Upon hearing the unexpected news, Kyle’s hard expression withered away like the dry leaves in summer time, making his face to drop down drastically.

‘’ What are you saying?! This is not a time for jokes!’’ He yelled at the comrade on the other end of the call, who informed him of the sudden news, a hint of anxiousness dripping in his voice.

‘’ Captain Kael! Miss Emily is indeed missing!’’

Thud!

As the words sank in,

Kael’s heart almost skipped a beat, feeling a numbness spreading through his chest,

How can she be missing?

Lowering his head, his mind raced to the events earlier. He could still recalled he had handed Emily over to John, one of the soldiers he personally trusted. And this was because John had been with him all these years in battle, through thick and thin.

He thought Emily would be protected while they were away.

‘’Where’s John?’’ He demanded immediately, clenching his jaws as he gradually simmered in rage.

John was dancing with death!

‘’ John? After we left the border, we haven’t seen him till now,’’ a heartbreaking response floated out instantly, and the atmosphere froze!

Without thinking, Kael hung the call, swaying slightly. At this moment, his face faded from his usual color, leaving his skin pale, and his composure faltered.

No! It can’t be!

He had never thought the person he helped many times would betrayed him out of the blue, without even suspecting anything.

This is hell!

It was at this moment, he felt an immense pressure creeping unto his body, which made all the hairs on his body to stand on end, but of course, he knew where the pressure was coming from.

James, who was impatient to have all informations about how his daughter had been kidnapped, wasn't expecting to hear something like this!

How can there be two trouble at the same time?!

His eyes hardened as rock, turning incredibly dark, and a muscle in face twitched.

" Did I entrust you to keep her safe, only for you to disappoint me?"

He demanded from Kyle who was about to lose his balance, any moment from now.

Kyle's head dropped downward, his chin hitting his chest, while the weight of his failure settled in his heart.

Crestfallen, he slapped his hands together and breathed out nervously, " My lord, I was deceived and betrayed. It's all my fault, and I will take all the blame. I have no excuse."

Thud!

Within a blink of an eye, he crashed his knees on the ground and quickly kow kow, snacking his forehead against the pavement.

An annoyed scoff escaped from James' lips, and he shifted his gaze away from Kyle.

This was the time to save his daughter before it was too late.

Time was really their enemy now, but another trouble just surfaced.

With a surge of frustration, James' jaws clenched, but he suppressed the immense pressure coming from him.

" Is the tracker still on her?"

Kyle swiftly snapped his head upward, his face brightening!

" Yes," he nodded actively, straightening himself.

How could he forgot about the tracker he had installed before leaving Emily in the room.

" Track her down!" James ordered, his voice dripping with an undeniable authority.

He took out his phone and made a call to the president of the country, which was answered within a second, " President Richard, I want to make a request as the god of war. Pause all activities entirely in every hospitals present in the city!"

" As you wish, General."

The president immediately coincided, out of respect, and the call quickly came to an end.

Then, he proceeded to walk away from the information center, saying, " We don't have much time."

Yes, he loved his daughter and would sacrificed anything for her, but Emily was also important, meaning the world to him.

He had to save the easier one first, while reserving his full energy for his daughter's case.

The car bumped over small particles of rocks on the dusty road, shaking the people inside. However, the driver didn't stop driving.

Emily, who sat quietly at the back seat with pursed lips, roamed her eyes across the car.

The car gave out a shabby view with worn out seat, cracked side mirrors , and a dry weird smell.

Her nose crinkled, taking in more of the unpleasant smell. She coughed out a bit, frowning but said nothing.

At this moment, she noticed the car was approaching a forest from the wing mirror, which was quite odd.

Glancing at the person in the driver seat, who was the soldier from earlier, she questioned with uncertainty, " Aren't we heading to meet my daughter and husband? Why are we approaching the forest?"'

" This is what I was instructed to do. Captain Kael told me this is the safest route to take, in order to avoid the enemies coming after us," the soldier responded in a witty manner, focusing on the drive.

He was none other John, Kael's most trusted friend.

" Oh."

Emily withdrew her gaze and nodded slowly.

Although, the answer was convincing, but for a strange reason, she couldn't shake off the suspicion in her heart.

" Is everything okay?"

John narrowed his eyes at the rear seat mirror, watching Emily's expression..

" Do you need something to eat? There's still a long journey ahead. You might want to take a rest."

He offered, curling his lips.

However, Emily was too alert to agree with all that.

Calmly, she refused, shaking her hands, " No, I am okay. You don't have to bother."

Although, her tone was trembling subtly, she still managed to maintain a relaxed image to the soldier.

It would be bad to reveal her panic to John, especially since she had no idea about his motive.

Despite her pretense, John saw through her.

Creak!

He pressed his leg on the brake, putting the car to an halt by a corner.

Getting out of the car, he strolled to the back seat, opening the car door and stepped in.

He sat close to Emily, facing her with an obscene expression and ran his tongue over his teeth.

This made Emily's face to pale, shifting slightly away from him, without looking at the man.

" Why don't I have a taste of you instead? I mean it's not fair to take a beauty away without feeling her, right?"

John leaned closer to Emily, his eyes latching on her chest, and he licked his lower lip subconsciously.

This look depicted one of a hungry man, who couldn't be stopped.

" Shameless!"

Emily unexpectedly spat at John, contorting her delicate face with disgust! " I won't let you have your way on me!"

Now, she knew the man was a bad person, and her instinct wasn't wrong.

Pah!

A stinging sensation slashed across her face, overwhelming her, and her face instantly became crimson!

" Who do you think you are?!" John's hand gripped Emily's jaws, his fingers digging into her skin like he wanted to crush her bone!

" You will do everything I tell you to do!" He ordered her shamelessly, " Strip!"

The drive back to the Radcliffe estate was quiet. The weight of recent events lingered in the air, but for the first time in months, there was a sense of closure.James glanced at Emily in the passenger seat, her head resting against the window as she watched the trees blur past.In the backseat, Sarah was fast asleep, her small face finally free of worry.“This feels strange,” Emily said softly, breaking the silence.James glanced at her. “What does?”“Coming home. No Syndicate. No immediate danger. Just... life waiting for us.”James nodded, his grip on the wheel tightening slightly.“It’s what we’ve been fighting for.”Emily turned to him, a small smile on her lips.“I just hope we remember how to live it.”Later that evening, the team gathered at the estate’s main hall for what felt like the first peaceful meal in years. The atmosphere was warm, but there was an underlying current of finality.Kael raised his glass, smirking.“So, this is it, huh? No more bunkers, no more ambushes

Winter’s fingers flew over her keyboard, her screen filled with data streams and encrypted files. The room was dimly lit, the glow of monitors casting sharp shadows on her focused expression.James stood behind her, his arms crossed, tension radiating from him.“You’re sure about this?” James asked, his voice low but firm.Winter nodded, not taking her eyes off the screen.“Positive. These files weren’t just buried—they were hidden in layers of false leads. Whoever did this wanted to make sure no one found them, not even Zhao.”Kael leaned against the doorway, arms crossed.“And yet, here we are. What exactly are we looking at?”Winter tapped a key, bringing up a series of interconnected names, companies, and shell organizations.“The Syndicate isn’t just regrouping—they’re rebranding. New names, new players, same game.”James’s jaw tightened. “Led by who?”“That’s the kicker,” Winter said, spinning her chair to face them.“These files mention leadership figures Zhao didn’t even know

It’s safe.”Emily sighed, the weight of the past few days evident in her posture.“Safe, James, but not sustainable. We can’t keep uprooting our lives like this.”James met her gaze.“It’s temporary. Just until we figure out our next move.”Inside, the facility was stark but functional. Sarah clung to Emily’s hand, her eyes darting around the unfamiliar surroundings.“Is this where we’re going to live now?” Sarah asked softly, her voice tinged with worry.Emily knelt to her daughter’s level, brushing a strand of hair from her face.“J

The strike team moved with precision, navigating the dense jungle that surrounded the suspected Shadow Council hideout.Winter’s voice came through the comms, calm but focused.“You’re two clicks out,” she said.“The perimeter scans show minimal activity. If they’re there, they’re keeping a low profile.”James adjusted his headset, his eyes scanning the terrain.“Understood. Stay on the sensors. If anything moves, I want to know.”Kael, walking just behind him, let out a low whistle.“Too quiet. I don’t like it.”James nodded.“Neither do I.”The team reached the entrance to the bunker, its steel doors partially concealed by overgrown vines.Kael moved forward, placing a charge on the lock.“Ready to breach,” he said.James gave a quick nod.“Do it.”The explosion was sharp and contained, the doors swinging open to reveal a dimly lit corridor. The team entered cautiously, their weapons raised.Winter’s voice came through again.“You’re in. Be careful—this layout is identical to some o

  • CHAPTER 252

Winter’s workstation hummed with activity as lines of code scrolled across her screen. She leaned forward, her brow furrowed in concentration. On a nearby table lay the charred piece of paper Kael had recovered from The Widow’s lair.It was encoded, a complex cipher that had taken days to crack.Kael leaned against the wall, watching her work.“You’ve been at this for hours, Winter. Got anything?”Winter sighed, her fingers pausing over the keyboard.“Almost. Whoever wrote this wanted to make sure it stayed hidden. But they underestimated me.”James entered the room, his expression sharp.“What’s the status?”Winter pointed to the screen.“I’ve almost got it. The code is... odd. It’s deliberate, but there’s something about it that feels personal, like whoever wrote it wanted us to find it.”Kael raised an eyebrow.“Personal? From the Syndicate? Doesn’t exactly sound like their style.”Winter’s screen dinged softly, and she sat back, a faint smile of triumph crossing her face.“Got it.
