Mr. Endo spoke again. His voice was tired. "What do you want us to do?"

Kazuo walked back to his chair. He put his hands on the back of it.

"Go home," he said. "Make your calls. Reassure your investors. Tell them this is a conspiracy. Tell them we have the situation under control."

"And if they do not believe me?" Mrs. Fujiwara said.

"Then they can leave," Kazuo said. "And they can lose their money. And they can watch us rebuild without them."

Mrs. Yamamoto stood up. Her chair scraped against t

"Leave her alone," Hiroshi said. His voice was calm and quiet. The man laughed. "You think you can tell me what to do? Little man, fuck off!"Hiroshi looked at him. His eyes were cold."I said leave her alone. Yea?" Hiroshi twisted his wrist and the man screamed in agony. The man pulled his arm free and rubbed his wrist. His eyes were angry. But there was something else there. Something new. Fear."Who are you?" the man said."That doesn't matter. What matters is that you apologize to her. Right now."The man stared at him. His mouth opened. Then he closed it. He laughed again but it wasn't as loud this time."Apologize? To her?" He pointed at the waitress. "She owes me money. She's lucky I don't take more."Hiroshi didn't move."I won't ask again. Apologize."The man looked at him with his jaw tightened. Then he shook his head. "I'm not apologizing to her. She's nothing. She's nobody."He turned to walk away but Hiroshi grabbed him by the back of his collar and pulled him back. The ma

The New GameThe rain had stopped sometime during the night.Hiroshi woke to silence. Not the comfortable kind. The kind that pressed against his ears and made him aware of his own breathing. The room was bright already. Sunlight poured through the window like an accusation. He sat up slowly. His ribs ached slightly. The healing was faster in the daylight, but it wasn't instant. He reached for his phone and there was a message from Mika."I am alive. But I am not okay. I lost almost everything in the fire. Alot. My servers. My drives. My cat. I am staying with someone I trust. I do not have the physical strength to go into a war right now. I need time to recover. Please understand."His jaw tightened.Another message."In the meantime, do not do anything stupid. If you get yourself arrested, I cannot help you. Please. Just wait. The kuroda’s aren't going to come at you directly. Not yet though."He scrolled down."Some of the major files were not able to be retrieved. I am trying to r

The ringing would not stop.Hiroshi pressed his palms against his temples and closed his eyes. His head was pounding. It wasn't coming from the drink because he had not touched a drop since then. It was coming from the fight either. The healing had already closed most of his wounds. This had happened before. It was like someone was trying to reach him through his thoughts. That was when he heard a voice."Hmmm. Hiroshi. Why do you waste your gift?"Hiroshi's eyes snapped open. He looked around the room. It was empty. He was alone but he was sure he heard a voice. He shook his head. He pressed his palms harder against his temples."Great," he muttered. "Now I am hearing things.""You are not hearing things."The voice was calm and clear. It was not in the room. It was in his head. Not like the System. The System was cold. Mechanical. This voice was warm and human. Almost amused."Calm down. You are perfectly fine."Hiroshi stood up from the bed. His heart was pounding and his hands wer

The station was quiet at four in the morning.Mori sat at his desk. The overhead light was off. Only the small lamp beside his keyboard was on. It cast a yellow circle over the papers in front of him.He was tired. Not the kind of tiredness that sleep could fix. The kind that sat in his bones for twenty years and never left. His eyes were heavy. His back ached. His coffee had gone cold hours ago. Today was unusually quiet. He was reading a report. There was a break-in at a warehouse on the east side. Nothing unusual. Nothing that would make the news. But something about it bothered him. The address was familiar. He had seen it before. He brought out a pen from his pocket. He wrote the address on a sticky note. His handwriting was messy. His hand was not as steady as it used to be. He put the note in his coat."You are still here?"Mori looked up. Officer Daisuke was standing by the coffee machine in his office. His hair was messy. He looked like he had just woken up from a nap in the

Hiroshi was in front of his apartment barely five minutes later. His sonic speed was clearly still active in the daytime. He opened the door and Hana was standing in the middle of the living room. Her hands were clasped together in front of her. Her face was pale. Her eyes were red. She had been crying. Hiroshi took a few steps further."Hiroshi," she said with a small and broken voice. He stopped. His jaw tightened and his hands curled into fists."What are you doing here?" he said firmly."I have come to see you." She stepped toward him. She raised her hands trying to touch his face. "I had to…""Don't." He stepped back. His voice was cold and flat. "You shouldn't be here. We have nothing to discuss.""I know." Her hand dropped to her side. "I know I shouldn't be here. But I am miserable, Hiroshi. I can't think properly. My heart is heavy. Please. Just let me…""You need to leave. Now.""Hiroshi, please." She said with a cracked voice. "I came to apologize. I came to tell you that…"
