CHAPTER ELEVEN
Elias remained calm, and to top it all, he refused to get rid of his smile.
“Why are you still smiling?!” Elena fired, finding his beam annoying.
“Don’t you realize the amount of damage that you have done to me and my family?! Now my father thinks that I have brought shame to him, and my sister is happy that she has finally made my father resent me!”
Elias sighed. &

The phone continued ringing.Clement slowly turned his head toward it.Nobody moved. The sound filled the office, sharp and irritating, cutting through the silence that had settled after Elias's departure.Jacob stared at the telephone.“Are you going to answer that?”Clement did not respond immediately. He knew the number. It was the private line.Very few people had access to it.He reached for the receiver.“Hello?”There was silence on the other end.Clement frowned.“Who is this?”A man's voice finally answered.“Mayor Creed.”Clement's expression changed. He recognized the voice, but he hadn't expected to hear it.“Who gave you this number?”“That doesn't matter.”Clement leaned back in his chair.“What do you want?”“I heard you had a visitor.”Clement's eyes narrowed.“How did you hear that?”Another brief silence. Then the voice answered.“The important question is whether you know who he is.”Clement glanced at Sam.The Inspector was still standing near the door.“I am findi

For several seconds after the door slammed shut, nobody inside the Mayor’s office said a word. The silence was heavier than the argument that had filled the room moments earlier.Clement Creed remained behind his desk, his eyes fixed on the closed door. His fingers slowly tightened around the edge of the table.“He actually walked out?”Jacob’s voice finally broke the silence.Clement did not answer. He was still trying to understand what had just happened. The stranger had entered his office without permission. He had stood before the Mayor of Eastcrest City without a trace of fear.He had ignored armed policemen. And now, after making a demand that could have gotten any ordinary man arrested or killed, he had simply walked away.As though the entire building belonged to him.Clement's jaw tightened.“Inspector.”Sam immediately straightened.“Yes, sir.”“Find out who he is.”Sam nodded.“I will.”“And I don't want the usual report.”Clement finally turned toward him.“I want everyth

For several seconds after Elias disappeared through the door, nobody in the Mayor’s office moved. The room had suddenly become unbearably quiet. The music that had been playing before Elias arrived was still running somewhere in the background, but nobody seemed interested in it anymore.Clement Creed remained behind his desk, staring at the doorway. His fingers slowly curled into fists. He had spent years making people fear him.Politicians feared him.Businessmen feared him.Police officers who were supposed to enforce the law feared him.Even people who hated him understood that crossing him came with consequences. But the stranger who had just walked into his office had behaved as though none of those things mattered.Worse, Elias had not behaved like a desperate man.He had not begged. He had not threatened loudly. He had simply made a demand.Release Gabriel Almond.Clement slowly turned his eyes toward Sam.The Inspector was still staring at the door.“Are you going to stand th

For several seconds, nobody moved.Elias’s hand remained extended toward the Mayor, his expression unchanged as he waited for an answer.Clement Creed stared at the hand as though it were an insult that had been placed directly in front of his face.Nobody had ever walked into his office and spoken to him that way.Nobody.Not his employees. Not the police. Not even the people who depended on him for their positions and privileges.Yet this stranger had walked into his office, ignored his authority, threatened his Inspector, and was now demanding the release of a prisoner as though he were asking for a glass of water.Clement slowly looked at Jacob. His younger brother was already staring at Elias. There was something different in Jacob's eyes now.The arrogance was still there, but it had been mixed with uncertainty."Gabriel Almond," Clement finally muttered. He returned his gaze to Elias."You walked into my office, threatened my Inspector, interrupted my family, and now you expect

CHAPTER HUNDRED AND THIRTY-SEVEN “I am sorry about that.” Elias gave a very fake apology, showing clear signs that he didn’t mean his words. “There is absolutely no need for all of this drama. Just take a seat, and I will explain myself to you.” He repeated the words that triggered the Mayor’s anger, but it didn’t seem like he was going to say something like that again. “Very well,” He sighed after a few seconds, turning to Jacob. “Since the Mayor has decided not to sit, I might still state the purpose of my visit to this city.” Elias cleared his throat, but before he could say a word, five policemen had stormed into the office, including Sam, who was right in front of them.Becky was still standing outside, and sensing the tension in the large room, she chose to remain outside. “Good day, Mayor Creed.” Same bowed to Clement, and then he took a deep breath, attempting to deal with the glare of displeasure he received from him. “I came as soon as Miss Creed came to me.” He expla

CHAPTER HUNDRED AND THIRTY-SIX “Let go of my gun!” The policeman struggled, but because Elias was stronger, he snatched his gun from him, causing him to stagger backward. Seeing that he was unarmed and defenseless, the policeman staggered backward, staring at Elias with wide eyes.“Don’t try anything stupid; you are surrounded by policemen.” He muttered, and then he swallowed hard, staring at the gun. He tried looking back to see if his partner was close enough to come to his rescue, but the thought of his gun in Elias’s hands wouldn’t let him get a better view. “You need to drop my gun!” He said with panic, staring at Elias as he staggered backward.Soon, his partner was already standing beside him, but the urge to react to the situation didn’t seem to be with him. “Shoot him, Billy! He has my gun!” The first policeman urged, but his partner seemed to have lost his valor, unable to even hold firmly to his weapon. Elias scoffed, and looking at the men one after the other, he war
