"Just dump the body here!"

The scream was shrill in the cold night air. Several pairs of rough hands lifted Dave Vogel's body. He was only 20 years old, but his life had been a living hell. Orphaned, weak, poor. He was an easy target for anyone who wanted to vent their frustration. Beaten, cursed, trampled. Dave's days were filled only with suffering.

The climax came a few days ago. He was accused of stealing 200 dollars from the store where he worked odd jobs. A false accusation, of course. But who would believe a loser like Dave? A group of thugs hired by the store owner kidnapped him. They didn't ask questions, they just beat him up. Blow after blow landed all over his body. His ribs might have been broken. His face was swollen beyond recognition. Dried blood crusted at the corner of his lips.

Not only that. They wanted more. Something valuable from him. They dragged him to a dark, dirty place. There, a doctor with a cold scalpel forcibly removed one of his kidneys. Without proper anesthesia. The pain was like fire burning through his entire body.

Now, Dave's body was critical. Full of cuts and bruises, missing a kidney. Blood was still seeping from the rough bandage on his waist. The group of thugs took him far from the city's hustle and bustle, deep into a silent forest. The darkness of the forest swallowed them. On the edge of a river with a strong current, they stopped.

"Just throw him in. Nobody's gonna look for him. He's just trash."

Dave's weak body was simply thrown into the freezing cold water. His head hit a rock on the riverbank before finally being dragged away by the current. The thugs' laughter accompanied the drifting of Dave's body.

Evil, satisfied laughter. To them, Dave Vogel was finished. This solitary loser would never be found. Dead by drowning, or eaten by wild animals. Perfect.

The river current dragged Dave's semi-conscious body. The cold choked him. The pain in his body was unbearable, especially from the scar of his kidney surgery. His lungs began to fill with water. He coughed, expelling the last remnants of his strength. Dying. He must be dying.

Dave closed his eyes. Letting the water swallow him, letting the pain go away. He wasn't fighting anymore. What was the point? No one was waiting for him. No one cared.

Dave's heart stopped beating. His breathing ceased. His body stiffened, drifting lifelessly. He was dead. Yes, he was indeed dead.

However, the darkness of death did not last long.

Suddenly, Dave felt a strange warmth. Not the warmth of fire, but a gentle warmth, spreading from within him. His body, which had been stiff, now felt like it could move. Strange. All the pain that had been suffocating him earlier, simply vanished.

Then, suddenly, he felt a pulse. Weak at first, then stronger, faster. His heart! His heart was beating again!

Quickly, Dave opened his eyes. His vision was blurry at first, then slowly cleared. He wasn't in the cold river. He wasn't in that dark place from the kidnapping either. He was in a room. The afternoon sunlight filtered through a small window, illuminating the simple room.

He was lying on a soft mattress. A blanket covered part of his body. Dave blinked. Confused. Where was he?

He tried to get up. His body felt light, there was no pain at all. He sat on the edge of the bed. There was no pain in his ribs that were supposedly broken. There was no throbbing pain in his waist.

Was this a dream? Could all of it have just been a nightmare? Kidnapped, beaten, his kidney forcibly removed? No. The kidney removal surgery was so real, so painful. The pain was clearly etched in his memory. That wasn't a dream. So what was this?

Dave looked at his hands. Before, his hands were full of cuts, bruises, stained with blood. Now? His eyes widened in disbelief. His hands were clean. There wasn't a single wound. His skin was smooth, even looked fuller. He gripped his hands. They felt strong, firm. Not the thin and weak hands he had always had.

There was a mirror in the corner of the room. A small mirror, hanging on the wooden wall. Dave stood up. His steps were steady, not the weak, dragging steps he usually took. He walked towards the mirror, his heart pounding.

He stood in front of the mirror. He held his breath. His face. It was his face. Dave Vogel's face. But... different. His face was still the same, the shape, the features.

However, the eyes that were usually full of fear and sadness now looked sharp, charismatic. His skin was no longer pale, instead, it looked healthy and rosy. And, oh my god, he looked much more handsome. Not just handsome, but there was a strong aura there.

His body. His body, which used to be as thin and dry as a twig, had completely changed. In front of the mirror, Dave saw his reflection: muscular and toned. His shoulders were broad, his arms were solid, his chest was wide. His stomach was flat, there were even muscle definitions there.

Unable to believe it, Dave opened his clothes. The loose t-shirt he wore last night, somehow now covered his new body. He stripped in front of the mirror. Oh my god. He looked at his whole body. There were no bruises from beatings. There was no incision on his waist where his kidney was taken. His skin was smooth, clean. The muscles in his arms, chest, abdomen, and legs were clearly visible. Perfect. He was perfect!

This didn't make any sense. How could this have happened? He died in the river, then woke up here with a new body, this incredible body? Was he in heaven? Or had he been reincarnated?

Jessica looked at Dave, her eyes filled with new resolve. "I've thought about it," she said. "I want you to do the cleansing."Dave gave a slight nod. "Good.""But," Jessica continued, a little hesitant, "You won't be doing it like a shaman, right? With weird rituals, or bad smells?"Dave offered a small smile. A rare smile that Jessica had only seen a few times. "I'm not a shaman, Jessica." He reassured her. "I'm just using my abilities. My senses are how I feel energy." He added, "I'll be cleansing, not adding to the mess."Jessica let out a sigh of relief. She didn't want to see strange rituals or creepy incantations. "Alright. So, when are you going to start?""Now," Dave said flatly. "We'll start with your room."Jessica nodded, then turned, walking towards the stairs. Lisa, who had been standing in the corner of the room with a sour expression, now trailed behind Jessica, not taking her eyes off Dave.Upon reaching Jessica's room, Dave stepped inside. He didn't touch anything. H

Night fell, dissolving the mansion's grandeur into thick darkness. After the 'simple' yet meaningful dinner, Jessica went to her room, her mind in turmoil.Jessica tried applying Dave's salve all over her body, feeling her skin get better, far better than before. However, thoughts of 'cleansing' and 'energy' that Dave mentioned made her sleep restless.Meanwhile, in the uppermost room, under the moonlight piercing through the large window, Dave sat cross-legged on the floor. His eyes closed, his breathing steady, focusing on the energy around him. Meditation. This was Dave's way of sensing the vibrations of nature, anomalies, and unseen presences. At first, he felt the remnants of the suppressing magic still clinging to the mansion, dwelling in the old walls, in every crack, and most densely in the area around Jessica's room. That energy felt cold, static, but slowly began to melt, thanks to Dave's presence and the salve he gave Jessica. However, beneath all that, Dave felt something

At the inn, Milla was still pouting. She paced back and forth among the half-packed suitcases, grumbling incessantly."You saw it yourself, sir, didn't you? Jessica's assistant! Lisa! She's so annoying!" Milla waved her hands in the air. "I tried to help, but she just kept being cynical. As if we're master criminals!"Dave merely smiled faintly, neatly folding his clothes into a suitcase. "She's just doing her job.""Normal, my foot?!" Milla exclaimed, her face flushing. "I can't even communicate with her without her immediately looking at me like I want to steal all of Jessica's jewelry! I told her you needed a few empty rooms for 'cleansing', and she instantly glared as if I wanted to destroy the entire mansion!""That is my goal, isn't it?" Dave retorted lightly. "To cleanse.""But not destroy!" Milla snorted. "You said you needed optimal sunlight, so we had to move to rarely used rooms. And she immediately got suspicious. Thinking we wanted to take over the mansion.""Be patient,"

"Condition?" Jessica repeated, her voice containing a hint of disbelief. "What condition do you want?"Dave, now standing and facing Jessica, showed no change in expression. "I need to stay in your mansion."A sudden silence crept between them. Jessica gasped. Lisa, who had been standing silently, jolted."What?!" Lisa exclaimed, her voice high-pitched, no longer caring about formalities. "What do you think this is?! This is a crazy request! Ms. Wagner can't possibly let a stranger live in her private home! Her privacy and security will be at risk!"Dave turned slightly towards Lisa, his gaze calm. "I understand your concerns. But this is the only way if Ms. Wagner truly wants to recover and be free."Jessica raised a hand, stopping Lisa, who was about to launch another protest. "Why? Why do you have to stay there, Dave? The salve has already proven effective. You can give me the rest, and I'll use it myself. I'll pay whatever it costs.""This isn't just about the salve, Jessica," Dav

Jessica applied the salve to other areas of her skin, watching in amazement as the hideous wounds and sores vanished one by one. The itching and pain that had been her constant companions were now gone without a trace. It felt like she had been reborn. She looked at her reflection in the mirror, tears welling up in her eyes. Her face, which she had always hidden, now slowly began to look smooth. The next morning, Lisa entered Jessica's room with a breakfast tray.Lisa placed the tray on the table. "Miss, your breakfast—" Her sentence trailed off. Her eyes narrowed, staring at Jessica's face. Something was different. Very different. The tiny sores around Jessica's temples, which had always been her primary concern, were now almost invisible. Only a slight, faint redness remained, which could easily be hidden with light makeup."Miss, your face..." Lisa stepped closer, her eyes scrutinizing. "The wound here..." She pointed to Jessica's temple. "It's much better."Jessica smiled, a genui

Dave returned to the inn. He seemed busy after meeting with Jessica. "I need to concoct a special salve," Dave explained. "A salve that will heal the wounds and also penetrate the magical binding, helping her body fight against and release itself from the curse's influence."Milla looked at him skeptically. "A salve? With what? Magic potions? Incantations?""With specific ingredients," Dave said. "I'll give you a list of them. Some might be easy to find, some will be extremely rare. You'll have to get them.""Just give me the list then," Milla replied eagerly. "I'll try to search to the ends of the earth if I have to."Over the next two days, the inn turned into a bustling operation center. Dave wrote out a long list of ingredients, many of which sounded strange and abnormal to Milla. From meteorite dust fallen in specific locations, to roots of trees that only grew on the highest mountain peaks, to tears from a certain rare bird."Meteorite dust?" Milla repeated, squinting at Dave's
