Upstairs, Albert stood, grabbing Celia by the wrist.

She tried to pull away, but her limbs were too sluggish, her mind spinning. “Please… let go…”

“No one says no to me, bitch,” Albert growled, yanking her up.

Something snapped in Celia. Drunk or not, a surge of adrenaline cut through the fog in her mind.

Her eyes darted to the table in front of her, where empty bottles and glasses were scattered among the snacks.

Without thinking, she grabbed the nearest object—a heavy glass bottle, half-full of some dark liquor—and gripped it tightly.

“Get away from me!” she shouted, her voice louder than she expected. She swung the bottle with all her strength, aiming for Albert’s head.

The bottle connected with a sickening 'crack', striking him on the forehead. Albert grunted in pain, stumbling back and clutching his head.

The bottle didn’t shatter, but liquor splashed everywhere, soaking his shirt and dripping onto the floor.

The room erupted into chaos. Someone screamed. A few people b

Damon didn’t sleep. He sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the message from Marcus until his eyes hurt. Every word in that text was a taunt, a challenge, and a promise of war.At 6:10 a.m., Anthony’s voice came through the earpiece. “Boss, everyone’s in position. The Greene parents are secure. Two of Marcus’s vans are moving. They just left the hotel.”Damon stood, already pulling on his jacket. “Positions confirmed?”“Yeah. Six men total. They’re heading toward Miss Greene’s old route to work, like Rachel said. The van’s registered under a shell company linked to the Blackwell Group.”“Perfect,” Damon said. “Let them think their plan’s still working. We’ll make our move at the junction by Kingsley Avenue.”Celia’s door opened just then. She looked tired, dressed in jeans and a white shirt, her hair slightly messy. “You didn’t sleep either,” she said softly.“Didn’t need to.” He looked her over, making sure she had the phone he just brought for her, the small tracker Anthony gave h

Celia's hands flew to her mouth when she saw the photo of her parents. "No, no, no, he can't do this. My parents have nothing to do with any of this!"Damon was already dialing Anthony who answered immediately. "I need a full security team at the Greene residence right now, and I mean right now. Marcus Blackwell has eyes on Celia's parents and he's threatening to kill them if we interfere tomorrow.""I'm sending a team there immediately," Anthony said, his voice tense. "But boss, if Marcus is threatening them, he might already have people positioned nearby ready to move. We need to get Mr. and Mrs. Greene out of that house tonight.""Do it," Damon said without hesitation. "Take them to one of the safe houses and don't tell anyone where, not even me. If Marcus tries to get that information out of me tomorrow, I can't give up what I don't know."After ending the call, Damon turned to Celia who was shaking with fear and anger. "Anthony's team will have your parents secured within the nex

"You're insane," Damon said flatly."I prefer the term dedicated," Marcus corrected. "When I want something, I do whatever it takes to get it. Four years ago Celia slipped away from me because I wasn't prepared. This time I've planned for every possibility, every contingency. You can't win because I've already won."Damon took a step closer to Rachel despite the guards raising their weapons. "So what happens to her? You've made your point.""Have I though?" Marcus's voice turned cold. "Because you're still standing there acting defiant instead of accepting reality. Maybe I need to make a stronger statement about what happens when people interfere with my plans."The man holding the tablet lowered it and pulled out a handgun, pressing it against the back of Rachel's head. She sobbed harder but didn't try to move or speak."No!" Damon shouted, starting forward, but the other guards blocked his path with their own weapons aimed at his chest."Relax," Marcus said. "I'm not going to kill h

  • Chapter 143

Damon pulled up to the private airfield with his headlights off, parking about fifty yards from where Rachel's car sat motionless near a small hangar. The three security vehicles behind him spread out into position, blocking any easy escape routes."Stay in the car," Damon told Celia as he reached for the door handle. "Lock the doors after I leave and don't open them for anyone except me or Anthony.""Wait," Celia grabbed his arm, her eyes filled with worry. "What if Marcus is in there waiting for you? What if this whole thing is designed to get you alone so his people can kill you?""That's exactly what it is," Damon said calmly. "But Rachel risked everything to warn us and I'm not leaving her to die because Marcus wants to play games.""Then let Anthony's security team handle it," Celia pleaded. "You don't have to be the one who goes in there."Damon turned to face her fully, his expression serious. "Yes, I do, because Marcus made this personal when he threatened you. If I send som

  • Chapter 142

Damon's mind raced as he tried to think of a way to explain Anthony's slip-up without revealing too much. Celia was staring at him, waiting for an answer, and the longer he stayed silent, the more suspicious she would become."It's just a nickname," Damon said, keeping his voice casual. "Anthony sometimes calls me that as a joke because I helped save his mother. He says I act like a boss when I'm giving instructions about her care."Celia's eyes narrowed slightly. "That's a weird joke, especially in a situation like this where everything is serious and tense.""Anthony has a weird sense of humor," Damon replied, hoping she would drop it. "You've met him, you know how he can be sometimes."But Celia wasn't letting it go that easily. She crossed her arms and tilted her head, studying him."Damon, I've been noticing things that don't add up," she said slowly. "You live in a mansion that would cost millions. You have connections to powerful people like Anthony Williams and Vivienne Ashfor

Damon moved fast. He grabbed Celia's arm and pulled her away from the windows, pushing her toward the center of the room where no one outside could see them."Stay low," he said, his voice tight but controlled.Celia's breathing quickened as the reality hit her. Someone was watching them right now. Someone had been close enough to take that photo through the window just seconds ago."He's outside?" she whispered, her voice shaking. "Right now?"Damon was already on his phone, calling Anthony. "We've got eyes on the house. Someone's watching from outside. Get your team here now and look around the outside. I want whoever took that photo found in the next five minutes."He ended the call and turned back to Celia. "Come with me. We're going upstairs where there are no ground-level windows."They moved quickly up the stairs, Damon keeping himself between Celia and any possible sightlines. Once they reached his bedroom on the second floor, he locked the door and checked every window to mak
