Chapter 001

“Mr. Lamar, hurry up, you're free to leave, be careful not to commit any crime again.” one of the police officers warned, As he was opening the gate of Lamar's cell, he was the only officer who had shown him love while he was in prison.

Lamar came out of his cell and walked down to the captain’s office where he needed to sign and do the paperwork for his release.

The office was covered with awards and frames hanging on the wall. The entire environment looked serious and strict. It was an old-looking office, and the captain seemed corrupt.

Lamar stood while everyone else sat. They considered him too poor to sit with them. He signed the papers quietly. Then, the captain looked at him and said, "Hey, you better behave. If not, you'll end up back here in jail." Lamar was shocked. He knew he didn't do anything wrong. "Sir, I'm innocent," he started to say, but the captain cut him off. "Say another word, and you'll remain here," he warned sharply.

The precinct was popularly known for its corrupt practices. They say the officers take money from rich folks and treat poor folks unfairly, especially the captain. They arrest poor people for no reason and let the rich get away with things.

Lamar didn't want any more problems. All he wanted was to leave the precinct and go home. Finally, they let him go.

He couldn't believe he spent three years in jail for a crime he didn't commit—stealing gold worth billions of dollars. How could he steal something so valuable and still be poor? That's what Lamar kept asking himself.

He walked out of the gates and took a deep breath. At first glance, he looked malnourished with a depressing air surrounding him, he didn't know how and where to start as nobody came to take him home.

The entire environment looked off and he didn't wish to come back. “It's good to be free, another chance to prove myself,” Lamar uttered and brushed his head as he began to walk slowly on the lonely road.

Cars passed Lamar, some poured dust on him, and others cursed him to clear off the road. Lamar was surprised to see people treat him the way they treated him. He didn't know if it was from his dirty worn-out clothes or they just hated him. He was being treated like a virus everyone needed to keep their distance from.

After walking for what seemed like one hour, he finally arrived at the Taylor’s Mansion. A very majestic high two-story building but the number of times he set foot into the beautiful part of the mansion could be counted within a twinkling of an eye. As the son-in-law of Taylor’s house, he spends most of his time in the old cabin.

Looking at the once-familiar building, Lamar felt a twinge of pain in his heart. Once he stood in front of this building, full of wishes, thinking they could treat him well this time so he could finally leave his sad past and start a new life.

But he thought wrong. Turns out there was a bigger surprise waiting for him. As Lamar walked in,

“Whoa, what is happening here? He exclaimed. His wife, Victoria was having an intimate moment with another man, one of the richest and famous men in the country. Mr. Jasper Williams. “W…what’s happening here?” Lamar asked, stammering.

“Lamar, get the hell out of here, you poor dirty pig!” Victoria yelled.

Lamar was dumbfounded, and couldn't believe that his wife could cheat on him. No wonder she never came to visit him in prison. He had been through a lot already and all Victoria could do was cheat on him.

The worst part is that she wasn't remorseful about it. Tears flowed down from Lamar’s eyes as he questioned her.

“Victoria? What are you doing? Don't you have respect for our marriage? Our bed?” Lamar grabbed Victoria’s right hand.

“Let go of me, you cursed bastard! Let me go before your poverty-stricken rubs on me.” Victoria screamed as she pushed Lamar away from her.

Her voice was too loud enough to bring down the rooftop. Mr. Jasper Williams arranged his well-tailored elegant black suit while observing Lamar.

Although Lamar was more handsome than him, his features were hot. He carefully styled his short brown hair and wiped off his oily face.

When he was done arranging himself, Jasper placed both of his hands on his side pockets, gazed into Lamar’s eyes, and scoffed.

“The nerve to stand in my present to utter nonsense. How dare you? Do you know who I am?” Jasper pouted, his voice loud and stern.

Victoria walked majestically to where Jasper was standing, she tried to calm him down. Victoria placed a hand on Jasper’s chest, and with a sheepish smile, she said “Don't waste your anger on this low life. It's just a waste of energy.”

Victoria’s words and mysterious grin interrupted Lamar’s weird thought. He was just wishing that he had a supernatural power to punish them for all the pain they caused him.

Lamar was more hurt seeing Victoria holding Jasper in a romantic way. He had never experienced it with her before. Although Victoria and Jasper looked good together, they looked like a dream couple. Since they are both from the same social class. But Lamar felt jealous and pained.

“Ahhhh!” Lamar screamed. This isn't happening to him. He fell to his knees and held his head with his eyes closed. Anguish filled his mind.

He was just a poor orphan waiter trying to survive. He didn't plan to end up as the son-in-law of the Taylors house. They chose him for their selfish gain, to gain a million-dollar contract while he wanted a shelter and a home he never had. Now, his life has been a mess. They treated him however they wished, just like a piece of trash.

As Lamar was still in his sober moment, footsteps were heard, and Mr. Andrew Taylor, his father-in-law came into view. He surveyed the room and Lamar who was on the floor sobbing.
