He walked to the mansion, thinking things might change tonight. That grandmother will start looking at him the way her husband used to look at him. Even if it brings a bit impact, that will be okay with him.

But that was all nothing but helpless hopes. He walked into the mansion, and for sure, people had left. But the places were messed. Wine grasses everywhere you look on the table and wine bottles. Plates of food and all kinds of things that needed to be cleaned.

He sighed as he walked where everyone stood around grandmother. Giving her their second presents. He walked with his little box behind.

Then he stopped as everyone notices him. Moving aside for grandmother to look at him. He smiled at the woman, but she was just glaring at him.

“I. G-got you a-something,” he stammered as he walked closer. All of them looking at him like he was food that just arrived at the table but you didn’t order it.

“What could you possibly get that will match to what I got her or what others here got for her,” a man of Trevor’s age spoke.

He wore an expensive-looking suit like all the males. And he was Mubanga’s husband. The second to Eliza.

They all talked amongst themselves. Agreeing to what he just said.

And for sure, he saw boxes with expensive labels on them. Some I could say a drawing on necklaces and all kinds of expensive accessories. She was even putting on a gold necklace that one of them probably got for her.

“Trevor, we don’t have all night. And the house is waiting for you. Unlike you, we all have to wake up early to go work and bring food to feed you,” the mother to Eliza spoke.

Agreeing to be a leave in son-in-law was turning out to be bad for him. But again, because of his wife, he had to stay and try to tame the family. To get them to like him. Or at least look at him a bit differently.

He walked closer and handed his box to grandmother. She hesitated a bit and then got it, like some filthy thing that will give her infections or something bad.

She opened it and took out a locket. She looked at him and threw the locket at him.

“How dare you disgrace my husband? Did you think this will make me like you because it looks thoughtful in your stupid eyes? That is some cheep necklace and you put my face and my husband in that thing. You better get out of my sight,” she spat.

He took the necklace and put it in his pocket. It was the only thing that Mr. Noah left for him before the man actually kicked the bucket. And he thought it would help him in any way. But once again, his efforts were not appreciated.

“You heard her, get out of here. I can’t believe grandfather forced my sister to marry you low life loser. Get your filthy body out of our sight,” Eliza’s elder brother spoke and pushed him away.

They lifted him and threw him away from them. “Just clean. That is what you are good at. Stupid boy,” the other brother spoke, and they walked back to everyone.

He saw them laugh as they carried on presenting their expensive things to grandmother.

After a while, they all left for their rooms, and he was left cleaning the house. Making sure it is spotless. No dirty or he will get it in the morning. Each day was worse than the last.

He felt like giving up on life. He tried attempting suicide many times. But each time he remembered what Mr. Noah used to tell him. There is always a silver lining.

“I don’t see that sir,” he looked at the picture of the old man on the wall. “Why did you allow me to marry into this family? Why did you even take me in? You should have left me in the streets. At least there, no one treated me this bad. But now I’m tied here because you married me to your granddaughter. I can’t just leave her,” he spoke as he looked at the old man smiling back at him.

He wiped a tear away as he took out the locket. “You told me this will change my life. But look where I’m. It hasn’t done anything. I just got humiliated even more,” he cried.

Then, as he heard someone walked downstairs, he walked away from the picture and carried on cleaning. Taking all the tables all by himself to the garage. Sweeping and watching the dishes.

“You serious thought the locket was going to make her happy? Trevor, I Pit you sometimes. I don’t even know why you are still here,” Eliza spoke as she walked to get water into the freezer.

I turned to her. She was now in her nightdress.

“Because if you Eliza. I can’t leave here without you. You are my wife and I will do anything for you. Even staying here and doing all the work. I will do it,” he spoke. If only she treated him a bit better than others. Supported him in some way.

“Keep dreaming. Grandfather forced me. I never liked you and I will never love you. Now just leave this place for your own good,” she told him and left the kitchen.

He doesn’t even know why he was still holding on to that grimmer of hope. Why, he still thought she would love him. Because she has proved time and time again that she doesn’t care about him.

But he was still willing to endure everything. Because Mr. Noah told him they never give up on family. But he told him many things and look where he was now.

He sighed as he finally finished everything. His eyes feeling shut and his body feeling like a huge rock has struck him.

He went to his bed and just slept. Trying to forget about tonight. Looking at the locket and why Mr. Noah thought it will change his life.

She clenched on the floor as she held his head. A blood smile stretched across his face. But she cried even more. How and why was this happening to her and her family? She nearly lost him back then and now she might lose him for good.“It will be fine. Just hang in there,” she said, pressing her hands on the gun wound. Moses stood eyes wide open a few feet away. He looked scared, worried. Mubanga didn’t look any better. She didn’t want any of this. Yes, she wanted to get that freedom she thought she needed. But she didn’t want anyone to die. Not like this. Abigail was the only one looking better. She didn’t seem to be too surprised or as worried as the two. She actually looked relieved. “Eliza…” “Don’t even say anything Moses,” she snapped, looking at him. “You know he would have helped you with whatever you needed if you just talked to him right? Was this really necessary? You could have come and talked to me. Now you have killed our brother and look at my husband. I will make s

Moses was pacing around the living room. His wife sat on the couch with her hands on the sides of her temple—her gun in hand. She looked scared, worried. Could it be that she was guilty about shooting Mateo? But she was heartless, at least that was what Trevor and Eliza thought. Trevor was soothing Eliza as she cried, looking at the body of her brother on the floor. What would she tell her mother and grandmother? What would they even think about her and Trevor now? They already don’t like him, and now this. “Eliza, we will be fine. I won’t let anything happen to you and the baby. I have to die for that to happen…”“Don’t say that,” she looked up at him. “I can’t lose you, too. I won’t lose you as well, Trevor. There is no way I will raise this child alone.”He forced a smile, “I won’t die. We will be fine.”There was silence as he thought about what he was doing. What if his plan fails? What then? He couldn’t risk Moses finding out about what he was doing. Messing up again was nev

They both went running to the living room. And then hit a stop after seeing Mateo on the floor. “Trevor!” Eliza screamed and rushed to hug Trevor. “Mateo! What will I tell our mother? What will I tell his wife and kids?” She cried on his shoulder. He just soothed her as he looked at the blood on the floor. Mateo was gone. Just like that. This was more serious than he imagined. Whatever he thought this was just changed after this. And the next body could be Eliza’s or his if he didn’t play his cards nicely. He needed to think of a better plan to get out of this one. “What happened? I thought you said no killings. Why would you kill Mateo? He is your brother, for God’s sake. Why would you ask your psychopath wife to shoot him?” He snapped, walking to stand a few feet from Moses. “Moses, listen. We talked about this. I was going to do whatever you wanted me to do. And then you were going to leave me and my family the hell alone. But so much for that.”There was silence, Moses looked

His heart was pounding. How did he allow this to happen? Why was this happening? And who the hell was the woman with Alexander? Alexander gestured for them to take their seats. Because he had a gun, it wasn’t like there was a lot they could have done. They just followed suit and took their seats. Eliza held on to Trevor’s harm. This was not happening to her again. As much as she was trying to be strong and not thinking about what happened, it still did, and the thought of it happening again didn’t sound okay with her. She looked at Trevor, and he just smiled, silently telling her it was going to be okay. “Listen man, whatever you need I can…”He scoffed, “you can’t give me crap Trevor. And if I listen to you saying you will do the same thing you did. I didn’t want to do this. I asked you nicely to give me what rightfully belonged to me. But what did you guys do? You played me and my wife like a fool.”“Wife?” They all gasped. “Yes, wife. You thought I wasn’t married. I told you e

  • CHAPTER 80

The next morning, he woke up and found Eliza wasn’t in bed. And suddenly his heart skipped. He jumped and rushed out of the bedroom, shouting her name. When he couldn’t find her inside, he rushed outside the house. Shouting and hoping she was still alive. How could he allow her to be kidnapped again? How could she have been kidnapped again? And by how? Could have Alexander managed to enter the house and take her? He went around the house, and there was no sign of her. After a while of searching, he went inside the house, got his phone and called her. Luckily, she picked up.“Trevor. Morning,” she answered from the other side. “Where are you? Are you okay?” He demanded, his breath shallow. “I’m at a supermarket. I wanted to get a few things. We were running out of supplies. What is the matter?”“You left without telling me. I got worried. After what happened, I don’t think you should be walking outside alone. You should have woken me up, Eliza. What if Alexander was waiting for y

  • CHAPTER 79

The room was eerily quiet, his friends didn’t look as anxious as he did though. They knew what was happening and what his board members were going to say. Could they have been thinking of throwing him off the company? He was the one with the most shares, but what if they voted him out? What then? “So here is the thing,” the woman began. “We are old as you can see,” they all laughed except him. “And we can’t keep doing this anymore. We have done our part, and it’s now time for new people to take it up. Right Eliza?” She looked at his wife who just tightened her grip on Trevor’s arm, but nodded. “We, as the board, you excluded, have decided to leave the company.”His heart sank. “What do you mean by leaving the company? You know I can’t run it without you guys. The only reason it has been able to stand for all these years is because you guys have been there. You can’t do this to me.” He demanded, and before he knew it, he was pacing. “You need to revisit that plan of yours. I can’t and
