Chapter 1
1
The freezing air felt like sharp glass scraping against the inside of Gideon’s lungs.
He was being dragged face-down across the cold concrete floor of Floor 48.
Every inch of his skin burned with agony.
Blood pooled around his torn shirt and dripped onto the icy ground.
Behind him, in the absolute, pitch-black darkness of the hallway, low growls vibrated through the floorboards.
Formless, smoke-like shadow beasts coiled together in the gloom, their red eyes glow like burning coals.
Long, jagged claws made of condensed black smoke tore into Gideon’s back, shredding his flesh while dragging him deeper into the dark.
"Please..." Gideon gasped, his voice cracking from the bone-chilling draft. "Masterson... Jessica... open the door..."
He clawed at the floor with his fingernails, leaving bloody streaks on the concrete as he fought to reach the heavy steel vault door at the end of the corridor.
Three inches of reinforced bulletproof glass sat at eye level on the door.
Behind that safe, clear glass stood two figures.
Inside the room, the emergency heater cast a soft, orange light over Jessica’s face.
She wore a fur coat—a coat Gideon had spent his entire monthly salary to buy for her—and in her arms, she held the key to the large cardboard box filled with Gideon’s private food reserves.
Canned beef, bags of rice, medical bandages and bottled water.
Everything he had stockpiled for weeks sat in her arms.
Beside her stood Masterson... his landlord.
He wore an expensive leather jacket holding a fat cigar loosely between his teeth while a small, malicious smirk appear on his face.
Gideon reached out to them with a trembling, blood-soaked hand, slamming his palm against the glass.
"Jessica..." Gideon choked out, blood leaking from the corner of his mouth. "I brought you into this building... I saved your life... give me my food... let me in..."
Jessica didn't step forward nor reach for the door handle.
Instead, her face twisted in pure disgust.
She pulled the fur coat tighter around her shoulders and stepped back, acting as if Gideon’s bleeding form was an eyesore.
"Look at you, Gideon," Jessica sneered through the door's intercom speaker.
Her voice was cold, sharp, and entirely devoid of emotion. "You look pathetic. Did you really think I'd share those rations with a nobody like you? Masterson owns this building. He has power. You're just a broken architect with no future."
Gideon’s heart shattered harder than his broken ribs. "Four years, Jessica... I gave you everything..."
Masterson stepped up to the glass leaning over the intercom.
He took a slow puff from his cigar and blew the smoke against the inside of the glass.
"A dead tenant pays no rent Gideon," Masterson chuckled, his eyes full of ruthless greed. "You should have known your place. Your food and shelter belongs to us now. Now, freeze like a dog in the dark."
"You bastards!" Gideon screamed, his voice breaking into a ragged sob.
Masterson flipped a switch on the wall.
The small intercom indicator light went red and the speaker cut out completely.
Inside the warm room, Jessica turned her back on him and walk away with Masterson toward the soft sofa carrying Gideon's food.
They didn't look back once.
A freezing gust of wind swept down the unlit hallway.
Behind Gideon, the shadow smoke beasts hissed in unison.
The black, swirling smoke wrapped around his ankles and lift him off the ground.
Razor-sharp claws sank deep into his chest, ripping through his bone and muscle.
Agony exploded through his body.
The cold reached his heart... freezing his blood solid in seconds.
As the pitch-black shadows swallowed his vision, Gideon’s despair turned into a burning, venomous hatred.
He stared at the sealed steel door through a blur of dark red eyes.
'If I ever get a second chance...' Gideon swore in the dark depth of his fading mind. 'I will tear you both to pieces...'
...
[CRACK!]
Gideon’s eyes snapped open.
He gasped violently, lunging forward in his seat.
Air—warm and clean 22-degree air—rushed into his lungs, making him cough uncontrollably.
He clutched his chest as he frantically pat down his shirt.
'No blood... no gaping wounds. No freezing ice.'
His black shirt was completely dry while his skin was warm.
Gideon’s hands shook as he looked around.
He was sitting in an ergonomic leather office chair.
In front of him stood a sleek, white standing desk holding three large dual-monitor displays.
Sunbeams poured in through the massive floor-to-ceiling glass windows, illuminating pristine architectural blueprints scattered across the table.
This was his office on Floor 48 of Metro Commercial Center.
Gideon stared at his desk, his breathing heavy and ragged. "Was... was it just a dream?"
His eyes darted to the bottom right corner of his computer monitor.
[Date: October 25, 2026]
[Time: 08:30 AM]
Gideon froze.
His pupils shrunk to tiny pinpricks.
'October 25th.'
The Dark Eclipse occurred on November 1st at precisely 12:00 PM.
Seven days.
'I'm back. I have been reincarnated seven days before the global cataclysm struck.'
Before Gideon could process the sheer shock... a clear, chiming sound echoed directly inside his head, shattering the silence of the room.
[PING!]
A translucent, golden-blue holographic screen materialised in mid-air, hovering inches away from his face.
[Host soul stabilization complete.]
[Detecting extreme hatred and iron willpower.]

Gideon stared at the floating golden text.
He reached out to it with a shaking hand, his fingers passing right through the warm, glowing light of the screen.... and a soothing, gentle warmth radiated from the panel, instantly flushing away the lingering horror of the icy death he had suffered moments ago.
"God of Light System..." Gideon whispered, his hoarse voice growing steady.
A cold, razor-sharp smirk slowly spread across his face.
In his past life, he was a doormat who worked endless hours as an architect, giving his money to an ungrateful woman and trusting a greedy landlord.
He died like a stray dog in the dark.
'Not this time.'
'Seven days is more than enough time.'
