As soon as the words left the man’s lips, Tedmond gave him a blank expression. He had never seen the man before and had no idea who he was.

However, one question caught his attention. The man had just asked what he was doing in a house that was supposed to belong to someone else. Holding roses and mentioning Persis' name was enough for Tedmond to understand what the man wanted and what was going on.

“Even if you’re a driver picking us up, why are you so damn dressed up like that?” the man demanded, pointing the bouquet of flowers at Tedmond. “Why are you overdressed? Are you trying to seduce your boss?”

Hearing the man’s question, Tedmond arched a brow and glared at him. They didn’t know each other, yet the man had the audacity to make assumptions.

“If you’re done delivering the flowers, you can leave,” Tedmond replied. “Or hand them over—I’ll give them to her when she gets here. It wouldn’t be right to keep you waiting when you have other jobs to do.”

As soon as Tedmond spoke, the ma

Back outside, Tedmond continued to ignore the brown-haired man. No matter how loud or insistent he was, Tedmond glanced at his wristwatch, checking the time.“Hey! Aren’t you listening to me?!” the man snarled. “Is that watch more important than what I’m saying?!”Tedmond raised his head and looked at him, nodding. “You were talking, but I wasn’t interested in hearing anything.”The man’s glare darkened, and his teeth clenched. “What could you possibly understand? You’re just an ordinary driver.”Just then, the sound of clicking heels drew their attention. Both men turned toward the source of the sound.Persis was stepping out of the building. The brown-haired man’s face lit up, and he rushed toward her. “You’re here!”However, she brushed right past him and stopped in front of Tedmond.Holding his hand, she peered up at him with a bright smile. The brown-haired man froze, his face turning pale. He was so stunned that he couldn’t move for a few seconds. When he did, his expression wor

Lenny stood frozen on the sidewalk, his fists clenched at his sides as he watched the car drive off. The taillights glowed red in the distance, slowly fading into the night. His heart pounded in his chest, a mix of anger, humiliation, and disbelief washing over him.She didn’t remember him.Not only that—she had brushed him aside like he was nothing.Lenny ran a hand through his hair, frustration bubbling inside him. How could she forget? They had spent hours together as kids. He had always been there, always admired her. He thought she would at least hold some memory of him, even if it was faint. But the way she had looked at him—like he was just some random guy—made his stomach churn. And that driver.Lenny’s jaw tightened as he recalled the way Persis had clung to Tedmond, how she had locked hands with him so easily as if he meant something to her. He had assumed Tedmond was just a hired worker, someone beneath their world. But Persis had stood beside him, defended him, and left wi

Tedmond's eyes snapped to the man the moment the words left his lips. Fiancé? There had been marriage offers for her? Was that why she had suddenly asked him to marry her?Just by looking at the people speaking to them, he could already tell what kind of person the so-called little brother was.The first woman—Ms. Kurt. That was when Persis finally remembered who she was.She was one of the reasons Persis avoided events like this. Ms. Kurt had once tried to set her younger brother up with Persis—something she despised. If she had known she would run into Ms. Kurt at the party, she would have asked Mr. Cain to revoke her invitation altogether.“It isn’t nice to bring a lowlife to a party, dress him up, and then reject Ms. Kurt’s offer like this,” the man added. “It would be better if your partner left. We’d make sure no one spreads rumors about you bringing a nobody as your date.”They were certain she wasn’t involved with anyone. And since they didn’t recognize the man with her, they

The words brought silence to the room, and everyone began nodding. Tedmond glared at the man who had just spoken. It was clear they wanted him to reveal his face—something he had no intention of doing.“He’s right,” one of the guests said. “We haven’t seen Mr. Washington's face, and this one is wearing a mask. How can we be sure it’s him?”“He must have come here to fool us.”“If Hans is telling the truth, then he must have also fooled Miss Damon and made her think he’s Mr. Washington,” a woman stated, her voice louder than the rest. She held a wine glass in her hand and wore a dark green dress. “He must have come to the party without an invitation, too.”“If he turns out to be an imposter, what should we do?” a man questioned.Hans grinned. Just as he had expected, the others were beginning to doubt the man in front of them. Although Tedmond had acted and spoken like a Washington, Hans knew how to spot a faker.Ms. Kurt raised her head to look at Tedmond, a frown crossing her face. S

Persis peered at Lenny, her brows furrowing. She had just revealed his real identity, yet everyone refused to believe her, convincing themselves he wasn’t who she claimed.Tilting her head to the side, she nodded. “He is Julius Washington, and we are engaged to be married.”Lenny’s face turned pale, and he gripped Persis’s shoulder. He was so terrified that he had insulted a Washington that he didn’t even register the second part of her sentence about being engaged to Tedmond.“Are you sure he’s really the one?” Lenny asked. At that moment, Hans spoke up. In his mind, he couldn’t allow more people to be deceived by Persis and Tedmond.“He isn’t Julius Washington. No one knows what Julius looks like, so why would he have a mask on in the first place? He’s someone tons of people look up to. Since you first saw him as a driver, then that must be what he is.”“That’s right,” a woman murmured. “You already saw him as a driver, so he isn’t Mr. Washington.”“He’s just an imposter.”“I can’t

No one knew what to say or how to start. They had been sure he wasn’t the real person, but now that the truth was out, they were both shocked and terrified of what would happen to them.Ms. Kurt's breath hitched, and she took an unconscious step back, her once-confident expression crumbling. The realization that she had insulted the head of the Washington family—twice—sent chills down her spine."I-I…" Hans stammered, his fingers trembling as he gripped the card. His mind raced for an excuse, a way to backtrack, but the proof was undeniable. He had been the one who claimed Tedmond wasn’t the real person. If only he had kept his mouth shut when everyone believed Tedmond, he wouldn’t have so much to deal with now.Persis folded her arms, tilting her head slightly as she regarded them with an unimpressed gaze. "Well?" she drawled. "Is that enough proof for you all, or do you need him to bring his birth certificate too?"At the mention of the birth certificate, both of them hurriedly shoo

As soon as they were out, Tedmond glanced back at the building. There were tons of people inside, and he could have dealt with them if he wanted, but that would be too much trouble. He’d leave them to Thomas since Thomas knew how to handle people and which sections to target.“I’m glad they spoke to us like that,” Persis muttered, a grin on her face as she nudged him. “Now I finally have an excuse to leave the hall and go somewhere else. And now that we’re out of the party, Mr. Cain is going to get mad and kick them out.”Just as the words left her lips, Tedmond heard footsteps behind them. Turning around, he saw Lenny approaching with a guilty expression. It looked like he had something to say but was still figuring out how to put it into words.Persis turned as well, her expression darkening the moment she saw Lenny. She had expected him to come after them but hadn’t thought it would be this soon.“What do you want?” she asked, not wanting to deal with him any longer. Lenny claimed

Walking into the room, Tedmond and Persis exchanged glances. The private suite Mr. Cain had taken them to looked more like a safe house.“It’s quieter here than in the rest of the rooms,” Mr. Cain said, gesturing to a sofa for Tedmond and Persis to sit on.Tedmond sat down, his gaze fixed on Mr. Cain, while Persis took her seat next to him, still wearing a disinterested expression.‘I was her fiancé.’ The words still rang in Tedmond’s head. When Mr. Cain had mentioned it earlier, Tedmond had immediately demanded to know how that was possible, but the man had told him they would talk inside. Now, Mr. Cain had something that would make him stay longer at the party.Tedmond studied him closely. The man looked too young to have once been engaged to his mother. Since Tedmond was nineteen, his mother was probably in her forties or fifties, depending on when she had given birth to him.A person in their thirties couldn’t possibly have been her fiancé.“Do you want anything to drink?” Mr. Cai

Who knows what she might hand over? Max doesn’t even have anything from the main family, and now that bastard is going to get something?”Then she noticed Harold’s face.He wasn’t upset. In fact, he was smiling brightly.“What are you grinning about?” Evelyn questioned, eyes wide in shock. “Are you okay with that illegitimate child having something Max doesn’t have?”It was only then that Harold seemed to register her words.“W

His uncles exchanged tense glances.Tina opened her mouth as if to speak, then closed it again, pressing her lips into a thin line.It was clear they were struggling to stay composed.Tedmond didn’t flinch. “You’re an illegitimate child,” Richard sneered, his voice dripping with disdain. “No matter what, you’d have to donate your blood anyway. It’s not like you have a choice. Don’t act like you’re doing us a favor.”Gerald added, “Yeah, Ottis is in trouble because of you. It’s time you stepped up.”“It's something that you must do,” Tina added, her grin widening since the others were taking her side. “The illegitimate child has to support the legitimate children.”Nodding her head, Evelyn liked how things were going. She even wished that Tedmond could donate his blood so that he would lose tons of blood. It reminded her of the time in the past when she had taken a certain person's blood for no valid reason. The mere thought of it brought a sinister smile on her face.“You know it is the right thing to do, right?” Evelyn said. “Ottis is in critical condition, and you have to donate the blood to him.”Harold remained silent, watching the exchange unfold. He wanted to see how Tedmond would

At the same time, Tedmond was led into the doctor’s office by a nurse. She held the door open, nodded politely, and left without a word.He narrowed his eyes as she walked away. Odd. No greeting, no explanation. Just silence. Before he could dwell on it, a voice snapped him back.“You’re here, Mr. Tedmond,” the head doctor said, glancing up from a file.Tedmond gave a small nod.“Have a seat,” the doctor said, gesturing to the chair across his desk.Tedmond sat, posture relaxed but gaze sharp. He didn’t like surprise meetings, especially not from anyone connected to the Griffins. If Thomas had known the doctor would call him, he would’ve warned him. The silence meant one thing—this was orchestrated by the Griffins.“This isn’t just a friendly chat,” Tedmond said dryly. “What do you want?”The doctor offered a faint smile. “It’s about Ottis.”Tedmond waited.“You’re listed as one of the emergency blood matches in our system, based on an old check-up. While other things were going on, Tedmond stood outside the hospital with one hand in his pocket. He considered heading back home since he had nothing to do at the hospital. However, on second thought, he changed his mind.He was certain his men had beaten up Ottis, but not so severely that it would require a blood transfusion.'Ottis must have done something else to make himself bleed that much.' Tedmond thought. He couldn’t help but wonder if Ottis had intentionally worsened his injuries to get back at him.Pulling out his phone, Tedmond dialed Thomas’s number. Since he didn’t have the bodyguards’ contacts, he couldn’t reach them directly. If he’d known he’d need to contact them again, he would’ve gotten their numbers. But now, it was too late.“Young master,” Thomas answered on the second ring.“Did you see the report from the bodyguards?” Tedmond asked, his voice low and calm.“Yes, young master. I was about to contact you—something seems off. According to the report, Ottis only s

In the hospital ward where Vivian and Adeline sat, the beeping of machines provided the only rhythm in the heavy silence. The faint scent of antiseptic lingered in the air—sharp and cold.Vivian sat hunched at the edge of her seat, her hands clenched tightly in her lap. Her gray hair, once neatly tied back, had begun to come loose, with strands falling messily around her temples. Her eyes were red—not from crying, but from sheer exhaustion.Adeline paced near the window, arms folded tightly across her chest. Outside, the sun shone brightly, and she could see people moving about—some in wheelchairs, others deep in conversation with family members. The hallway beyond the door was quiet, save for the occasional shuffle of nurses’ shoes or the distant echo of a cough.Adeline had just told Vivian about Ottis’s current condition. Hearing that her grandson was in danger made Vivian panic. Her memory might not have been the sharpest, but she still felt pity for him.For him to be beaten that

How dare you ignore me?” she snapped, swinging her hand toward his face. But before she could land the slap, Tedmond caught her wrist mid-air. He hadn’t expected the attack, but there was no way he’d let her hit him—not anymore. He wasn’t the same person who used to stand still and take it.“What the hell is this supposed to be?” Tedmond demanded, a deep frown forming on his face."You—!" Her scowl deepened. “How dare you grab my hand? Do you have a death wish or something?!”“Death wish?” he echoed with a bitter chuckle. “No. I’ve just finally learned to stop letting people treat me like trash.”Tina’s eyes widened, taken aback by the calm defiance in his voi

She could come back for Tedmond later.“Let’s go, Mother,” Adeline said, holding Vivian’s hand. “The doctor's office is over there. Let's get you tested.”Vivian nodded. “Alright. Like Tedmond said, he’s your little brother, and you have to take care of him,” she said. “Instead of letting him drive, you’ll drive.”That was when Max remembered this had happened before—only back then, he had been the one in the backseat while Tedmond was asked to drive.Biting his lip until it bled, Max couldn’t hide his frustration. Now the roles were reversed, and he was the one being asked to drive. As far as Max could recall, his grandmother had always treated him better than anyone else in the family. It had always felt natural for her to take his side. But now that her attention had shifted to Tedmond, it seemed like she no longer cared about him.‘I’m not going to accept this,’ Max t
