walked toward them, her expression brightening when she recognized Conal."Conal? What are you doing here?""Auntie!"

After conducting several simple tests, Ken began to understand the possible cause.“It seems the problem isn’t with the pump or the pipes. The pressure sensor might no longer be reading changes correctly, or there could be a fault with the automatic switch.”He lightly tapped the outside of the control box. “I need to inspect the components more closely to be sure, but we shouldn’t leave the pump running like this.”Uncle Abrams nodded, slightly surprised by how carefully Ken was examining the device.“You know about this sort of thing?”“A little. I learned about it when I took on part-time jobs in the past.”

Uncle Abrams appeared from inside the house with his wife. Both looked shocked when they saw the damaged barrier, the scattered ornamental plants, and a motorcycle lying in the middle of the wreckage. Their gazes then shifted to the two young men standing nearby, their clothes covered in dust and their expressions anything but composed.Uncle Abrams’s wife immediately approached them.“Oh, my goodness! Are you two all right? Is anyone hurt?” she asked anxiously, checking Ken and Conal from head to toe.“We’re fine, Auntie,” Ken answered quickly. He brushed the dust off his clothes, then bowed his head sincerely. “We’re sorry. It’s our fault for damaging the barrier and the plants in front of your house.”Conal, who had been busy mourning his motorcycle, immediately straightened up. He bowed as well, although his movements were a little awkward because one hand was still holding his waist.“I’m sorry, Uncle! Auntie! I really didn’t mean to do it. I’ll take responsibility for all the da

  • 139. “...Am I still alive?”

Ken actually had a bad feeling creeping into his mind. However, seeing Conal enthusiastically patting the back seat, he decided not to think too much about it.After all, they only needed to go to Uncle Abrams’s house, and it wasn’t even that far away.Unfortunately, Ken soon realized that trusting this man had been a huge mistake. The moment Ken sat down and held on to the back of the motorcycle seat, Conal immediately twisted the throttle. The motorcycle shot forward at an absurd speed for the relatively quiet village roads, making Ken instinctively grip the side of the seat more tightly.“Conal, slow down a little!”“Relax! I know these roads better than anyone!” Conal answered loudly, as though he had just received a compliment about his riding skills.Ken stared blankly at the man’s back. He felt that the twenty-five-year-old Conal was no different from the five-year-old Conal who used to ride his little bicycle. Both were equally terrible at controlling their vehicles, equally f

Once everything was reasonably organized, Ken picked up his backpack and carried it to his room. He placed it beside the wardrobe, then looked around the room for a moment before letting out a soft breath. The room was still simple, with an old study desk in the corner and a bed that hadn’t yet been fitted with fresh sheets. There was nothing luxurious about it, but that was precisely what made it feel familiar. After living in the city for so long and facing all sorts of events he could never have imagined before, being here made Ken feel as though part of him had returned to the past.Unfortunately, he didn’t have much time to reminisce. He still needed to visit Uncle Abrams and thank him in a more appropriate way. He had already prepared a special bag containing several gifts for the man.Ken left his room and found Kienna carrying her clothes and skincare set toward her own bedroom.“Hey, don’t forget to put fresh sheets on my bed,” he said.Kienna turned to him with an expression
