Chapter 1
The Blood on the Floor
The clock on the wall said 3:14 AM.
I hated that clock. It was always stuck at the exact same minute every single time I looked at it, but my brain refused to let me care too much. I just wanted to finish cleaning the counter and go to sleep.
My name is Kiran Vance. By day, or rather, by whatever fake night they piped into this underground dump called New Seoul, I ran a quiet coffee shop. People called it The Last Draught. It was a dark, damp basement hole where tired workers came to drink cheap bean water and forget how miserable their lives were.
I wiped down the sticky wood with a dirty rag, my arms heavy with a tiredness that sleep never fixed. My head hurt. It felt like a small radio tuned to the wrong station, buzzing with words I could not quite hear.
"Just a normal day," I told myself out loud. "Sell coffee. Wipe counters. Pretend the city above us isn't falling apart."
Then the front door exploded inward.
The heavy glass didn't just break; it shattered into a million tiny diamonds that flew across the floor. A body came sliding through the opening, crashing hard against my clean tables and sending ceramic mugs flying into pieces.
I froze, the rag dropping from my hand.
A girl stood in the doorway. She was breathing hard, her silver-white hair soaked with rain and stuck to her pale face. Her leather jacket was torn at the shoulder, and blood dripped from her hand onto the floor. But it was her eyes that made my chest lock up. One was a sharp, clear blue. The other was a bright, glowing violet that seemed to hum in the dim light of the shop.
"Lock the door," she said. Her voice was sharp, cutting right through the noise of the rain outside. "They are right behind me."
"What the hell did you just do to my shop?" I shouted, my hands shaking as I grabbed the edge of the counter.
"Your shop isn't real, Kiran," she snapped back, taking three fast steps toward me. She pointed down at the floor where the body had landed.
I looked down. The person she had dragged in was wearing a black uniform. Half of his chest was blown open, and instead of blood and bone, a jagged blue crystal was stuck right in the middle of his ribs. It pulsed with a cold, steady light, casting long shadows against the walls.
"Look at him," the silver-haired girl said, her voice dropping to a desperate low as she grabbed my collar and pulled me close. Her fingers were freezing cold. "That is you. Or at least, it was you ten minutes ago before they wiped your memory again."
My stomach dropped. I tried to push her away, but my arms felt weak, like lead. "You are out of your mind. I am just Kiran. I make coffee."
"Your name isn't Kiran," she said, her violet eye burning into mine. "And this isn't a coffee shop. It's a cage. Every time you figure out the truth, they kill you, reset the code, and start the loop over."
Before I could tell her she was crazy, the red emergency lights on the ceiling flickered on. The quiet hum of the basement turned into a loud, electronic whine. The walls of the cafe started to blur, the wooden panels melting away into long lines of bright green letters that floated in the air like falling rain.
Outside the smashed front window, heavy footsteps shook the ground.
Three black robotic enforcers stepped out of the shadows of the alley. Their red optic lenses locked straight onto my face. Behind them stood a tall man with a long grey coat and a scarred face. Through the open buttons of his shirt, I could see his bare chest. There was no heart inside him. Just a large, glowing white diamond that spun slowly, humming with a sound that made my teeth ache.
Commander Thorne.
Even though I had never seen him before in my life, my brain screamed his name. A wave of hot, blinding rage hit me so hard I had to grab the counter to stay standing. My hands started to burn. I looked down, and my skin was glowing with a bright, blinding gold light, shining right through my sleeves.
"He found us," the silver-haired girl whispered, pulling a heavy metal gun from her belt. "Lyra is my name, in case you forgot that too. Now, are we going to fight, or are you going to let them put you back in the chair?"
I stared at my glowing hands. The buzzing in my head stopped, replaced by a sudden, terrifying clarity. Every memory I had—the rainy streets, the smell of coffee, the quiet nights—felt thin and fake, like a painted curtain hiding a brick wall.
"I am sick of this loop," I said, my voice sounding stranger than I had ever heard it before.
Commander Thorne raised a hand outside the window. The robotic enforcers raised their weapons, their barrels glowing with blue energy.
"End session," Thorne called out, his voice echoing through the room like a machine recording played on a tape player. "Reset subject to factory settings."
The floor beneath my feet vanished. The coffee shop, the rain, Lyra, and the robots all started to stretch and twist, turning into a blinding white light that swallowed everything in sight.
I didn't close my eyes. I gripped the edge of the disappearing counter, my gold powers flaring up until my whole body felt like a living sun. If they wanted to reset me, they were going to have to get through me first.
The white light snapped shut around us like a jaw, and I fell straight down into the dark.

Code of the Broken Loop The Pen and the Blade
The wall of gold light blocked every exit, burning so bright it made my skin feel hot.I stood right in front of the barrier, my hands raised and glowing with my own power, pushing back against the heat. Across the golden fire, Leo stood tall on the metal walkway. His eyes, which used to be blank white glass, now blazed with the same fierce gold light that lived inside my own chest. He wasn't a victim anymore. He looked like a god ruling over a cage."Leo, stop this!" Lyra shouted, taking a hard step forward. She didn't drop her heavy gun this time; she raised the barrel and pointed it straight at her own brother's chest. "I spent five years looking for you! I tore through every line of code in New Seoul to bring you back! You are not going to stand there and play god with their system!"Leo didn't flinch. A cold, distant smile touched his lips, a look so different from the brother Lyra remembered that it made my stomach turn."You didn't find me, Lyra," Leo said, his voice echoing wi

Code of the Broken Loop The Fall into the Core
The cold metal of Commander Thorne's grip locked around my ribs, dragging me backward into open air as the walkway fell away beneath us.We dropped fast into the deep red core of the mainframe. The wind whipped past my face, turning the roar of the machinery into a deafening wall of sound. Above us, Lyra hung by a single cable from the edge of the retracting platform, her single violet eye locked onto me with absolute desperation. She didn't try to save herself; she reached down with her free hand, trying to catch my fingers as I fell past her."Kiran!" Lyra called out, her voice barely carrying over the wind."Let go of him!" Thorne shouted into my ear, his mechanical arms tightening like a vise around my chest. The white diamond in his chest pulsed with a blinding blue light that cut through the red gloom of the drop. "The core needs the energy, Kiran. You were never meant to leave the loop. You are the battery that keeps New Seoul alive!""I am done being your battery!" I shouted b

Code of the Broken Loop The Coin of Choice
The coin spun on the wooden counter, wobbling back and forth before it stopped flat against the grain. It wasn't a normal metal coin. It was carved from the same glowing gold light that lived inside my chest, pulsing with a steady rhythm that matched my heartbeat. I looked at the stranger sitting across from me. He wore a heavy black coat with the collar turned up high, and his face was hidden in the shadow of a wide hood."You missed a step, Kiran," the stranger said. His voice was deep, smooth, and horribly familiar. It sounded like the audio recordings playing inside the control room, the ones that belonged to the man who wrote every line of New Seoul."The Author," I said, my hands freezing over the espresso machine. The stranger pulled back his hood. Underneath was a face that looked just like mine, except his eyes were completely silver and his skin had the smooth, pale look of a digital screen."Not an author," he corrected gently, sliding the gold coin across the counter towar

Code of the Broken Loop The Final Patch
The silver key felt heavier in Lyra's hands than it had ever felt before. She stared down at the metal object, her single violet eye wide with shock, while her brother Leo watched her from inside the glowing glass sphere. The green lines of code swirling around him spun faster now, casting bright reflections across his pale, blank face."You used me," Lyra said. Her voice didn't shake, but it carried a cold, dangerous fury that made my chest tighten. She looked up at the glass sphere, her fists clenching so hard her knuckles turned white. "You let me spend five years hunting down the Author. You let me think you were dead. All so I would act as a courier for their final update patch?"Leo didn't blink. His blank white eyes stared right through her as if she were a stranger standing on the street. "Every rebellion is written into the script, Lyra. The system needs resistance to test its limits. Without you bringing the key to the core console, the simulation would have collapsed a year
