The first thing that settled in Jax's mind as they entered the Primordial Overseer's chamber was the possibility of failure. The frozen NPCs around the room reminded him exactly what it meant if the Primordial Overseer rewrote every NPC's code the moment the countdown hit zero. That was a risk they couldn't survive.

The system flashed. Jax checked the countdown.

The walk kept going for a long time. The entire team were exhausted, and the realisation that they were simply following a stranger sank into Jax's head all of a sudden."Everyone, stop."Mira groaned. She caught her breath and held her hand out to emphasise that she was still alive. The young NPC turned back and faced the group. "What happened?""Where are you taking us?""To the Watcher." He replied. Jax sped through the air, appearing in front of him within seconds. He stared into his eyes and read his data. That was the conflicting part. He did not look like he was lying. His heart rate was normal, and for free NPCs, they were just like Players. If they had something up their sleeves, Jax would sense it.This young NPC was rather harmless. But Jax could not just trust him based on that even if his instinct did not feel threatened."We can't just trust you. You're not telling us anything, and you want us to k

Everywhere the team went to ask, no one answered them. It was like the captain of the boat said, they do not speak the word anymore. Everyone turned them down before they could even further their questions, like the title was a plague that had destroyed this town. More so, they were worried about the story of this town, what it had come to suffer. When Jax scanned the place, all he could sense was people who had passed though a lot of torment and they were now but a shell of themselves. In the center of the town, it was like everyone was battling a sadness, and the air had been so thickened by it too. “This place is depressing." Orin mentioned. The group was silent because it was true. Mira and Eldric were still talking about it, trying not to agree with Orin when Jax caught the sight of two men approaching them. His breathe hardened, causing him to stand fierce and stared into their eyes. “You've been asking questions. Who

Mira did not say more. She merely watched as Jax stood up. He stretched and cracked his knuckles."As long as we are together, that's all that's necessary. We'll take the fight to who's earned it in due time."At the back of his mind, a part of him knew speaking with Alina again would save more stress. Having used System Sight to read the data of the current location, the place turned out to have been discarded. It meant the Substrates were not there anymore.Jax needed to update his mapping structure but he was being hard-headed.The next day, it was morning when the team set out. Jax and Mira continued their conversation on the liberation of NPCs, joyous at the news Orin received that morning from one of the NPCs back at the Old Ruins. They now had a new Watcher. Eldric could now be relieved of his duties and this new Watcher would protect them and keep them safe. They were also rebuilding the Old Ruins. And Eldric had left them one very important thing. A device that kept the Old R

Two Weeks LaterA stony path welcomed Jax with his back bent from the weight of a bag of potatoes he was carrying over his shoulder. He was under the heavy artificial sun that beamed with harsher radiation which made him to be drenched in his sweats. Then suddenly he paused. He sensed something. Jax activated System Sight and scanned the area. [THREE ENTITIES CONFIRMED. PROCEED WITH CAUTION]For a few seconds, he did not move. Before him was an old building and around him, he was surrounded by vines, grasses, and rotten wood scattered all over the floor. The area looked like one that had been abandoned long enough that nature had now taken over. Even the building that was before him was filled with vines and the sound of birds chirped from the distance.Towards the path he had been coming from, there was nothing but the pure silence of a long road. To either sides were tall bamboo trees."I can see you." He said as he straightened his back."Then, this is your end." A voice said as t

Jax appeared right in front of Author and touched his forehead. He reached into the data of Author and forced the files of his soldiers dying, their last moments, into his mind. Especially Kyle's.Author dropped to the floor and began to convulse. He grabbed his head as he tried to get it out of him.Jax focused back on the container and placed both hands on it. His health bar shook as the system stirred into him. His skin stretched to its maximum limit and his muscles constricted. The pain was like ice and fire merging and exploding inside him.He pressed his lips thin, trying to hold back the pain. But at some point, he couldn't hold it back and he yelled into the air.All those systems that Author had accumulated, from every player he had stolen them from, from every part of the game he had cheated on, Jax took it all. Everything entered into his body, systems upon systems, colliding into each other.Jax could not even recognise himself. All his senses mixed, fracturing into one pi

There were times when experience was all that was needed to learn new things. Each position the Glitch Overlord had found himself in was to build him. This much, he had come to trust in.Jax's arrival to the operational section of the facility opened his sight to what Author was building. The knowledge was differential to the actual sight.NPCs were submerged into cubes that were filled with fluid, bubbles emitting from the mask that was placed on their faces. Tubes were connected to them and overall, connected to a container that transferred the corrupted system into them. When Jax destroyed it, the cubes split and he turned around to face Author, the main culprit."This has gone beyond help, Author." Jax said and took a simple step forward. "I will not tell you this again.""I see you finally found me." He said, and Jax squinted his eyes.Scanning Author's data, Jax realised how far he would go just to achieve this maddening goal of his. He did not even ask about Kyle or any of the
