Marek glanced around the room as soon as the boss and Scar stopped moving. Several men stood guarding the front door, their stance rigid, as though they had been waiting for something.

Marek instantly realized why—they had been waiting for them. Since he and the others had come through the tunnel instead of the front entrance, the ambush had failed.

Even Neil understood and let out a quiet sigh of relief.

Hearing that sigh, a smug smile crept across the boss’s face. He immediately snapped his fingers.

The guards turned, weapons raised in alarm. But when they saw their boss, they relaxed until the man behind the camera spotted Marek. His eyes widened in recognition.

“They’re the intruders!” the man shouted. “Protect the boss!”

The cry split the air.

In an instant, the men surged forward, rushing to shield their leader. The boss’s instincts flared, and he seized Scar by the collar and hurled him straight at Marek, hoping to use the chaos to slip away.

Scar stumbled hard, crashing into M

Tedmond wasn’t angry because she was pregnant or even because she had asked him to marry her.He was angry because of what the thought itself represented. He couldn’t recall ever giving her the impression that he’d marry her, much less pretend not to notice that she was carrying another man’s child. The very idea was an insult to his intelligence. To him, it felt like she wanted the child to call someone else father while using his name as a shield. He exhaled slowly, forcing himself to think clearly. Emotion was useless here; logic was the only thing that still made sense.“Lisa,” he said, his tone level but cold. “Move aside. I’m giving you one last chance to walk away before you do something you’ll regret.”She shook her head stubbornly, eyes glistening. “You don’t understand, Tedmond! I wasn’t trying to—”He cut her off sharply. “No, you don’t understand.”His voice deepened, laced with controlled fury. “You keep acting like I owe you something, like there’s still a we to save. B

  • CHAPTER 443

Tedmond didn’t need to say anything to her.Words would accomplish nothing.Lisa’s desperation, her anger, her threats, none of it mattered anymore. He only wanted to leave, to escape the tension that had been choking them for far too long. His strides were measured, deliberate, cutting through the parking lot with calm precision. He ignored her calls, her shouts, the sharp click of her heels echoing behind him.Every step brought him closer to Hino and Neil, the only company that didn’t demand anything from him, at least not yet.She stumbled after him as he kept walking, his pace steady, his silence heavier than any insult.“Why are you doing this?!” she yelled, frustration mixing with panic. “Tedmond!”He reached his car, unlocked it, and was about to open the door when she rushed in front of him, blocking his path. Her hair was a mess now, her breathing ragged, but she stood firm, eyes wide with desperation.“Fine,” she said breathlessly. “You don’t want to listen? Then you’re no

  • CHAPTER 442

Lisa stared at Tedmond, waiting for a response. After what she had said, she was certain she finally had him. He would agree to her request for marriage, and she’d finally get what she wanted. The silence stretched on, heavy and endless. There was no reaction from Tedmond. Just when Lisa opened her mouth to speak again, he smiled. It wasn’t warm. It wasn’t kind. It was the kind of smile that promised nothing but trouble.“Lisa,” he said slowly, setting his cup aside, “you really don’t know when to stop, do you?”Her pulse quickened, but she held his gaze, refusing to flinch. He leaned forward slightly, his voice low, smooth, and dangerous.“If you think you can use the seal to trap me,” he said, “then you haven’t learned a single thing about who I am.”Lisa’s frown deepened, her patience thinning. She was tired of his calm arrogance, of the way he treated every word she said as meaningless.“Then you have no choice,” she said sharply. “If you want that seal, you’ll have to marry me.”

  • CHAPTER 441

The question made Lisa flinch. She hadn’t been expecting him to ask her that. After all, he had been so in love with her, he should be happy they were finally getting married. She’d been the one reminding him about the marriage, yet now she couldn’t understand the look in his eyes.It wasn’t joy. It was disgust.Tedmond leaned back, the corner of his lips twitching faintly, not in a smile, but something close to mockery.“You were a mistake once,” he said coldly. “I won’t repeat it.”He picked up his cup again, his eyes distant and bored. “If you’re done embarrassing yourself,” he said softly, “you can leave.”Lisa’s breath hitched. For a second, she thought she saw something flicker in his gaze, but no, it was gone before she could name it.Tedmond took another slow sip, his eyes never leaving hers.“Next time you want to play wife,” he murmured, his voice edged with quiet derision, “try not to look so desperate.”Her fingers curled tightly on her lap, her face burning with humilia

Hearing him speak to her like that, Lisa frowned so hard that lines formed on her forehead. She had wanted to meet with him, thinking he would be glad since it was about the seal and the fact that they were supposed to get married. After all, he had been heartbroken when she left him for his brother, and now she believed he’d finally do something about it.Seeing her stand there, Tedmond arched a brow.“Are you speaking or not?”When she didn’t respond, he rose from his seat, ready to leave. He wasn’t about to waste the time he could’ve used to eat on someone clearly set on wasting his time.“Wait!” she called out just as he stood. “Let’s talk first. Could you please remain seated?”Without waiting for his reply, she hurried to sit in the chair opposite him. A slight twitch on her face betrayed the displeasure she tried to hide behind a neutral expression.Ignoring her look, Tedmond sat back down.“Go on,” he said curtly.Sighing, she clasped her hands together and looked straight at

  • CHAPTER 439

“We should go,” Tedmond said, not wanting to waste any more time.Since he needed to talk to her, he wanted it to be quick, clean, and simple. He also knew he had to take her somewhere public so she wouldn’t do something stupid.Looking out the window at the others, her frown deepened before she nodded and folded her arms. Then she turned to him, raising her brows.“Since when did you start driving?” she asked. “The car looks nice. Was it a gift?”To her, the car must have been gifted to Tedmond by his baby mama. She knew that the woman had good taste. But since Tedmond wasn’t married yet, she believed she still had a chance.“Be quiet.” Tedmond’s voice cut through her words like a blade. The sharpness in his tone made her flinch, her lips parting slightly before she quickly pressed them together. His glare was hard enough to make her look away, her confidence shrinking as the cold weight of his presence filled the car.Not another word left her mouth after that. The silence stret
