Lucas pressed both hands to his head, trying to steady himself. Damon's words kept replaying but the more he thought about them, the less sense they made.

“What the hell are you even talking about?” Lucas snapped, his voice raw. “Nothing you say adds up!”

His frustration boiled. He felt like he was missing something obvious, but every attempt to connect the dots only sharpened the pain in his skull.

Damon didn’t flinch. A low chuckle escaped him, casual, almost mocking.

Lucas’s eyes narrowed. “You think this is funny? You stand there talking in riddles, acting like you know everything, and I’m supposed to what—lose my mind trying to figure it out?”

Damon tilted his head slightly, the corner of his mouth lifting into a smirk. “Looks like it’s working.”

Lucas’s rage spiked. He wanted to lunge forward, but his body ached too badly from the beating.

“You’re deliberately messing with me,” Lucas hissed. “You’re saying just enough to drive me insane but not enough for me to figure it out. Is

Damon pulled his car up in front of one of the most expensive restaurants in the city. Anthony had just told him that Simon was waiting for him there. Simon had discovered more information about his mother's death, and Damon could not wait to hear what it was. After he learned the truth, the need to lie to Celia about who he really was would finally be over. Then they could start dating for real, not pretending anymore, but only if she had made up her mind about her own feelings. He got out of the car and walked toward the restaurant. One of the waitresses was already standing there, ready to guide him to the private room where Anthony and Simon were waiting. “Good afternoon, sir. Welcome to our restaurant. Mr. Williams and Mr. Simon are already waiting for you. Please come with me to the private room,” the waitress said in a polite voice. Damon nodded and followed her inside. They walked down a quiet hallway until they stopped in front of a private room. Anthony and Simon had don

Celia stared at Damon's tense look as he drove. His jaw was set hard, and he hadn't looked at her once since they left the house."Damon, you need to calm down," she said quietly."I am calm.""No, you're not. You're gripping that steering wheel like you want to break it."Damon exhaled through his nose but didn't loosen his grip. "I spent weeks planning that surprise for you. I tracked down who owned your family's house. I paid double what it was worth just to make sure I got it. And then that guy shows up and ruins everything.""He didn't ruin anything," Celia said. "You still bought the house. That's still the most amazing thing anyone has ever done for me.""But now it doesn't feel special anymore," Damon said. "Now it just looks like I was competing with him.""That's not how I see it.""Then how do you see it, Celia?" Damon finally looked at her. "Because from where I'm standing, your childhood best friend just walked back into your life and offered you the exact same thing I wa

Celia's heart pounded as she stared at Hunter. She couldn't believe he was standing right in front of her after all these years. The boy who had been her best friend, the one she had secretly liked before his family moved away without warning."Hunter, what are you doing here?" Celia asked, trying to keep her voice steady.Hunter smiled, but it looked sad. "I live here now. I bought this house six months ago but, Mr. Damon..." Celia spoke up before Hunter could finish."You bought it?" Celia's eyes went wide. "You're the one who owns my family's old house?""I didn’t know it was your family’s house when I bought it," Hunter explained quickly. "I just saw it was for sale, and something about it felt right. I've been searching for you everywhere, Celia. I even hired people to find you, but no one could track you down."Damon stepped closer to Celia, his jaw tight. He didn't like how Hunter was looking at her, and he definitely didn't like the way Celia was looking back at him."Why wer

"Damon, this is the road to my family’s old house. What are we doing here?" Celia asked, her voice tightening as she recognized the familiar path. The road was leading exactly to the place that had been on her mind for years, and she couldn’t keep quiet anymore."Yes, it is, Celia. Just wait… you’ll find out where we’re going," Damon replied calmly, his eyes fixed on the road.Celia let out a slow sigh. She turned her face to the window, watching the surroundings slip past. They drove by the very spot where she once handed a starving boy a piece of bread, the place where she unknowingly saved his life. A small, bittersweet smile touched her lips as the memories washed over her.Who would have ever thought that boy was Damon, and that she was the little girl who had saved him?Damon’s voice pulled her back to the present, and she turned to face him."I’m glad you still remember this place… because it means everything to me. It’s where I first met you," he said quietly.Celia’s smile wi

Damon got into his car and released a slow breath. It was another day, and he wondered what would happen today, what drama and what problems might come. But he quickly shook the thought away, because no matter what happened, he was going to handle it—or even stop it before it started. He would never let Celia worry again.“Damn it, Anthony hasn’t called me yet,” Damon muttered as he pulled out his phone, ready to dial his number. Just then, it started to ring. It was Anthony.“Damon…” Anthony began. In order not to offend him, he had gotten used to calling him by his name, just as Damon had requested.“I was just about to call you. How is it?” Damon asked.“I needed to make sure everything was ready and perfect before I contacted you. But now it is. All the documents are ready, and everything is officially yours,” Anthony said.“Good,” Damon replied. “I’ll call you if I need anything else.”“Okay, Damon,” Anthony said, and the call ended.“I’m very sure Celia is going to love this, an
