Isabella ignored Elsa's remarks. She was still going to talk to her father and mother.
Isabella went upstairs, to where her father's office was located. Without knocking, Isabella burst right in.
"Dad! What is this?!" Isabella exclaimed. "You're firing me from my position just because of Gilbert's threat?!"
Adam looked up, his gaze cold. "You already know the consequences. Max Thompson is our biggest investor. The company will be ruined without him."
"Bankrupt?" Isabella couldn't believe it. "We have so many other clients! You can find other investors! Why do you always have to cater to that arrogant Gilbert?!"
Adam rose from his chair, looking at Isabella with disappointment. "You yourself triggered all of this!"
Isabella was fed up with her marriage always being blamed.
Adam added, "The decision is final. Elsa will replace your position. She's been eyeing that position for a long time. This is best for the company."
Isabella's heart shattered hearing her father's words. Not only fired, but her position was also given to Elsa.
Without saying another word, Isabella turned around. She wouldn't waste her energy arguing with them anymore.
...
Isabella decided not to tell Nicholas. At least not until she could find another solution.
However, Nicholas was very perceptive. So, she couldn't lie to him. Silently, Nicholas tasked Martin with finding out what was happening at Weber Group.
Later, after investigating, Martin reported Isabella's removal as Deputy CEO at Weber Group.
Nicholas decided not to discuss it with Isabella until he figured out how to help her.
...
In the evening when they were both home, before dinner, Nicholas tried to start a conversation.
"You seem preoccupied. Is there a problem at the office?"
"No," Isabella parried, forcing a smile. "Oh, by the way, can I ask about this mansion?"
"What do you want to ask?"
"What's your job? Why do you have a mansion like this?" Isabella asked.
Nicholas scratched the back of his neck. "This is my grandfather's inheritance, and I work as a public servant."
"Public servant?" Isabella was puzzled.
"You'll know eventually." Nicholas didn't give a definite answer.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang. Soon after, a woman entered the living room.
The woman was wearing an emerald silk gown, her hair neatly styled, and luxurious jewelry adorned her neck and wrists. She was beautiful.
"Nicholas," the woman greeted. She walked straight to Nicholas, shaking his hand warmly. "Long time no see. I'm glad you contacted me."
Nicholas offered a faint smile. "Jessica. Glad you could come."
Isabella looked at Nicholas, then turned to the unfamiliar woman. Clearly, they both had history. They seemed close.
"Isabella," Nicholas introduced. "This is Jessica Vincent. A senior to me, from my old circles."
Jessica turned to Isabella, smiling warmly. "Hello, Isabella. Nice to meet you. Nicholas has told me a lot about you."
Isabella returned her smile, though a flicker of curiosity stirred in her heart. "Nice to meet you too, Jessica. What did Nicholas tell you?"
Jessica chuckled softly. "Oh, only good things, of course. He's lucky to have you." She looked at Nicholas, a glint of understanding passing between their eyes.
"Let's have dinner," Nicholas suggested, trying to lighten the mood. The three of them headed to the dining room, and Nicholas began preparing dinner.
During dinner, Nicholas and Jessica chatted casually.
"You two have known each other for quite a while?" Isabella was curious about Nicholas's relationship with Jessica.
"I've known Nicholas since childhood." Jessica smirked. "Actually, one more person was supposed to come tonight."
"Who?"
"Victor Meyers." Nicholas answered.
"Victor Meyers?" Isabella's eyes widened upon hearing that.
Jessica nodded. "Yeah, that idiot Victor." She teased. "I told him he should come visit Nicholas's house tonight to congratulate him on his marriage. But he's too busy with his business. I hear his company is growing rapidly."
Isabella was still processing this, so she couldn't speak yet.
"I hear Diamond Group has several nickel mining assets in Southeast Asia. And is also involved in the development of renewable energy technology," Nicholas said.
"I thought he was still an idiot!" Jessica still enjoyed teasing.
Isabella couldn't hold back any longer. She asked, "Diamond Group? You're serious about this?"
"Of course we're serious," Jessica replied.
Isabella couldn't describe how she felt. This was spectacular news. She knew it was the company where Naomi, the CEO she knew from Long Term Memory, worked. And Victor Meyers was its owner. She knew Weber Group also had several projects in the nickel and renewable energy sectors, Green Corporation being one of the investment controllers there. As usual, Isabella saw an opportunity in this situation.
"You seem very interested in Victor. Why?" Jessica asked, curious.
"Victor Meyers is a giant in that sector," Isabella replied to Nicholas. "Diamond Group is not just a domestic giant; it also has significant international influence. Its connections are vast, and Victor is very ambitious. He's quite selective about anyone who wants to collaborate with him."
Nicholas said, "I just found out Victor's company was that impressive."
Isabella turned to Nicholas, a little annoyed. "Oh my goodness, Nicholas, you really don't pay attention when it comes to business."
Jessica laughed at this. In her opinion, it was Nicholas's own fault for not wanting to reveal anything about his identity as a five-star general.
"So, are you interested in Diamond Group?" Nicholas asked again.
"Of course," Isabella replied, trying to sound calm. "Diamond Group is one of the industry giants. Very influential. Oh, Nicholas, if you're really close with I hope you can help me meet Victor Meyers directly."
Weber Group had long tried to propose cooperation with Diamond Group, but it was so difficult that they could never even meet with Victor Meyers as CEO.
Nicholas looked at Isabella, his expression hard to read. "Just tell me what you need from him. I'll do it for you."
Isabella felt like she had found a new opportunity.

A glass of expensive liquor in his hand, he was surrounded by three beautiful women who giggled flirtatiously every time Gilbert cracked a joke.He seemed lost in pleasure, momentarily forgetting his troubles, and definitely forgetting Stefani, who was probably waiting for him at home. The party was just getting started, and Gilbert was soaking up every second. After finishing his third glass, Gilbert's stomach felt a little off. He excused himself from the women. "I'm just heading to the restroom for a sec. Don't miss me too much, ladies," he quipped, followed by their sweet laughter. He strolled casually toward the bathroom, unaware that his every move was being watched. The hallway to the restroom area was quiet, with only a few
Catching the Culprit
Jessica held a steaming cup of hot tea, the vapor curling gently. Her mind wasn't on the tea, but on what had just happened and what was coming next. Soon, Victor Meyers arrived, his face etched with worry. He immediately approached Jessica's table."Jessica, I just heard terrible news about Nicholas," Victor said, his voice low and serious as he took a seat across from Jessica. "Is it true?""It is, Victor," Jessica cut in, her eyes sharp. "Nicholas is gravely injured and now in a coma. But I've handled it. He's in intensive care at the safest place we could find."Victor scanned the cafe, then his gaze shifted to the hospital entrance. Several burly men stood stiffly, their eyes watchful."I can see that," Victor nodded slowly. "Tight security. I noticed a few people who aren't hospital staff or regular visitors. They're your security detail, aren't they?""Of course," Jessica replied bluntly. "Every corner of this hospital has our eyes. No one will get near Nicholas without my perm

"Patient in critical condition!" a paramedic shouted. "Severe bleeding from the back and chest! Pulse weak, blood pressure dropping!""Get the OR ready, stat!" The attending doctor barked orders. As they pushed the gurney, Martin pulled out his phone, calling Jessica."Jessica, it's Martin," Martin said, his voice tense and rushed. "General Nicholas is in critical condition. I've brought him to the Military Central Hospital."On the other end of the line, Jessica gasped."What happened? How is he?""Severe bleeding. There's a stab wound to the chest and a slash on his back," Martin explained, out of breath."I'm on my way!" Jessica hung up, leaping out of bed. In no time, she was in her doctor's scrubs and racing to the hospital.Upon arriving at the hospital, Jessica ran straight to the emergency room. The smell of disinfectant and panic immediately hit her senses. She saw Nicholas on a gurney, surrounded by a medical team struggling to stabilize his condition. Nicholas's face was as
A Fierce Battle
In the car, Nicholas was driving calmly. Suddenly, a violent jolt hit the car.The car swerved, but Nicholas expertly gripped the wheel, controlling the vehicle to prevent it from spinning out and crashing into a tree. He slammed on the brakes, and the car screeched to a halt on the side of the road.Isabella stumbled forward, her eyes wide with shock. "What was that?""It's nothing, stay calm." Nicholas showed no sign of panic. He glanced back, then checked the rearview mirror. At that moment, a dark silhouette leaped from behind the trees and stood firmly in front of their car. An old figure in a gray cloak, his eyes glowing. It was Lord Gideon.Isabella looked ahead, saw the figure, then turned to Nicholas, bewildered. "Who's that? Why is he here?"Nicholas locked the car doors from the inside. "Listen to me, Isabella," Nicholas said, his expression turning serious. "You need to go home immediately. Don't worry about anything that happens here.""But why?""Don't ask too many quest
He's going to die
"Not bad?!" Elsa shrieked, sharp with contempt. She dropped her fork with a loud clang on the plate, drawing everyone's attention at the table. "Good heavens, Nicholas! What were you expecting? Moss soup from the river? Or stale bread from a dumpster?"Isabella glared at Elsa. "Elsa!"Richard gave a cynical laugh, enjoying the spectacle. "Maybe he's just surprised, honey. Food of this caliber must be foreign to his palate.""Of course it's foreign!" Elsa continued, looking at Nicholas with disgust. "He has no taste, Richard! Just look at the way he ate earlier. Like someone who's just seen fancy food for the first time in his life. Fast and gluttonous, with no manners!"Nicholas just stared blankly at Elsa, his expression completely unchanged. This only fueled Elsa's anger further."You really are a true loser, Nicholas!" Elsa sneered, her voice rising an octave. "Isabella bought you expensive clothes, you're being taken to a fancy restaurant, and someone else is even paying! But you
The Execution
Gilbert arrived at an exclusive restaurant, the kind you could only get into with a special invitation. As the glass doors swung open, a Maitre d' immediately greeted him."Good evening, Mr. Thomson. We're delighted you're here. Your private dining room is ready for you," the Maitre d' said, guiding Gilbert toward an intricately carved door at the end of the corridor.Gilbert went straight to the table, pulled out the head chair, and sat down. From his spot, he could catch glimpses of the corridor outside through a small gap in the door.He waited. A moment later, a young waiter came over with a glass of water and a menu."Welcome, sir. Here's tonight's menu. Can I help you with anything else?" the waiter politely asked.Gilbert looked at the waiter for a second, then his gaze shifted to watch other servers passing by in the corridor. He squinted, as if searching for something specific. Finally, his eyes landed on a skinny young man walking past, carrying a tray of clean cutlery."You
